    I feel like splitting costs with your SO should not be about keeping score. You are completely right - it is about convenience for you and for your partner. Nothing is going to be 100% equal but the easiest thing to do is make things make sense for the both of you.

    People don’t realize but sometimes having pets cost as much as having a child depending on their needs. We treat our dogs as if they’re children and we do what we can to give them the absolute best. Fur parents if you don’t have pet insurance, GET IT NOW! We got our dog neutered and paid up front first and then a week later we got a refund from insurance. We pay around $40 a month for it too. Totally worth it.

      @@AjaDang I finished the video and I loved this format. A focused and digestible deep dive on one category is so useful in understanding the larger scope of one's finances. oooooo my friends always tell me how expensive it was to own a dog but this definitely made me realize I’m not quite financially prepared yet

    • @AjaDang
      @AjaDang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      you definitely want to know what you're getting yourself into. Many people get dogs and then end up dropping them off at shelters bc they can't afford it.

    • @brookerandolph6146
      @brookerandolph6146 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It doesn't have to be this expensive either. I have had my dog for 4 years now and he has only gone to the humane society for check ups/shots and its very good and affordable. I only spend $50 a month on him! And he he super happy and healthy. I shave him myself too. I also clean/remove the plaque myself monthly.

    • @mztynah
      @mztynah 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I only spend money on grooming ($40) and food ($50) monthly. It really depends on your lifestyle, unless your dog has a special diet or health issues it is very low cost.

    • @inkasaraswati7625
      @inkasaraswati7625 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@mztynah You shouldn't count on your pets always being healthy though. You should have enough financial leeway for emergencies and special diet. Two of our cats (we don't have dogs) need special diet, something that we didn't expect when we first had them as they're not old, and their food bill is substantial. One of our cat got ran over, causing an entire month worth of salary for her surgery and immediate recovery. I think that you should be confident that if something's going on with your pet, you'd be able to take care of them.

    April is the first month I didn't spend a dime on my dog. But only because I bought 3 months worth of of dog food and went to the groomers last January, went to the vet in February, then went all out in March because it's my dog's birth month so I spent on special dog treats (I usually make them but sometimes I get "exotic" meats and other parts like liver and heart), new dog bed (or rather first real one), and some grooming supplies.
    It definitely isn't cheap to own a dog but I actually love spending for them..

    Your feelings on puppies are my feelings on kittens. Everybody always wants kittens, kittens, kittens, and yeah, they're cute, but there are SO MANY amazing adult cats waiting for good homes. We don't plan on adopting a kitten ever again.

    • @AjaDang
      @AjaDang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes! Also should've spoken on the importance of spay and neutering. Soooo many kittens during "kitty season" and it just overflows the shelters and leaves older cats at high risk of euthanasia.

    • @skybluecrafts5494
      @skybluecrafts5494 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AjaDang Thank you for mentioning this! If people knew how many animals are euthanized due space limitations because of the huge #s coming in I think they would be more inclined to spend the money to spay/neuter their pets.
      And in the case of cats...I feel all kittens are sweet and playful but you don’t really see their true personality (I.e. active vs calm, cuddly or independent) until they are older. I 100% would recommend choosing adult cats.

    • @pri.sci.lla.
      @pri.sci.lla. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
