Great explanation of fixing metadata. I have an unrelated question regarding Libraries. Are the names on the left column names of folders or names of libraries. Thanks.
@mLernen is correct the names on the side are what you named the library that points to your folders, they don't need to be named the same but I try to keep them the same to try and not confuse things. Thanks for the comment!
My biggest issue with Plex is that they have all these settings but don't really provide a simple and efficient way of providing everyone what the best optimal settings are...IE What should the Database Cache Size (MB) size be in the Library settings? default is 40mb....
i want to be able to listen to my music by genres, like 80s 90s or trance. my mp3s are tagged as such. but plex doesnt show all of them... any idea why
You need to try using a renaming tool such as MP3tag to edit the meta data of the files, it is easy to use and will help tags to show up that you are looking for. Here is a link www.mp3tag.de/en/
Do you keep all the movie files together in one directory? Seriously?? You're supposed to have each movie in a separate folder, with the folder name containing the name of the movie and the year in parenthesis.
Hi, you can do it anyway you want, this is what I find the easiest. I put all the movies in the same folder based on age. The folders are G, PG, PG-13, PG-16, and PG-18 so can find a movie to match who is watching quickly. I also put all the movies for big series in one folder like Harry Potter is in the Harry Potter folder in the PG-16 folder. The date is just added to the end of the movie file so Plex can correctly identify the move a lot easier. But TV shows are different, I put them in the TV-G, TV-PG, TV-PG-13, and TV-PG-16 Folders but the TV series goes in a folder with the name of the series and the date it first aired so plex can I identify the TV series and and each episode is placed in the folder named "episode 01" "episode 02" etc.... Thanks for the great question
I use filebot its a few pounds for a year and is fantastic. So I rip in make mkv the drag the file to file bot then click to rename then send to plex folder. Fantastic fod tv series.
Cool tool, but just naming the file the name of the movie and adding the release date lets Plex take care of all that 99.999% of the time. But I could see using it for some projects thanks for sharing!
Yes that is a cool feature, under the properties for each video you can edit the sort name. It just affects the order of the movies on your home screen. You can use any naming convention you want to sort the way you want by alphabetical order.
Yes you can, but as for me I find it much easier to organize, manage, and find content in PLEX and on my server this way, but that is just my stupid idea. Don't let me hold you back...

The library name

You know I have not changed any setting and kept all the defaults and it has worked great for years. Thanks for the comment you got me thinking...

Filebot any good?
@@michael-4k4000 I would say so.
@@michael-4k4000 Filebot is a must have for serious enthusiast.
It's very handy for getting TV shows in, grabbing the subtitle file at the same time (preset) without browsing the ancient Open Subtiles page
Hello, Is there a way to put the Movies in order ex Bad Boys 1, Bad Boys 2 and so on?
Have you seen the video? its in the last tips

Thanks for the tips, this is one of the complaints I have about Plex, it gets it wrong way too often. This should definitely help.
After years of adding movies I know it will... Give it a try (2023) added release date works 99.9999% of the time! Thanks for watching
Anyone have service they share? Don’t expect it for free. Thanks and great video
Thanks for the comment!
Cant't you create another profile with ratings restricted instead off doing differnt folders with different ratings that's stupid
Yes you can, but as for me I find it much easier to organize, manage, and find content in PLEX and on my server this way, but that is just my stupid idea. Don't let me hold you back...
these tips didn't help
Sorry, thanks for watching and the comment.
