  • Restoration of a Rusty BBQ Grill that had been abandoned for 5 years. It was a new challenge for me because I had never done something like that but we did it with love for our church. Thank you

Still can’t believe you painted the inside!

I would recommend to spray pam, olive oil, crisco...etc inside instead of paint.

This project was something new for me, I am a computer technician but I like to remodel or repair things. It was a serious mistake not to consult with a painter before applying paint inside the grill. The good thing is that I learned a lot in this project. It will not happen again. Thanks for the comments, they taught me a lot. Blessings.

How and what would you use to clean the inside?

I just gave my 500 gallon pit to my church. They love it.

First, awesome job! Two things you might want to add. 1. Non-skid on the bed of the trailer, that's the last place I'd want to lose footing. 2. Weld some tube steel to the top of the rails to protect you from that sharp edge.

Never paint the heating chamber inside or out, you clean off the rust like you did then oil the whole thing down inside and out and burn a hot fire in it and every time you go to fire it up or every couple of times or so you re-oil it and it will look just like its been painted but be like a cast iron skillet inside and out. The trailer and all other parts were OK to paint. I just did a similar grill and it looks freaking awesome and I used zero paint. Whish I could post before and after photos for you.

Well I found the answer I was looking for?
Great job for being the first time.
I would of probably consider sandblasting after like the first hour and thinking.. this ain't working. Lol
Now flip the trailer over lol jk.. cus if the top was bad the under side is worse... bearings, leaf springs, just something to consider. If yall haven't done it yet.

Ill never know why people paint the inside of a bbq. Is it seasoning? 😆

    • @jacobwebster6061
      @jacobwebster6061 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

nope, it's not good to paint the inside of the grill. Just spray it with a high temp oil, like vegetable oil, or canola, or the like. Then build a hot fire to season it.

Good for decoration but not to cook, you will be eating the chemicals of the paint.

I hope the paint stays on and not flake off as etching primer wasn't applied. But good job anyway!

Run a super hot 🔥 fire before cooking ANYTHING in this to burn the paint off.
You aren't suppose to paint the inside.
Once you get the paint off, you'll want to coat it with oil like cast iron.
Just please be sure to get that paint out of the inside.

I'm about to paint a smoker with an HVLP air gun and that rustoleum high heat paint. Did you have to dilute the paint to get it to spray?

Great video. You really should wear a mask when sanding and spray painting. Lung damage isn't fun when you're old.

Let me guess after painting the inside and the grates you cooked the food with pine wood.

Never, ever paint the inside of a BBQ grill. The paint will eventually work it's way into the food. Never paint the grill either.
