    wish you'd kept this series up. Was keen to see how you'd paneled and carpeted the van.

    Was wondering about how well it insulates when you are in cold climates like New England in the winter for example. Your method also seems to that it would add square footage to the build.

    I'm now insulating my van with this insulation. Do you recommend to tape the junction of panels between each layers, or just the outside like on your video at 4:22 ?

    Where can I get this insulation in Australia?

    Would you do the insulation and or the sound deadening together or would either give the same benefits.

      Applying the sound deadening mat to the large panel areas helps reduce resonance noise and this closed cell foam insulation helps block external and road noise. So using both together or a product that combines both will give a good result. If you had to choose just one product I would go for this insulating foam layer.

    Would this double up as sound insulation? Or do you recommend both? Looking for the all in one package to save weight

      Hi, this will help reduce external noise but the high density sound-deadening mat that we sell is best at reducing panel resonance. Using both will produce the best overall reduction in noise.

    Hi, please could you let me know if you recommend a vapour barrier after sound deadening and proofing ??

    • @kiravans5874
      @kiravans5874  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I've never fitted a vapour barrier myself and don't know of any converters that do. The sound deadening and foam insulation is non absorbent so you should be fine. I guess if you were living in your van full time with a higher risk of constant condensation, it might be worth considering...

      Kiravans Thanks for that, just the reassurance I needed 🙂. Great tutorials by the way, thanks for taking the time to do them 😉

    Do you know if anyone recommends another layer of foam over the top of the metal framework as this method looks like it would create a huge amount of thermal bridging. I understand there isn't much that can be done about the cab but if people are going far enough to do the panels it seems a waste not to do it properly. Any thought appreaciated

      @kiravans5874  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brynn, you certainly could stick foam over the metal framework but it then interferes with getting a flush finish when fixing the ply panels in place. Another option is to fill the narrow voids in the metal framework with a loose weave 'wadding' type of insulation. We hope to stock this product soon but just haven't got round to ordering it yet and getting the product description up online. Search for 'Dacron Insulation' and you should be able to find it.

    Can you stick the carpet lining over this? Regards steve

    • @kiravans5874
      @kiravans5874  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve, you can if you want but just keep in mind what the finished carpeted surface will look like. It's usually best insulate in the wall cavities and then carpet some plywood panels and screw these on over the insulation.

    Odd that you advise to keep away from rockwool / earth wool, as that's proven to work very well by people living full time in converted vans. Also, what's the R rating for this matting you're using?

    • @kiravans5874
      @kiravans5874  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only reason to keep away from some products is if they are absorbent and the van will be used in conditions that produce a lot of internal condensation. If either of these are not an issue then it is fine. I know recycled plastic wadding type insulation works well too.

    Hi, would you recommend soundproofing/insulating the floor at all before plying it? Or would it not make a great deal of difference? Thanks!

    • @kiravans5874
      @kiravans5874  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Chris, if you are going to put a layer of something under your plywood I would recommend 'Premium Gold underfloor insulation' (Google it, as we don't sell it at present :) It is only 5mm thick so won't raise your floor too much. If you are adding full side furniture and a rear seat, then there is not very much 'floor' left for noise/heat transfer but a layer of insulation will always help... There is little point in using sound deadening mat on the floor as it is not an area that resonates when travelling.

      @@kiravans5874 that's great, thank you. Yes, I'll be having all the usual gubbins in the back so no need to worry about it. These vids are really useful, thanks again!

    The UK is SO FAR BEHIND America when it comes to so many things INCLUDING van customising! I CANNOT buy rolls of ‘thinsulate’ in the UK ONLY FROM USA!!!!???? Plus the many other items for a truly professional looking camper, I have to buy from America! WTF👿👿👿👿👿
