Went on an Alien binge watch before watching Romulus (yes even the AvP movies) now im playing the few Alien games I own, which is Isolation, Dark Decent, and technically Mortal Kombat X.
Alien Romulus has wayyyyy too much "hey, remember this?". It started really strong and then steadily goes downhill. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. Relies far too much on nostalgia instead of pushing things forward. Very similar to Halloween 2018 that way.
Only Randy Pitchford can successfully piss off everyone in a games development from the suits to the employees developing it to the customers to the entire industry and so on

I agree with all your criticisms of this game. Especially how punishing it can be. The aliens will tear you to pieces and the enemy soldiers will kill with a single shot if even a centimeter of you is exposed. It’s unbelievably difficult even on “easy”. That being said, I somehow enjoyed the game. I guess I was just excited to get a sequel to ALIENS.
I remember getting the collector's edition for $20 on amazon only a few months after it came out. As a teen who was a big alien fan, I enjoyed this game more than most. The multiplayer mode was actually really fun as well. Also apparently most of this game's development was outsourced to an inexperienced team, so gearbox didn't play as big of a part as it was advertised.
They stole the money to fund Borderlands 2 DLC. Sega didn't keep a eye on them during development so they couldn't win a embezzlement lawsuit against gearbox.
I remember hearing about the typo in the coding for the AI, that’s absolutely heartbreaking to the overworked devs that got shit on. Glad you addressed it
I think some things that were good about the game, where the attention to the film universe detail. Like finding Nute's doll, seeing Hudson cacconed. The other half of Bishop's body. And just the overall design of Hadley's hope. Not to mention being able to traverse the juggernaut. Those were the things I remember all these years later. That's just me though. Also just how hard beating the game on Ultimate Badass mode.
I'll be honest, the typo in the code thing is so hilariously accurate to what most coding bugs are. In fact, these are what causes most bugs in all software. Companies even hire entire teams to find them during the debugging process. The bugs that are harder to fix are the conflicting instructions ones, where 2 lines of code contradict, but only in extreme circumstances. Those require complete reworks of large amounts of code and are a pain in the ass.
some of these ideas were used in the much better game, aliens dark descent. Stuff like welding doors and using the powerloader. You should check that one out. It's excellent.
In fairness to this game, Hadleys Hope and all of the gear etc are really accurate to the movie, so it was obviously made by people who love the source material. The alien AI is the real problem. It just ruins any potential

It is important to install all Aliens Colonial Marines updates or patches so Aliens Colonial Marines works perfectly as possible. Then there is one other thing that was implemented by game developers that if a player desided to pirate copy Aliens Colonial Marines game did not get full AI functionalety or that weapon modifications was missing happened only to players that pirate copy Aliens Colonial Marines game so only way to get Aliens Colonial Marines to function properly is to buy a Aliens Colonial Marines as a original copy to get all game features with all updates and patches then Aliens Colonial Marines game works without any misshaps this is a real thruthful explanation to any watchers of this TH-cam channel video.

I love at one point, when everyone is standing after you've just landed.. you can glitch into bishop's character model and see his terrifying floating eyeballs from his perspective. Even his teeth. My first Alien encounter I glitched inside the Aliens character model, I was inside an Alien.. and what was with the dead marines..they all looked exactly the same, as if they were all brothers. That was creepy.

