Thank you so much, I am a 11 year old who just started crocheting last year, took a 5 month break, but recently started getting back into it. I’ve tried another granny square tutorial but the middle would come out uneven, this tutorial gave me one of the most flattest, and perfect granny square I’ve made in my life. Thank you so much ! 🫶
You are a GENIUS woman! Where have you been all my yarning life?! I wanna take a minute to thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ I've wasted so much time trying to perfect my Granny squares, and no matter what videos I've watched, or channels I've followed have helped much. THIS IS AMAZING INFORMATION and I'm so glad I found you. You mention, in one of your videos, the video took you forever to edit and get it just right. I'd like to thank you so very much for the time and effort you put into this, for those of us out here struggling w some string! 😊❤

I am a "hoker"😂 and TH-camr- in Spanish- looking for a granny square, I choose yours because it is very short. I am amazed by the way you explained every single detail. Thank you. I would definitely recommend you on my channel. I'm making matching tops for my daughter and granddaughter with this beautiful granny. Thank you. Sending you love and light ❤️
I think this is the best tutorial I've come across as a begginer with granny squares, I wanted to fix an old bed cover for a while and the pattern is the same!
I've been making granny squares for a few years but was looking for an easy tutorial for my 12 year old daughter. In the end, my granny squares look much neater. Learning about using a smaller hook really made a big difference. Thanks for the great tutorial!
I am so glad I found your channel. For over 50 years I have knitted and/or crochet . I love the look of granny squares but I have always really disliked doing them. Everything about the process would frustrate me. After watching this video and a couple others or yours, I am eager to tackle the once dreaded granny square. Thank you so much for sharing.
OMG I tried to learn Granny squares from a Magic Cabin booklet when I was like 10 and I could not figure it out. I tried so many times over many years. Eventually I gave up, even though I have made amigurumi and many other projects. Now you have taught me in under 10 minutes. Thank you!
wow!! thank you so much, im an 11 year old girl who loves to crochet, but my granny squares always end up looking uneven or lopsided. the ‘slip stitching in the chain space’ tip helped so much! this video was so informative, i subscribed and saved this video to all my playlists!
Outstanding! Learned to crochet some 70 years ago to stay out of my grandmother’s hair. You just shared the greatest secret to grannies! Thank you so much🙏🏻
this has been unbelievably helpful to me, as a complete beginner. Thank you for wonderful video and I greatly appreciate the written parts which really reinforce the instructions. I've copied them into my own helpful notes . (which of course are your notes!) Your voice is soft and encouraging and easy for a brit to understand ! It has saved me many "arrrrggghhhs" at this end.
I have been learning the granny square for about a month now and with this tutorial I finally created a clean and uniform square! Thanks so much for the tips in this video. I am a beginner still but with this tips I got a boost to continue crocheting! ❤
when crocheting granny squares with different colours for each round, i like to weave in the tails while i go so i don’t need to at the end. This tip saved me so much time so if you hate weaving in ends, it’s a good idea to work the tail in while crocheting around the square. Hope this helps 🩷.
This video changed everything for me! I’ve struggled with granny squares before viewing your tips. Now I’m crocheting a pile of beautiful squares that all look the same, no wonky looking squares. Thank you for sharing these tips.
I just started learning to crotchet in my old age yesterday. I 😂wasn’t really getting the hang of it and all my tries were twisted and lopsided… and then I found this video and I just completed a near perfect granny square!! Thank yewwwww!!!🎉
thank you because of your tips i was finally able to make a granny square for the first time. i didn't come out perfectly but that's okay. it will get better with time and practice.
I found this video a little hard to understand as I am a beginner crocheter. I understand the terninology but the hook was moving too quicky for me to understand what was happening. I'm sure this would be good for an intermediate crocheter!
THANK YOU, you are the 3rd tutorial I followed, as each of the previous tutorials resulted in frogging before I got to round 4 as I was NOT happy with how it was looking (heh, perfectionist? queen of frogging?). The tips you shared really make a difference! You have a new, happy subscriber 😆😆😆
So glad I found this. I haven't done granny squares in forever so I needed a refresher. Best looking one I think I've ever made. I'm crocheting over the ends as I go so no weaving!
Thanks for a great tutorial. You can make it easier to work into the starting circle by using what they call a magic circle. You make this the same way you make your starting stitch except you have the tail and the ball of yarn on opposite sides. This means when you’ve finished working the first round you simply tighten the circle by pulling on the tail end until the circle is as tight as you want it. I didn’t know about this until recently because all my favourite patterns from around the 60s (using Coats Mercer crochet cotton rather than wool) started the way you showed us. Crochet is actually a form of lacemaking and isn’t it nice that they can’t make a machine the way they did with bobbin lace making? You can find fancy ways to make this circle but I do it with my fingers because that’s how I make my first stitch.
Hey I love how you give the instructions, it's very clear. Also, I've been following some granny square pattern guide and I think your pattern is the easiest and ✨PERFECT✨ Now I have tidy and tight granny yet it makes perfect square shape even without blocking technique
Great info Brittany. Details are always welcome in a tutorial! Thank you! One question, when you eliminate the extra chain between sections, do you find it "stretches" your connecting stitch and it isn't as smooth, or is it just me? This would apply anytime you have to jump a long way between stitches. Thanks.😊
Such a wonderful and easy to understand tutorial! I've made lots of granny squares in the past, but none with such great tips as the ones you've taken time to research and provide to others! Thank you!
The tips about the basic foundation & how much they increase each round, and _especially_ how to correct the "lean" are game changers! Thanks so much!! It'd be great though if you could dial back the muzak & keyboard typing sound effects - they recreate the unpleasant feeling of being hold with a utility company lol. I know most people can tune out the background, but many of us can't , and it makes it much harder to focus & learn!
Excellent tutorial, as always! Nothing like a good, basic granny; and especially made better with these updated techniques. So happy to see them making such a big comeback. 💗
This was fantastic! I had no idea that following certain tips could lead to a consistent result each time, this has made making granny squares feel a lot less demoralizing hahaha thank you!
Genius! Thank you so much! My squares look so much better now. 😊 Excellent explanation and narration; and thank you for including written directions. (They may need to be edited tho; the written pattern says chain 5 at the start of each row nstead of 4. )😊
So you were one of the first video tutorial makers I learned to crochet with several years ago. Can I just say, your video editing quality is so much improved! Though I still get made fun of by my teen and 20 something kids and my brother that dad has a "crochet bag"! 😆😆
The tutorial was really good, it helpful and informative for me as a beginner and I love my granny square! It’s super cute and nice I used white purple and black and it turned out beautiful!! Tysm so muchhh it was really fun to make and easy
Thank you soo much for this tutorial! I’ve never been very happy with my granny squares; I always thought they looked kinda wonky. Now that I’m using your method, they look pretty much perfect! 😁
What fabulous tips, thanks for sharing, learning something new everyday 😅been crocheting for almost 60years I still think there is so much more to learn, love you 🙌🙌❤️🙏🏻

