Thanks to your video, I was able to set up my Plex media server. It is the only video with which I was able to mount my PLEX server on my raspberry pi5. A greeting from Spain :)
Hey ! Thanks for your Tutorial. It was really helpful ! I see there is an update. Do you know how to update ? I right click and check update on my main menu on Casa OS, but it's wrinting that there is any update... Thanks
I would look up Cloudflare tunnels if you want access to casaOS on your pi outside your network. Otherwise, Plex can port forward and be accessible outside your wifi already.
Hi, This video is great, but I'm running into a problem with the configuration upon reboot. I'm running this setup with three drives (independently powered and connected via a powered USB hub) and after a little bit of trial and error, I figured out how to modify the instructions given to properly format, label and mount all three drives. But now I'm running into a problems and errors and boot loops on any reboot or restart of the raspberry pi 5. I've been trying to find a solution to the problem online, but I cannot narrow down the solution to one I can apply to your guide. From what I have read, it seems like the issue I'm running into is related to either, (A) because of the way Raspberry Pi OS is configured, I think what I read said that PARTUUID may not 'static' for reasons related to using Pi's in a cluster, so the drives UUID may not be staying fixed after a reboot or (B) The instructions are missing code to set drive priority and/or drive timing so the Raspberry Pi knows to delay loading a boot drive until a specific drive boots which has the configured OS on it. I also read something about problems with rebooting where the OS may be writing relevant boot data to the extra mounted drives and it could be causing boot issues. I think the problem is likely (B) and the instructions need additional code to make sure the system only boots the Micro SD card and not the other drive(s). Do you know what code would need to be added and where in order to fix the boot issue?
I followed all your step however when installing plex in casaOS i got this message Error response from daemon: could not select device driver "" with capabilities: [[gpu]] and plex logo is grayed out
HI has anyone run into an issue when trying to connect to CasaOS via the IP. I am getting a 403 Forbidden and I have no idea on how to resolve it. Thanks
Yes you can use HDD ... Ethernet connection is the best cause when you ssh into pi 5 or access the casa OS with in a network you wont face any lag, latency will be very low where as WIFI module in pi 5 very bad I didn't like it. It drops the connection sometimes.
it works really well but I got a problem when I reboot the Pi... I might have made a mistake somewhere when I made the mount automatic after reboot.... decided to skip the last passage and do it manually everytime a reboot is needed
ping -4 .local doesn't seem to find the raspberry pi for me. Any idea why? I had to log into my router instead to view current users. I noticed when I tried to ping like how you showed, it worked for some hosts but not for others. I'm curious as to why
Pretty much faster than Pi 4 bro for sure. 4K videos may take a bit of time for transcoding. But 1080P will work smoothly. GEt 8GB RAM Model dont go with 4GB ..
So I was able to mount media and successfully get movies to work. I'm having trouble getting TV shows to work correctly. The folders and files are named appropriately. But it doesn't recognize any content in the folder.
great video on my side, I installed Ubuntu and plex server but when I put mkv films in 4k or other it does not work I have an error "not enough power" however on the video you are watching a video in 4k? I have a pi5 4GB
This is probably a dumb question but it is necessary to use CASAOS to run Plex on a raspberry pi 5 and use it as a home media server? Is it possible just to run the pi and Plex?
Thanks for the tutorial. Itc was a lot of fun following the instructions. I have run into an issue where after completing everything if it reboots it stalls and won't get past a boot saying something about the user doesn't have rights. I've done the installation twice and each time it dies the same thing. If you're kind enough to respond I'll be glad to post the exact error. The only thing i can think of is that the uuid that is displayed and copied send too short compared to the example. Anyway, thanks.
is the performance of the raspberry 5 much higher than the raspi 4? in case of streaming 4k videos inside my home network? sometimes my raspi 4 laggs while streaming high quality movies
Hi, having a problem upon restart... if i understood it seems that there's a conflict with the automatic mount of the external drive.... is anybody experiencing the same issue?
Followed through to what i could. little differences with the drive being mounted. But now i cant watch my vidoes even though theyre in plex i get a "file unavailable"
Question, why you all use a MicroSD card if you can use a m.2 SSD with adapter (MicroSD Cards are not build for working space, it should used only for Data storage) ???
Usually means you referenced it in the wrong directory or misspelled the fstab ... maybe with a capital? Nano will create a new blank file if the target file doesn't exist.
I followed your guide and after the last reboot the pi went into emergency mode. It’s stuck now. Not a good guide here at all. Now I have to start over completely. Thanks!
Pi 5 lacks hardware encoders, you can't use it for hw accel. There might bea chance someone will get hw accel to work with a dedicated gpu on the pi 5.
@@kskroyaltech The external drive I connected at first did not show when running the format. So I had to do a reboot on the pi for it to show. After that it worked fine on all further steps.
Yo i was just scrolling through yt and came across this fresh video. So i decided to stay and watch this 😅 cus im a big linux nerd and i use arch btw 😂

Should it be UUID="34b783d2-0937-4243-bda5-07a5acffa613" or UUID=34b783d2-0937-4243-bda5-07a5acffa613 Documentation is not specific but I believe it is without quotes! This video may be about Plex on Rpi5 but for me it taught me a lot about mounting drives - Thanks for that!