I was excited about this game after the initial cover story that Gameinforner did with the developers. It was originally suppose to be much more narrative driven and the door welding was going to be used in sections of the game where you would have to make a stand and barricade yourself into areas. They also hinted that while co-op. It was possible, that depending on the character you picked. You might not be able to finish the game because you would die in story. But of course that isn't what we got, lol.
Can't wait for you to try out the Alien vs. Predator game! Playing that as a kid was horrifying and so cool getting to play as the predator and the alien. So many fun hours were had with that game.
There's 1 good aspect of this game, and that's the "Bug Hunt" co-op alien wave shooter mode... but even that 1 good aspect IS BEHIND A FIFTEEN DOLLAR DLC PAYWALL!!!!
Honestly I had a good time with this game, going in while ignoring reviews from other people made things much better for me and my friends when we played through it
I wanna say the only time I ever encountered lack of ammo/ resources is when I used mods like templar's - which was good! I feel the vanilla game I was always just stacked and could always swap to another gun for more firepower till I got more of the other - great video though! I like CM (;
Story from what I recall is that Gearbox got their A-Team developers in-house and put together a kick ass demo which they used to secure funding from Sega. Then, once that was secured they then began to funnel the funds that were supposed to be solely for Colonial Marines to fund their other in house projects like Borderlands, but still contractually keeping to their agreement with Sega by still having their B/C-Teams making slow progress with the game. At a certain point Sega got fed up and held them to the fire asking "where is our game?" to which they then had to bring Timegate Studios, paid at a very low cost mind you, to finish the game which is the final product we all got to play in the end. But hey...at least we got some Borderlands games out of it :)
Cool video. I’m a new subscriber. I bought the collectors box a very long time ago now. It was on Amazon on sale for $20. I heard so many bad things at the time regarding this game. I thought the collectable in the box was descent enough for the $20.
Where the campaign falls apart I think the multiplayer shines honestly, having intelligent Xenos that fight properly was always very fun, though the balance was definitely all over the place in some modes.
Ah, yes, the very last Gearbox game I ever wasted money on. The moment that I realized that they were fully incapable of making anything that wasn't a Borderlands game.
@@saintfayde4438 yeeeeaaaahhhh,.... I've had difficulty getting into borderlands. If you give 3,000,000,000 weapons, or whatever the fuck it is, I'm not going to like any of em. Those games are pretty close to seeming like a waste of time for me. I like substance in games
I played this game and completed it on PC back when it was released, game wasnt perfect but as a fan of the films i still enjoyed it. I wonder if my copy had been patched as i remember thinking it felt like everyone was making a big deal about nothing at the time and were just jumping on bandwagons.
@RetroRebound you're forgetting about Ripley's custom rifle that you could get as a dlc weapon for Colonial Marines Pre-ordered this game way back in the day and that was the iconic weapon you got on the 360 version (not sure if you got it with the PS3 or PC versions as well, but then again this was over a decade ago, lol)
Please do Alien Vs Predator it was my first game on ps3 and holds a special place in my heart I still go back to it to this year and think it’s a fun time
I still have the Xbox magazine that first showcased this game YEARS before it came out. I dont remember what year it was, probably 2008 or 2009. I remember looking at those pages all the time, eagerly waiting for its release, until... we stopped hearing about it, and then years later it finally came out, and thankfully my hype had completely died down by then, so I wasn't too upset when I heard it was terrible. Update: it was the April 2008 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine - 5 years before it released. Looking at that magazine cover genuinely brings back memories. Anyway it's quite an interesting read, knowing what happened to the game
Maddie if you are disappointed in this game and the features like using the radar to do stealth and Welding doors to keep aliens out, then you should definitely try aliens dark descent. It has all of that stuff in it you're actually trying to sneak by the aliens or get the jump on them and you can well doors shut to keep your people safe while you heal up or rest to try to lower the stress levels and it is so freaking cool you're more controlling a squad than having it be a first person shooter

There's 1 good aspect of this game, and that's the "Bug Hunt" co-op alien wave shooter mode... but even that 1 good aspect IS BEHIND A FIFTEEN DOLLAR DLC PAYWALL!!!!
Honestly I had a good time with this game, going in while ignoring reviews from other people made things much better for me and my friends when we played through it
Alien Isolation and Aliens Dark Descent did the trick for me
I think this is an excellent game. Not perfect, but really captures the atmosphere of Aliens and is good fun to play.
YES the alien isolation review is one I look forward to a ton. I’ve played it so much
I honestly love the multiplayer and customisation of the aliens
Fireteam elite has actually gotten a ton of support for years and is amazing and people are still playing.
Alien vs Predator 2 is one of the most underrated games ever
I wanna say the only time I ever encountered lack of ammo/ resources is when I used mods like templar's - which was good! I feel the vanilla game I was always just stacked and could always swap to another gun for more firepower till I got more of the other
- great video though! I like CM (;
We appreciate your suffering for our entertainment
God I remember the fake trailer that they released, god I can not describe how disappointed I was as a kid when the game came out.
Borderlands 2 is garbage.
3:11 "I never seen the movies anyway."
😲😲😲😲😲
BLASPHEMY!!!
AVP 2010 for forever top Aliens Colonial Marines in Atmosphere, Gameplay, Graphics .
“Somehow they let us make a shitty alien game” so fucking hilarious in hindsight
A developer like Teyon should make another Aliens FPS.
You should do a video on alien isolation matty
Listen to the vid he said it will come in october
about fireteam elite! I feel like we got jipped on an Alien Queen firefight. What we got instead was just....not it.. :/
If I remember correctly, this game started the whole gamergate incident.
"How bad can colonial marines really be?"
My mind having traumatic flashbacks to 2013......
Ah, yes, the very last Gearbox game I ever wasted money on. The moment that I realized that they were fully incapable of making anything that wasn't a Borderlands game.
Even borderlands they suck at lol look at borderlands 3 that game is ass. 2 is the only really good borderlands game imo.
@@Saulbreadmanthe first one was pretty good
Same
@@saintfayde4438 yeeeeaaaahhhh,.... I've had difficulty getting into borderlands. If you give 3,000,000,000 weapons, or whatever the fuck it is, I'm not going to like any of em. Those games are pretty close to seeming like a waste of time for me. I like substance in games
I liked Duke Nukem Forever
You have to play Alien Isolation if you have not. It’s one of the best games ever.
I played this game and completed it on PC back when it was released, game wasnt perfect but as a fan of the films i still enjoyed it. I wonder if my copy had been patched as i remember thinking it felt like everyone was making a big deal about nothing at the time and were just jumping on bandwagons.
“I have suffered for you” 😂💀
There is a really cool mod for this game that makes it a lot more like the original promotional videos.
@RetroRebound you're forgetting about Ripley's custom rifle that you could get as a dlc weapon for Colonial Marines
Pre-ordered this game way back in the day and that was the iconic weapon you got on the 360 version (not sure if you got it with the PS3 or PC versions as well, but then again this was over a decade ago, lol)
I know the GFXtemplar mod for this did a great job
