One of the best matches in the history! Maybe the best in World Cups! Because of this I started to follow every football competition. I will rewatch this 10000 times and it will give me goosebumps every time.
Italian commentary of this is iconic. Love how Italy play always so easy they glide past people and spray passes. On their day they're so unpredictable
After Grosso's strike, four interesting on-field celebrations were observed: 1. People piling up on top of Grosso - Natural. 2. Totti picking up a bottle & hurling it towards the spectators - Inexplicable. :) 3. Cannavaro & Buffon hugging each other tightly - Pure relief as Lippi's substitutions were not augmenting the weary defence. :) 4. Gattuso running towards Lippi to smack his face with both palms & then trying to choke him - Perfectly natural for Gattuso. :) :) Jokes aside, what a memorable match... I am from India & always been a fan of Italian football. Had celebrated the 1982 victory as a teenager (despite not being able to see the matches on TV). Have always admired the lion-hearted players after reading about the epic WC semi-s, against the same opponents, in 1970. This match was right up there with the best of WC clashes. Cannot think of any match that could be so gripping & intense even when 0-0 till the 118th minute.
This was our "it's coming home" dream smashed, figuratively speaking. It's 15 years ago, but I still remember how gutted I was, never again afterwards (perhaps with the exception of Bayern losing the CL final at home to Chelsea). But have to give it to the Italians, they were just phenomenal that night.
I’m italian and I watched this game amongst german tourists, it was a razor thin close match till the end and I remember feeling bad for all the germans that were watching the game with me. But at the end we partied toghether hard when italy won against france so they got to enjoy a crazy night haha

@@giovanniangioi5308 the most legendary match between us was the WC semi in Mexico in 1970, which you also won, 4-3 after extra time. I was too young to experience it live but I watched it later: More than 100.000 spectators in the Azteca, Schnellinger's equalizer in stoppage time, Müller 2-1 for Germany but Italians turned it around within 15 minutes. Beckenbauer played with a bandage due to a broken shoulder. I was once told that Grosso's goal celebration in 2006 was imitating Gianni Rivera's winning goal of that match. I love footbal even when it sometimes means pain, especially when against our Italian friends.
@@thomasnoller7818non credo Grosso, stava imitando Rivera.. My, how the mighty have fallen. Watching these highlights depress me to tears, remembering how great they once were compared to now.