Great tutorial, and nice content here and on your blog👍. Just wondering…your blog instructions say to start every row with a chain 5. Is there a difference between the beginning round starting off with a chain 4 as demonstrated here as a chain 5 on the blog? .🤔. I am diving into the granny squares and just curious.
If you go to the settings on the video you can slow down the playback. No matter how fast the creator records☺️! I find it very useful, specially on intricate patterns. ❤
Hi Brittany. Great tutorial! The only thing I sometimes do different depending on the style of square I’m doing is flipping the square after every round. It makes a big difference for me. I see you covered this technique in your article! Great read! Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a wonderful 4th of July!❤
Great tutorial and I love the tips. Suggestion please. Could the camera be closer?. I find it so helpful when I can clearly see what's being done. Really enjoy your tutorials. Thank you.
Great tutorial as I am looking to improve. I am interested in the starting corner with a chain 4 and 3 doubles. How does this work if you wish to do a continuous granny square in one colour?
I wondered the same thing. I crocheted mine continuously. At the end of each round, after my slip stitch, I chained 4 and continued on. It didn’t come out lopsided. Sorry, please don’t be offended by my answer. I just noticed your question was unanswered.
Thanks for all the tips. I have one question. I am using variegated yarn and wish to continue each row without changing yarn. How would you recommend I do that?
not doing the single chains in between the clusters on the sides makes my square incredibly bowl-shaped, but i absolutely love the 4chain sl st into chain space method!
Hi thank you for all the great tips. Just wondering though when you talk about the "lean" and being able to combat that somewhat when changing colours but is there a way to stop it from happening if you are sticking with the same colour throughout please thanks so much ❤
Great tips thanks never too old to learn I’m 78:and crocheting since 12 yrs of age.😊😊
Omg! I love you so so much just by your comment you remind me of my great grand mother she died with a healthy life 😢😢😢❤❤❤
That is insane! Im 11 right now and my mother taught me to crochet when i was 8, but im more actively crocheting since i was 10!
I’m 71 yrs and taught by my grandma at the same age. 😂
Complimenti
12 and just started to crochet🤭

