      If you do use a laptop it would be best if it had a USB-C port for the fastest transfer rate with an external drive. Unless your laptop has a lot of extra storage. Thanks for watching!

      You pirate it. Use a VPN and go on yts or magnetdl and just search up whatever movie or show you want. Throw the files into a folder and point Plex to it. Plex takes care of the rest.

      From what I've seen, people either download their shows/movies or convert them from old DVDs. Either ur own DVD collection or go to thrift stores, garage sales, ur local library, etc to get them

      Make MKV. It’s a free software with a great forum. This is for ripping your own DVDs. You’ll have to buy some hardware for Blu-ray/4K content. The forum does well at guiding you.

    I’m running a similiar PC for my Plex server for a few years now. But not using Windows… You dont need to install the server like this, i’ve installed TrueNas Scale (free NAS OS) on my PC as a hypervisor and running Plex as an app. Plex has an offical, up-to-date app for TrueNas and that way i have both a NAS and Plex running :-) much more power efficient then running Windows 24/7…most of the time on idle TrueNas runs with 0-2% CPU usage :-)

      This is a good idea, usually there is a trade off, in this case a learning curve for most people. A simple install on windows is quick and easy but more power to ya. Thanks for sharing and for watching!

    it gets addictive though at what hardware and all and the libraries get large!!!

    • @GTKTheater
      @GTKTheater  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You know, it doesn't take much, if this will be a dedicated PLEX server the graphics card doesn't matter. I would recommend 16gb of ram for any windows server but a little more wont hurt. The Processor in these will be enough regardless but the one thing that will matter is the speed of you drives. I would be sure the OS is running on an SSD the other drives can be regular 7200rpm drives but these system will also do SAS drives 2x fast so the performance will be better the faster the drive speed. Great question, Thanks!

    Plex is a great media server, but a desktop PC dedicated is overkill unless you have a lot of streams going on at once.
    A Mini-PC with a USB external drive housing that passes through to the PC will be pretty inexpensive and very up-gradable.
    I have Linux on a desktop computer with Plex running as a Docker container, it uses a tiny fraction of the processor and memory. I have 8 other containers running and it's still nearly idle.
    Sure there's a learning curve for the Linux and containers setup, but worth it, and once set up, will run for years without attention.
    If you do containers, and backup your configuration, you can move to another computer pretty easily.

    • @GTKTheater

      Yes, you first copy your movies to the folders on your system and then install PLEX. In the setup you point the directories to your drives or folders and it will search for all media on the drive or folder and add them to your PLEX menu.

    Hey, I live in a dormitory and my internet is provided, without access to a router, by boingo. They restrict the amount of devices I can have the network. Do you know if that would present a problem for remote casting?

    • @GTKTheater
      @GTKTheater  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @RyudoMorisato
      @RyudoMorisato หลายเดือนก่อน

      The people are access Plex, not your dorms router. If the people accessing your Plex are dorm mates, they are already attached to the router, and it’s not relevant. Then they are connecting to your server via Plex. On everyone’s end but yours, it’s no different for them than going to Netflix… you’re just controlling the content

      You may not be aware of this but, form a technical standpoint the term Server refers to the software regardless of the hardware. If I were to just install PLEX Media Server on my PC it would still be a PLEX Media Server because the PC is running the PLEX Media Server software.
