This is one of the blessings of TH-cam. Just a simple video about a question I've always had but been too embarrassed to ask. I see persimmons in the grocery store (especially if I'm at an Asian store) but I've never known how to eat them. Now I feel comfortable buying one and trying it out. I understand they're particularly nutritious. :)
😓phew watched this just in time I bought three today and wasn't sure if I should eat them. I gave them a squeeze and they're hard as a rock! Thanks for this video 🙂
Thank you Margaret, known as persimmon in the states, as pérsimo in mexico but in spain they're known as caqui/kaki. And now I know there are two kinds, the astringent and the sweet, thank you for the COOL Share and greetings from Querétaro, Mexico. :)
I got a few of the type you called fuyu. my neighbor gave me them. They are mostly green. How long do they take to ripen off the tree? I'm glad you showed a type one as I would have cut one open and found it all green and inedible.
I thought i had bought the fuyu ones but got the other ones instead. I had not had a persimmon in over a year and was so excited that i bit in to one in the car. (was hard like the fuyu persimmon). It was awful and of course i didn't have anything in the car to wash my mouth out with.

Wish I watched this before trying to eat an unripe persimmon. Thought I was having a bad allergic reaction based on how my mouth felt.
I'm 51 and tried both for the first time today... LOVED THEM!!

Guys, just put your hachiya persimmon in a freezer for one night then thaw it & taste it, you'll love it - guaranteed!
LOVE LOVE LOVE persimmons! Over-ripe ones are like a really sweet goo.
Just bought these for the first time, looking forward to trying them, thanks for the info :)
So you can't eat the skin of the acorn-shaped ones (i have those)?
Do you eat the skin or no? I have one and I've never tried it before and want to make sure
I just ate one and my mouth does feel weird. The fruit tasted great.

Thank you Margaret Badore for the useful information. :)
Like the off-camera crunch at the end...
I have had some for two weeks and they aren't soft.
You have an incredibly beautiful voice
OMG I felt the opposite. So sloooooow and boring! This video could've been half the time!
+Julia Dee There's a magic button for you that speeds it to 2x. Though tbh 3x would be helpful.
Awesome. Thank you.
Very well done! Why would someone not like this video?

Thanks a lot, gonna eat my Hachiya like a boss now ;)
This lady’s voice is so nice :3
I was peeling leaves off of persimmons at the supermarket until the produce police came. 😕🍅
can you eat the skin??
I thought i had bought the fuyu ones but got the other ones instead. I had not had a persimmon in over a year and was so excited that i bit in to one in the car. (was hard like the fuyu persimmon). It was awful and of course i didn't have anything in the car to wash my mouth out with.
I found a persimmon tree in Garberville, California in someones front yard.
thank you!
Thank you!
Did you eat the skin on the fuyu ?
Yes, you can eat the skin.
I wish I could find this stuff in the us.
You have beautiful hands.
I was expecting to see lots of seeds. We must have a different variety here in South Carolina. Ours are much smaller, and packed full of seeds.
Scott Hansen Those are the wild American persimmons. The kinds you find in the store are the imported varieties 🙂
Thanks!
I prefer my persimmon something like 70% ripen. The perfectly ripe persimmon is too soggy for my taste.
You have beautiful hands :)
Thank u
Pls sent for me one
cool! Mahalo...
Delicious
So you can eat a persimmon skin on the sweet ones?
Yes!
I don't eat persimmon now because I found out it causes constipation
I have persimon and it's not that soft like yours but it tastes good, what you have looks like a sharon fruit to me.
How do you ripen an Astringent that have been harvested but not ready to eat?
Steve Utermahlen - I leave mine on the shelf for a few days . When you can squish it with your fingers slightly ,it's ready 😊
I would just let it sit at room temperature until it softens up.
Steve Utermahlen if u have harvested paddy... u can put it inside them to ripe it fast..
we do practice it in our country to ripe it faster...😊😊😊😊
Yeah the persimmon I am eating, did leave a furry taste. UUUGH
Why not just bite it like an apple? :p
ikr
I have persimons
Is the skin inedible?
Yuck! I just ate one that wasn't ripe at all. Saw it at the store and thought it looked sweet. Should have watched this before I ate it. Haha!
They are called Kaki and Sharon in German.
What, the ladies hands?
u should do asmr
success guaranteed
Oh my God your hands are beautiful I want to hold your hand
I dont know why my country called this fruit as banana kaki... doesnt look and taste like banana at all...
sweety
My persimmon is not ripe.....
2 minutes of blah blah blah... just show that they are ripe when you can easily press them @1:58
Get to the point! Yoir video is too long!
Omg I said the same thing. I was like come on! Because I want to know. There a family with a persimmon tree nearby.
I agree
