    In this video I share with you my opinions on the Alpine A110, a car I've been wanting to drive since it came out in 2018. Big thanks to Alpine UK for letting me drive their A110 S demonstrator and being very helpful when it came to filming on what was a busy day for them. The event was 'SMMT Drive Day' which brings all manufacturers together (who want to attend) and allows guests to drive pretty much anything. Time slots are limited so filming is tricky especially if you filmed 4 cars in one day like I did (Alpine A110 S, Golf 8 R Estate, new Polo GTI and Seat UK Heritage Fleet Cupra 280 Ultimate Sub - videos coming soon)

    Sport mode makes a world of difference - throttle is sharper, engine is louder, steering is tighter and more direct. A shame you didn't get to try but appreciate your limited time to review!

      One of those things that a 15 minute test doesn't allow you to do. The hill course is more of a road than a track but I'd love to try one on a track one day

      It's more like a road than a track but it would have been nice to investigate modes but with 30 min sessions designed from print media jounros not TH-camrs, you have to compromise somewhere.

      @@samszulman7851 The only 'issue' with that is the traction control is switched off in race. If you can handle it being off then great. I use Track mode a lot but it is not for everyone. Race is the 'safe' option for most.

    Mine should be in the country now (just about) - went for standard model with the more compliant ride….makes the most of the light weight for British roads, I think! The depreciation on Alpine is glacial, not what you’d expect from a French car. The used 2/3 year old ones you showed were from a time when the A110 started at £46ish k for the base model and the S was mid 50s. Not sure you can compare those used examples with todays list prices and say they depreciate. Most of the motoring press I’ve read suggest the depreciation rate is equivalent/lower than Porsche! So to my mind, a new one to my spec made most sense.

      Yes, think the Premier editions are only about £8k down since 2018, cheaper than owning a fiesta. I’ve driven original S model at Thruxton and enjoyed it, just need to sort a real life test of a base as that’s what I think suits more, though the options I want takes it to £59k, better apr than Porsche though so it still on the list 🤔 Going to wait for reviews of the base Emira before deciding, got until summer 23 so hopefully not nuked beforehand

      Nice one Ian, thanks for the info. Base model is £50k now so not that different to the £46k base. I’m sure on average, depreciation is better than Porsche but I see only GTS as a rival due to base & even S model Boxster Cayman being too common and their deprecation is even less that A110’s! Great car, enjoy yours

    Great first time drive review Andrew ! In Australia only 110 were ever imported( no more coming - due to no side airbag requirements) I have one of the last 4 . It replaced my Mk3 Audi TT. I must admit I find myself taking the long way home from the office. It took me quite a while to warm to it. As a serial GTI owner too, I wonder if I have become a bit soft to a German car fit, finish and comfort/quality . Where my love affair with the TT lasted 6 years I really don’t know if my time with the A110 will be long or short. Support here is minimal. And I have had issues arise with poor/limited support to date . You constantly get asked what is it. It’s exclusive ,however flys under the radar nicely, many non car people prob think its a nice Toyota 86 :) . Love your reviews Andrew - keep up the good work - cheers from Brisbane

    Totally different philosophy to Boxster/Cayman. This thing is even lighter than an Exige. Hence why the seats are as they are - it is all about lightness. The gearing ratios are very well judged - unlike a Boxster/Cayman. I’ve had 2 981s but on British roads these feel much more agile and fun. Not sure why anybody would ever buy a 718 over one of these but many people can’t see past the Porsche badge.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There have been MANY comparisons of Alpine and Boxster/Cayman. Expect there to be many comparisons of them with new Lotus Emira. It might be a different philosophy but exploring that is the key to a review as it allows potential buyers to decide which philosophy they prefer as on face value the cars are very similar. I love the idea of light weight/flimsier materials to enhance performance but I'd expect the car to be cheaper than its "hewn from granite" Teutonic rivals as performance isn't everything in the real world. If you work on the basis of performance is everything you will have a very small market which could well be Alpine's problem.

    Lovely car, but more in the Alfa Romeo pretty and slightly unique car league rather than the solid and quality league of Porsche. I think the Alpine is quite overpriced for what it is, even as used values. Inside whilst quite glamorous, on closer inspection it does look a bit tinny and plasticy, especially with those Halford's door speakers and switches and controls. Brand new it should be around £45k.
