Thanks for the shoutout Rob, you're a great friend. I'm THRILLED you're on the TM2, it's such a fantastic bike. Marin knocked it out of the park with this thing.
My son went from 32:09 to 26:41 after upgrading to marin team 1(he even crashed on the marin team 1 and lost 20odd seconds) in the u13 xc race. Converted his tires to tubless and added a dropper although the dropper didn't particularly help. Getting him lighter race tires and maybe a lighter cassette.
Down to 22:30 now, despite a massive fail on the start where he lost many positions and ended up losing 40sec in first lap to the leader and a few more seconds in 3rd lap after someone crashed and blocked the way. He would have challenged the winner if the start was different, the 5th and last lap he did it 13sec faster than the winner, have done many upgrades since, bike is down from 14kg to 11.15kg, he ended up winning the championship.
I have a Team Marin 2 and love it. It can handle black diamond trails for sure. It's been my go to since I got it. I find myself riding it more than my Fezzari La Sal Peak. I'm really looking forward to following along this series. California in the house!
You and HT Party have convinced me on this one. I had a cheap Giant Talon I started on. It was super fun, but it started to feel like I was pushing it past it’s limits, and started having issues. I then upgraded to a YT Jeffsy AL Comp 29, and while it was a fantastic bike, I felt like I was over biking everywhere and I often missed the simplicity and “sketchiness” of my cheap hard tail. I ended up selling it because my local trails are fairly tame. I also discovered i like longer rides with some chunk here and there, and while I love a good downhill I’m not a huge fan of enduro style riding. I’m thinking and hoping this will be exactly what I want and need! Super excited to get it delivered.
I planned on purchasing this in the Spring but cancelled my order and upgraded my 27.5 Bobcat Trail 3. I really regret that decision. Going to sell it and get the Team Marin 2 next Spring.
Thanks for the video, you answered my burning questions regarding the frame issues/cracks. Was it 9 out of 10 frames or a few isolated cases, possibly involving huge drops Has Marin addressed this going forward? I assume they will replace frames, maybe with the new rev.
They were the first generation of this team Marin 2 that had issues. Both seat stays on my 2021 cracked about the 8-10th ride with normal riding. Since then Marin has gone through 2 revisions. The current one with the seat bridge is there latest revision which should be good to go. It's pretty much the same bridge and diameter tubing that's used on the San Quentin which has been bomb proof.
I am not sure that I understand how Shimano views SLX. They have expanded Deore so much to add some value options that SLX seems a bit redundant. Moreover, the differences between SLX and XT mechanical are often quite subtle. Shimano is in the early stages of refining their flat bar groups. I wonder how/if SLX will change. I did, however, just complete a build with XT 11-speed. It’s SUPER cheap now. $58 for a rear mech.
It’s a good frame, well the new design is. Needs some upgrades, wheels, brakes, stem, bars etc. Good starting platform and it can handle tough chunk. Definitely get rid of stock wheels.
Thanks man for this video, looks like a great bike. I wanted to ask what size would you recommend, I'm 182cm? I know the charts say size L, I like smaller frames with a longer seat tube and offset seat post, but I don't know if an M would be too small for my height on this bike. Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to try it anywhere and will have to order it from a foreign e-shop. Thanks for your help.
It’s agile it’s nimble it’s free. I know I know I am an ASSHOLE and you have been clear about it being a ‘partnership’ but I have a hard time taking such a positive review seriously.

They are fast bikes.

So glad to hear that you're loving the bike, Rob! Looking forward to more videos with it.
Thanks, it’s such an awesome ride and such a great value.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing your experience. I feel the same way about mine. They’re fun fast bikes.

That's nice yours came with an XT derailleur. Ours are still spec'd with SLX like their website says. Great upgrade on a great bike!
I have a Marin Bobcat trail 4 and I am satisfied Greetings from Croatia 🇭🇷🙋🏻♂️
Love my Marin. I’m tempted to add this to my stable in addition to the Rift Zone 3 I have already
Hello, is the Marin a Medium please?

I really like their 11 speed xt group set also.
Hello from Australia!

Well done Rob .Great informative video .Good luck
What trail are you riding? Looks like Yellow Fork or Corner Canyon?
It’s the BST just below Ben Lomond peak in the Pleasant View/ North Ogden area.
Ride safe from Japan 🇯🇵
Thanks 🙏
Newshovel is coming up
Lol 😂 🙌
Impressive doing a ride report while actually riding. I presume you don't have an autocue mounted on your bike and it's all from memory?
Hello from Poland 🇵🇱
Awesome 🙌
In Ireland here, what is NICA?

Hello from france
Bonjour 😁
I know who to borrow a pedal wrench from!
Lol yep
Should be fast for the price!
It’s cheap by todays standards 😅 try pricing a similar specced giant or specialized!

totally fair - that is why I emphasized Steve's review on the Hardtail Party TH-cam Channel
Pinkbike rated it really well too in their hardtail review.
It's all on how the rider rides the bike more than the bike itself
First View
Awesome thanks
