On stage at Wolf Trap (1990). This concert shows the "Classic Canadian Brass." Becoming knownas "the Fab Five" in the 90's, this group concertized together for an unprecedented two thousand performances! At Wolf Trap, they create an astounding musical event spotlighting Metropolitan Opera star Judith Blegen as quest.
I am blessed to have him as my teacher! He is great!
Honestly, is it even possible to dislike this? This is one of the best renditions of this song I have ever heard!
Thrillrider10 folks dislike just for the sake of disliking
That's a hell of a cornet sound, nice bend at 1:57 too.
. . . I love, love, love the Canadian Brass : ) Virtuosity, humor, and showmanship beautifuly combined . .
I love your adaption of this song :'D
seriously the best I've heard
this deserves far more then the dismal 21 views it has at the moment
I suspect that the background noise is from magnetic tape. This was probably recorded on videotape and there is bleed through when the tape is stored. The time gap equals the time it takes for the reel to rotate once.
I was fotunate enough to see and hear these same 5 play live on 3 different occasions - their perfomances were a real treat - comedy (yes, great comedic timing!), musical virtuosity, and arrangements for brass that no one else had ever done before!
I also got to see them live, sometime in the mid-1990s. Sadly, they did not play this piece, but they did end with Tuba Tiger Rag. At the end of that, the tuba player hit the low note, and while still blowing the note he spun the tuba around on his lips!
RIP Fred; the world is just a little dimmer without you and your horn.
yeah ronald !
could you guys please do something like this? I think it would work brilliantly!!
amazing musicians
Dixieland, the best form of music to dance to!
Wonderful musicianship! Is there any limit on the number of ways this beautiful song--born from human misery--can be played?
Love these guys.
this is SO AWESOME..!! much love.!
undeniably NICE!!!
Great Job on a Beloved Hymn.
I love these canadian members in this video.
We played an arrangement of this for band. I had the honor of playing the tuba part!
GREAT Ronald!!! The best. :)
nossaaa
muito muito muito bom
parabens ...
showww
You might be hearing an "advance" rather than an echo. This was no doubt originally recorded on magnetic tape. When you store magnetic tape wound up you get a little bleed through to the next layer of tape. However long the tape takes to rotate and move across the head will produce an preview or echo that far apart.
Bravo to all
I hope these members come back in this video.
I love this arrangement to. Think they just put it up, that why there was only 21. It's now 42 and climbing!
parabens pela escolha das musicas lindas de fato muito bom gosto
Good stuff !
I loVE these Guys :D
That makes my day. I hope this has encouraged you to look up more brass band music/jazz music... what is "your type" of genre?
Amazing Canadian Brass!
Bravo!
Different but I love it. Great stuff.
WOW! it sounds amazing mostly at the 3:20 and on =)
If you listen closely... you can hear time breaking because of the beauty.
Bravos um quarteto muito lindo e grandes interpets i strimentais de sopro.
I can’t believe that 81 people dislike this.
They are philistines, no class!
the beard just completes the whole song
Buy the Canadian Brass Quintet books, It isn't the full solos, but if you buy Vol. 1 and 2, you get some of their best.
Bravissimo
if you listen close theres a audio track phantomly playing 2-3 seconds before the main video one plays the same part
makes me proud to be a trumpet player :D
esse careca toca demais.
Super...
wow!
There's a mouth under there????? Duuude.... I seriously thought he kept a trumpet playing angel in there
i came here after watching possible the worlds smallest band to bring my ears back to life
I wish more kids took up the cornet than trumpet. The mellowness is just incomparable?
I have, when i was 7-8 i started playing, and at that time i couldn't lift the trumpet straight for 20 minutes( my lesson time). So i started playing on a cornet, that was in 2010 ☺ i now play trumpet but if there wasn't a cornet i would proberbly play something else☺
Archer Livengood I play both, but I prefer the cornet personally, and I learnt to play the cornet before I did the trumpet
The problem is that inexpensive beginner trumpets are more common than inexpensive beginner cornets, plus having a mixed bag of cornets and trumpets playing the same parts in beginning band can dull one's sensitivity to the differences and individuality of the 2 instruments. I think it's for the best that we have kids start (generally) all on trumpet and then transition to cornet (possibly a school-owned instrument) in high shool or elsewhere if interested, particularly for solo playing.
