Great video! Never be afraid to communicate what you want to want to your barber! You are paying them for their service! On the same token, don’t be offended/upset/afraid to let them offer suggestions. Remember, we see our face and beards at a completely different angle than anyone else in the world. They may see something we don’t, or if they have the experience, they know what might work for you. In the end though, I think it’s up to us to make that final call. Working with a barber has been a great experience for me. Thanks for taking us along in the process, Dan!

It's nice to have big city resources at hand. I live in a small town in Southern Utah and had to hunt for a barber for my first cheek and neck lines (I'm new to full beards and didn't want to start over because I messed up) and sideburn fades to my bald head. Lucked out, The Barbers of Green Gate is a two man shop and they both have nice beards. It's a hot steamed towel, hot foam, straight razor shop and they are are in their mid-thirties wearing slacks, dress shirts and vests. Sam listened intently to where I wanted to take my beard and then delivered.

Beard looks great as always - it's interesting how much a difference it makes trimming your beard and getting rid of the wispy bottom edges to really give your beard a full, dense look

You looked nervous as hell.....it may have been a awesome experience but the eyes never lie
To be honest, I just wanted to stay as still as possible lol I knew my face would look a little bit off, but I didn't know what else to do lol
Having you stand was a nice touch. I don't know if it was the lighting or the profile, but your beard and mustache look better here than elsewhere. Great work all around.

Looks great Dan, but you broke my 1st rule on getting a beard trim. The barber must be bearded. I went to 4 different shops and observed before I selected one for my 1st trim. No one has ever asked me to stand, I thought that was interesting.
I think it comes down to qualification. I've had more bearded barbers than not mess up my trim, and ladies who don't have beards at a salon give me some of my very best trims. We shouldn't folliculary discriminate, all things considered. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I actually asked two different barbers with beards to do this video and they both led me on... ended up being too intimidated and wouldn't accept because they were too scared to mess it up
Very cool video Dan. I think it would be cool to have an app or something specifically for beard barbers so it would be easy to find someone who has mastered the craft

Yes! I had a few friends with decent beards go in and have their 'barber' trim up their beards and they got absolutely wrecked. Needless to say I'm winning our beard competition so I am not complaining.
I fill ther pain last trim was in January and i got wrecked also i got a lady cutting my hair now want let her touch my beard but i need a good trim now just cant find myself to do it
@@garrycapps4687 A good trimmer and a steady hand man. I have a bitch of a time doing it as I'm missing one eye, so I notoriously end up a little lopsided from left/right.

Everytime I have went to a so called beard barber they've messed it up. The first one almost slit my throat my neck was bleeding in several parts for hours afterwards, the second one I asked the guy to just take away the split ends he took 3 inches of it, the last one I went to I asked the guy to square my beard instead he rounded it off. I will never go to a beard barber again.

Nice video DanC! I bet that was nerve wrecking letting someone else trim your beard. I just can’t do it. Even with my barber who I’ve been going to forever and trust 100% haha. I have all the tools etc. to do it myself and actually enjoy doing it. Maybe someday!

I'll just say I was very surprised this was 6 minutes long, i was expecting like a 25+ minute video of this professional Detroit Grooming beard trim video that we were all waiting and looking forward to! and very surprised that it was pact full of great information.

The 2nd week of April I went to a "Professional" beard barber, and told him EXACTLY what I wanted.... he took off more than 2 months of growth and dug out so much of my under beard that I almost cut it all off, and my mustache was only 1/4" long after he was done with it! I was VERY upset

Trim looks great Dan. I am 11 weeks into only my second beard. I feel like I have no real idea how to trim my own and am thinking of trying a barber. Still scared.

awesome beard ! I wish had my cheeks fuller. The problem I am facing is that I do not get much hair in my cheeks so I am letting my mustache grow to see if I can cover the patchy areas.

@@DanCBearded Makes sense! I get they have a better 360, I just have a really hard time having anyone do it. I have also learned a lot along the way in no small part thanks to you. I also know a lot of barbers don't quite know how to trim properly.

Hey Dan. Looks like he did a good job but as a guy who has a lot of fly-aways I've been taking your advice and nit trimming the sides of my beard. Really trying to grow it out and hoping that once it gets long enough and the hairs have some more weight to them it will start to lie flatter. Are you happy he trimmed all the sides or prefer not to? Thanks.
I prefer not to touch the sides, however I do think all ends need to be trimmed at some point. Maybe once a year or every other year
You looked kind of nervous here! I'm keeping an eye on the beard barber map you've got going. Every time I've had a professional trim, no matter how expensive, I've always liked it at first and then regretted it as things grew back in. He did give some good advice about making sure to bring a reference pic with the same face shape and hair type though, I never did that before.
Agreed! i like it more at first but realized over time I do a better job with me own beard

Yeard, 12 months and 1 day.
Just depends what you shape and length goal would be. Grow longer than what you want, so you can trim down to it

It’s more close to it than I would like, yes I can absolutely see that. This is the only I have ever had someone else trim my beard. I do prefer my style much more
