So you can record Netflix to your own hard drive, I didn't know that was allowed, or are you referring to regular TV programing. I watch through Directv so I'm not sure how you would 'record' from Directv to Plex.
I record cable TV via a HDHomeRun box using a CableCARD from my cable/Internet provider. You can also do it with over the air TV channels with a different HDHomeRun box.
I mentioned that in the video I think (although I recorded the video twice so I could have missed saying that). I also show it at the end where I show RAM/CPU utilization. Yeah, it’s limited to 4GB non-upgradable. Some of the small mini PCs do that to make it smaller. They’re creating a new series so maybe they will have some with more RAM in the future. You could use this box in similar situations you would use a 4GB Pi but it’s x86-64 and the CPU is about twice as fast as the Pi 5. The PCIe for the NVMe is faster than the Pi 5 since it has 4 lanes of Gen 3 instead of 1 lane. It’s slightly less power efficient at about 10W TDP (didn’t measure the Wattage yet).
@@homenetworkguy You made a big point at minute 2:45 about it having 32GB, and how 8GB that is on other devices is not enough.....let along only 4GB. Please take this as just an opinion and sincere suggestion......Please consider writing a script and using it in your videos. You ablib a lot and as a newby to a lot of your topics, I have to try to figure out what you have said as well as the technology you are explaining. You could also then publish the script like you have done in the past. I really like your videos, and the topics you publish....it is just hard to follow you sometimes. Sincerely! Take care.
I apologize: 32 GB of eMMC storage (other Vault Pro models only have 8 GB of eMMC storage)- not 32 GB of RAM. It has 4GB of soldered non-removable RAM.
Thats one of the main reason I didn't buy protectlli, all the units have soldered on ram, and low amounts of it. I chose a topon n305 unit and ordered my own nvme and sodimm ram. It should be here in around 10 days, so I hope I picked a good one. I will run proxmox with Ubuntu running with emby server. Anyone have experience with topon?
Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of experience on which brands would be best. It would probably be better to get an RF based remote instead of IR based so you can put your media player out of sight.
It’s possible if your TV supports it. Typically to support various media formats it depends on the capabilities of the Plex client and the TV’s capabilities. I don’t have any way of testing it because I don’t have a modern TV with HDR. Here is one post about Dolby vision I found: www.howtogeek.com/888440/does-plex-support-dolby-vision/
So the servers one thing but where do you get all the content from to put ON the server, I have a few DvdsBut nothing the would fill up several servers.
I’ve had a Plex Media Server since 2010 perhaps? Near the beginning of Plex. I’m old so we owned a bunch of DVDs and I buy Blu-ray’s of our most favorite movies so all of my videos we own. It’s a decent sized collection but not as big as some users who have set up automated downloads to illegally obtain movies. I also put my music collection and videos from our phones on Plex as well. We don’t watch the videos off our phones as much on Plex but since I already have them backed up I just added them to Plex. In addition, since I have a lifetime Plex Pass, I use the DVR functionality to record some shows from our cable service.
I like this setup. Personally though I just use a long hdmi cable from my desktop computer to my television and use a wireless mouse and keyboard to control it.
I think that I could at some point. I’m old school when it comes to deploying Nextcloud because I set it up from scratch instead of using Docker. I have found I always had decent performance doing it that way using the recommended stack described in their user manual. I also never run Nextcloud on a Pi 4 like many users who have had performance issues.
How dare you start a flame war! Just kidding. It’s no problem at all. Always great to have options and to evaluate which is best for your use case/preferences. I much rather have several choices than only one choice especially if that one choice is not very good.
That pretty much sums it up. Plex likely has the most options for clients than any other platform. You can play Plex on most any type of device you can imagine.
Great video. Would you do one on remotes? This is close to ideal except for the couch experience!
Thanks! That could be an interesting topic. A quick search of HTPC remotes yields some interesting options that one could compare in a video

Hmmm The Protectli website shows the V1210 with only 4GB RAM, soldered on the board and not upgradable. Is your unit a special test unit?

@@homenetworkguy My mistake....you clearly said 32GBH of eMMC storage.....not RAM (what I "heard") Thanks for correcting me.

Any tips on a remote control to use with the tv?

Does it support Dolby Vision Profile 7 common to most blurays?

Yeah, whatever works best for you is great! I think it’s fun seeing how everyone runs their setups.
Is there some way i / we could convince you to make a video on nextcloud :( in the same manner in a Apps VLAN, behind a DMZ / Caddy / Crowdsec.

Not trying to start flame war, but, what's better Kodi or Plex? I am using Kodi for a while now, so I'm looking for a reason to switch to Plex.
The main reason to choose Plex is the end user apps are better (interface, performance, ease of access). But if you're happy with Kodi it's fine.
As always, it depends on your use case

It's been a while since I've used Kodi, but what turned me off was the UI. I'm sure it has improved, but it was really bad
Thank you for a great content btw ❤
You’re welcome! Glad you like it.