I just drooled on my keyboard.
@luqmanhakimMLHBB Yamaha is a japanese company, and he said it was a "traditional New Orleans cornet"
Yup. It is called a joke.
@SplitThump it the reverberation of the one trumpet player.
Ok I'm tripping out right now. In the beginning part where he solos, I can hear a trumpet playing vaguely in the background but the trippy part is, the trumpet plays what he plays BEFORE he plays it. So it's not an echo, it's more a ghost predicting what he is goi g to play. Can anyone ELSE hear this??
I think it might be just you, though it might be the tape that’s making that sound
beautiful! Why am i hearing a softer version of the audio before they play?
Man, did Prof. Romm nail this solo or what!? His sustained note at 3:48 was so suspenseful.
Just an edit: That's not Graeme Page on horn. That's David Ohanian.
if you're looking for quintet music, most of canadian brass's music is published
I'm teaching this to myself.
First saw these guys in 1979 with the JDSS music program in Hanover. A shout out to Fred Parson's for taking us!
One Word "Beastin"
wow at 1:02 you can hear an echo of what the trumpet is about to play.
yes i do hear the other trumpet????whats that about??????????? is the soundtrack off??
accually there were people before the first trumpet players and horn player u can can check it out on the website of the canadian brass
@sk8erboy618 it's in the background throughout the entire piece
does anyone hear another trumpet at the beginning in the background?
Always loved this group & always hated the trombone player...only because he looks exactly like my ex-wife's lawyer.
@AUSTIN APOLINAR My, such an intelligent comment! Is it because he's a relative yours?
i looking for music like this to play with my band... any help..??
well I'm glad they got more than those 21 views x]
@sk8erboy618 its a ghost trumpetier
Either I'm the most clairvoyant bastard on youtube, the reverb in that room is breaching a wormhole in the space time continuum, or something is fishy with the audio.... I like to think it's the first one
isn't the cornet and trumpet the same thing?
The pre echo is caused by 'print-through.' It was a common problem back in the days of magnetic tape. Either way Ronnie nails it.
I love the cornet. i have a king but it is in bad shape. i also have a trumpet and it is a kanstul
do you know how hes playing hes playing higher then the trobones at my school play and trumpets dont even have the same clef as the trombhone. im looking at the sheet music and its easy for the tromone but not for the trumpet 1
@sk8erboy618 Its him..
Echo!
I've definitely heard dallas brass play this arrangement too.. :P
ya on the canadian brass store and look it up. its 20$
52 thousand views ago...
Musik vom Feinsten
The tubing is different, giving it a different, but not-so-different, sound than the trumpet.
looks like a EEb key tuba. maybe even a custom maybe one lol. that isn't a name engraved on the bell. so yeah. but it sounds like a EEb tuba.
ooohm paaah
Either I have finally completely lost my mind, or at least the early part of this recording has significant "pre-echo" print-through.
It's still great, don't get me wrong. I just didn't expect to be thinking about Led Zeppelin. :-)
Habéis patinado eh... ahi pone que si quieres comprar el carnaval de venecia y esta cancion no es esa... es amazing grace
gotta love that nasty trombone gliss!
A Canadian group using Yamaha horns....it only makes sense to other brass players. If the airline loses your horn, you can get a replacement Yamaha in any major city large enough to host this group. There is no learning curve on the replacement instrument, it will play just like any other Yamaha of the same model. That is not true of all other brands. This may be a case where practicality gave way to absolute top end quality. These guys traveled enough to experience it all!
the trumpet player with a mouth under his beard is a boss.
@sk8erboy618 it could just be an echo
@sk8erboy618 Um no...I'm pretty sure it's just him...that's awkward...
That was Ronnie also...
I hear a softer version when they play
he should have put the last note up the octave, I'm evil like that!
ron was one of the regualers but not the first starting trumpet
is it just me or when theres a pause u can hear the same song just fainter though
1:03 background noise
if you look close enough you can see the doctor tipping his hat to the band
yep but before him was Martie
This is not my type of genre AT ALL, and the only reason I came across this is because of the class I am taking. But I'm glad I did.
ya that sounds weird
Wow, Red Nichols reincarnated