Slip stitching into the corner space rather than the starting chain has absolutely blown my mind 😲 Thanks for sharing!

Do you have any links or tutorials for that? Does that mean we just weave it and no ties or knots are needed?
This is exactly what I do so all I have to do at the end is snip the extra yarn. No weaving.

Hi I’m a 13 year old girl that has been crocheting since 8
Thanks for the tutorial
I absolutely love the colours of these squares. I’d love to see the completed blanket and what you did with the borders to bring it all together.

You can change the playback speed by pressing the little gear button, to slow down the video 😁
And for the far away problem, you can zoom in :D
You can’t ZOOM in on a tv screen!

This is the best tutorial I have ever watched for teaching how to do a granny square. Thank you 💗
Ty so much I can GRANNY SQUARE tried for months now got hope
I love granny squares. I just don't like changing yarn that much. These are really pretty.
I don't like changing yarn either. I am using variegated yarn on my squares, so no changing colors. And it looks great.

THIS IS THE BEST TUTORIAL I HAVE EVER SEEN THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!🤩🤩
Wow, thanks! 💙
This is great basic knowledge of the granny square. Very clear and logically presented. Thank you.

Is this a good project for a beginner who has never finished a project yet because my minds blow how great they look but not sure if Ill struggle 💕
Love how this turned out. Think I could get the hang of it, but first I need to re-learn the basics. 🤣
As a beginner, I found using 4 DCs instead of 3 in the rows makes it look more full 😊❤ (still 3 in the corners)
slip knot ch 3 slip st into first ch
ch 4 3 dc in center ch2 3dc ch2 3dc 2ch 2dc in center then slip st
opposite corner ch4 3dc
3dc ch2 3dc
begins with ch4 and 3 dc in ch2 space and ends with 2dc and slst to ch-4 space
ch4 3dc
side edge 3d
1. EVERY ROUND
STARTS THE SAME.
2. EACH SIDE GROWS BY ONE CLUSTER OF DC'S EACH ROUND.
3. THE CORNERS ARE WORKED THE SAME.
4. THE FINAL CORNER IS COMPLETED
WITH TWO DC AND A SLST IN THE CHAIN SPACE.
5. THE ONLY THING THAT CHANGES FROM ONE ROUND TO THE NEXT IS THE NUMBER OF CLUSTERS
BETWEEN THE CORNERS.
Thank god for you
WHERE IS THE MIDDLE OF THE CIRCLE???😭😭😭
Heyy! I ran into the same problem as you, so I made 4 chains instead of 3 to make the ring, and the ring was pretty easy to locate! It doesn’t alter the pattern in any way too :)

May I ask what are the yarns and colors you are using in this video? The color combination is so pretty!
this was so helpful! thank you so much! I started crocheting around a year ago and your video has been the most helpful one, again thank you so much.
What should I do to avoid granny lean if I’m NOT planning on switching colors every round? Love your video!