Did you add the .local after the filename? "ping raspberrypi5.local" if so the the most likely reason is that you mistyped the name and will have to plug in a monitor and keyboard to get to the command line and type in "ip addr". Or just start over ... its the only way to be sure. You could also connect to your router to and find the new device on it and its assigned ip address.
Thanks to your video, I was able to set up my Plex media server.

Worked perfectly. Thanks for quick and precise tutorial.
You're welcome!
Thank you for taking the time to create a complete guide for this setup. Your explanation of all the steps is really nice and easy to understand.
did the HEVC playback on these ever work? im building a new PI5 plex server to close my seedbox down.
I guess it works..
Got mine up and running and it streams great. Thanks for this. I am having a hard time updating PMS, though. Any chance of making a video for that?
Great video, nice job. If I'm only playing 1080 videos on a local network, do I need to over clock it still?
Better overclock for improved experience. Stock Clock speeds are not great.
Hello, could you make a video on how to update the Plex server from CasaOS?
how to do same with nextcloud in umbrel os
I am using a raspberry 4 model b. I haven't a clue. Any recommended videos or reading ?
Just follow this vid

What if I am using at HAT for my hard drive? Will I have to change some things?
NO need to change anything. in fact it will be much faster.
thanks a lot man ! Some of you made the casaOS dashboard available over the internet ?
I would look up Cloudflare tunnels if you want access to casaOS on your pi outside your network. Otherwise, Plex can port forward and be accessible outside your wifi already.
if i have a buffalo nas can i still do this? I'd need to access via ip
Why not.

How well does transcoding work on a remote stream?
Not Bad. I didn't notice major changes.
When i'm logged in casaos and try to install plex it tells me no matching manifest for linux arm v8 and does not install. how do I fix this?
HI has anyone run into an issue when trying to connect to CasaOS via the IP. I am getting a 403 Forbidden and I have no idea on how to resolve it. Thanks

It's a problem with routers. Its better to use a tool named advanced ip scanner
www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/
I'm interested in buying a raspberry for this. What is the experience with transcoding 1080p and 4k videos? Only one transcoding at a time. Thanks!

Try to scan the library or reboot the PI

casaos makes the installation hassle free. Yes you can install PLEX on pi without the need of casaOS

Sorry for the late reply . Yeah sure you can tell me.
@@kskroyaltech no worries. I figured it out. The drive was mounted as NTFS not ext4. Sorted it out now it's good. 👍
Would I be correct in assuming overclocking the Pi5 isn't necessary for 4K 60FPS streams?
It can resolve issues regarding video steams.
What about OMV 7 + Plex? It has GUI for drive operations (mounting and formatting) which is easier.
You can do that way also

Hmm cheak the file in drive first , then recheak the drive mounting paths
Question, why you all use a MicroSD card if you can use a m.2 SSD with adapter (MicroSD Cards are not build for working space, it should used only for Data storage) ???
because the pi has a built in microsd cart slot your meant to use for your main drive
Still working great!, ty
You're welcome!
Yep it works.
For some reason I can't install Plex in CasaOS, I can't even press "Install" it just says "Not compatible with armv7 devices.", any ideas?
Reboot the Pi and try again.
hi is this to get rid of paying for Netflix and to play games ?
Yes these are netflix alternatives to host own media server with your content not for gaming.
Anyone run into an issue with a blank fstab file? Or know how to fix it?

ctrl+shift+v? and i was wondering why it wouldnt work pasting damn you are a good person :)
Have you got hardware acceleration working on jellyfin?
Pi 5 lacks hardware encoders, you can't use it for hw accel. There might bea chance someone will get hw accel to work with a dedicated gpu on the pi 5.

It's almost similar to this. But sure I will post a video soon.

Should it be
UUID="34b783d2-0937-4243-bda5-07a5acffa613"
or
UUID=34b783d2-0937-4243-bda5-07a5acffa613

run *blkid* command & you can copy the UUID
the format is UUID=""
Inside double quotes provide a device block id..
