I just went to a local seattle xc race a month ago and had a blast, never had an hour of cardio fly by quicker got cooked by a fixie guy on a drop bar though lmao
Wish I knew about this race a couple months ago! My daughter and I are learning to ride with a NICA team this year. She crashed and hurt her arm on that course in the pre-ride, probably the same spot where Race did. Her bike went off into the bushes. I’m going to show her this video and hopefully she’ll be feeling more confident for her next race.
I really enjoyed watching this. I'm thinking of getting into XC and I'm 39. I would like to see more of these races and the progress of you and your boys if possible.
I have only raced once on my mtn bike, back in 1999. It was a 12hr, three man relay, in Missouri, and it was July (temps pushing 100°). I absolutely had a blast, but have never tried again. I am 56 now with less time to ride like I did back then, so my fitness isn't up to snuff. Glad you two had a good time and good luck on the next one.
That's awesome you guys got to race icup. Gives your son a chance to see what the race season will be like and also see how he does with the bike. With the season starting for ut it's only 3-4 weeks away depending on your region. Love watching my son race, its his 3rd year with the high school and new season with a new bike. Good luck to your son and coaching.
Really enjoyable watch and great to see you and your son sharing such a positive experience, sadly my son doesn’t share my passion for cycling but you have inspired me to try an XC race here in Southern England.
Thank you a nice video, and so nice to see you and your young son riding together, your son will be a very good cyclist with a little more experience 👍 Au
I love racing with my son in the off season. I help coach his NICA team but the off-season let's me show him that I'm willing to put it all on the line just as I ask him to do during the NICA season.
What a beatiful place to spend time in. In resembles my own local mountain range of Beskidy. About the race - have prepped up, done some structurized workouts prior to the race day ? Also I think you could gain some edge with clear pedals. Stiffer shoe sole means more power into the wheel. And it seems you could use a thumb lever for the fork lock. And I must say that the kid has got a nice skinny physique. He might be a good climber.
I was thinking of a NICA race, they aim for a 1.5 hour course for the high school average rider. I’m also new to the race scene so perhaps I still have a lot to learn… 😁
I have a bad cyst that was caused by riding a clients bicycle with a hard saddle for a lengthy period during off season recently in ordinary clothing which I am not accustomed to . I will need surgery and recovery time befote riding again .
Thanks for the video...I used to be a great cross country runner running 5 miles in 25 to 26 minutes on average. A car accident in 2018 has left me with a reconstructed knee so running is not a option due to the pounding on my knee but I miss the competition.. figure bike racing might be a good a alternative
I was once in a race. I showed up for a beginner first time race after working the nightshift/afternoon shift and riding my bike about ten miles uphill to the park where the race was As I took my bike lock off my bike and attached it to the fence I noticed that no one else had a rear rack on their bike nor where they wearing t-shirts such as I was. I took my bike lock off the fence and rode to the first turn in the race. They all stayed in line face to staring at each other's butt and I went the other way and enjoyed myself riding along the trail with no one to slow me down. I rode for an hour and found some shade and laid down for an hour and rode back to the race and got my T-shirt for whatever charity the race was for and never bothered racing ever again. I probably could have done o.k. in the race but it's not my thing
As we went over it later we think it was from an over the bar crash he had. He rides 1-2 hour rides almost daily without issue. I think the crash was worse then he first thought.
Soo cool ...your a very cool dad! An old school triple (double or triple) ..10 speed would be my choice of bringing some old technology back for a win. Dont be lazy with your thumbs pushing levers... Front derailleurs at the end of the world... Will they make a comeback in the derailleur world?

Which races? Wednesday nights at sea tac?
Awesome video. My dad is the head coach for my nica team and it is definitely one of the most important ways we bond. It has been over 5 years now
Congrats on the first race. NICA is an amazing program to get him involved in.
Congratulations to you and your son. Very nice you could share this together. 👏👏
Very inspirational Rob.
As a 40-something guy, this makes me want to try a race. Well done!
Lol thanks… it was a fun one.
You need to level out Race’s saddle. That can cause some of the back discomfort and numbing in areas he doesn’t want numb…
love this video... great Dad here taking this on with his son!!

The boy seemed excited after the race. So awesome.

Looks like you two had a great time. And got some great father son bonding time!
4:26 - If only that lady would have counted down a little faster, she could have timed the start of the race with Ad Rock's scream in Sabotage.
Lol 😂 totally
I love mountain biking with my son . Wonderful to see you doing it with your son.

Love it. That’s my thought also.

Great Video
Great effort from you both 👏

40 is the new 30 - well done both of you guys... 🚲🚲
Good job. 12 miles? That's kinda short here in michigan anyways. Just noticed u called it long alot. Usually 20+

Great video of racing track and sum up, just wondering if any of your students, or scouts call you MR. Freezey, lol
Lol it has happened
The DJ playing sabotage to hype up the old boys is so age appropriate 😂
Lol I know right 🙌

Maybe the back pain is from that goofy seat angle?! Might just be the camera angle but it looks tilted way far back 🤔

@@oldshovel OTB - _ouch the back_ 😆
Lol love the after race talk, I coulda did better, I should have done this love it!! ❤️ feels good after doesn't it. Biking community is great!
Totally awesome community. The good sportsmanship if the other riders totally put my son at ease.
