Love Aaron's energy! He brings a fun perspective to the discussion and I feel like him and Kyle are not afraid to say things that might be controversial. I'd love to see all 3 of you guys on the show more!
The Return of Aaron! I love this format guys. Kyle and Braydon were already a good combo, but with Aaron now you guys are my all star team. I think with three of you, you can all lean a bit more into your quirkier personalities. I might be speaking blasphemy, but I think Chris/WIll was a better combo than Chris/Aizec because the brothers are too similar to each other imo. I like Aaron's "quirkiness", but maybe I'm biased cuz his paddle preferences is a little too similar to me (Pulse Apes V, and then switching to the Saga because I'm trying to go more hybrid and be better with a smaller sweet spot). Braydon, I think you're a perfect "play by play" guy. Kyle's the old vet "back in my day I'd pummel you with a wooden handle" and Aaron's got the positive energy that only untarnished youth can bring. Keep it up guys!
Best comment of the year right here ha you described us better than we could. This was the first time all three of us were on and I agree, it worked well. We’ll get Aaron on more often.
No gaslighting Aaron! He's a fun addition. I agree with his flop choice and am now interested in his underrated and current paddle choices. Loved this 2024 summary! Looking forward to what 2025 brings.
I think you gentlemen have spoiled us. I think Aaron needs to make more than a just a special guest appearance. I think it's a nice blend having the three-way conversation.
I have a reload and It's been my main for the last few months. I got gold in a Men's 4.0 event with it. I love the fact that I can swap out the grit right before a tournament and know that I'm still using the same paddle I've been practicing with.
Re: Franklin Featherweight... I have not seen anyone local playing them except me. I played the Dynasty for a month, played around with adding weight and the sweet spot improved a little. BUT when I tried the Tempo I found a significant difference. Stock, it was noticeably better in that regard, and it's light enough that with about 5g of weight on each side, I find it to be pretty much exactly where I want it to be in terms of sweet spot. That's the real benefit here .. the starting weight on these is soooo low that there's plenty of room to modify to your liking.
Friday knows how to run ads and they seem to have a big budget. Combine that with a good enough paddle at a good price and you see them in a lot of players hands ha.
I agree with you all that the bigger companies may not like more durable paddles but it's stupid to empathize with them on that. It is not realistic to require a new paddle every 3-6 months at the prices they are at. The regulators need to require these companies to make more spin durable paddles for the benefit of the consumer or we need a way to replace our surface without replacing the whole paddle. Pro Play and heavy paddle regulation is negatively impacting the possibility of how good paddles could be.
To be honest, I'll have to disagree with Kyle. Although yes the Franklin 12 has a small sweet spot but so do other 12mm paddles, I've used the CRBN Thomas Wilson that didn't have much bigger of a sweet spot. If you are a 4.0+ player and don't have a hard time finding the sweet spot, the featherweight has everything you need, good power and pop and surprisingly good control. It's not edge to edge sweet spot but a smaller sweet spot paddle and a thinner paddle imo because it makes you more precise and gives you feedback on what to do. I mostly play with 14mm, but the Franklin 12mm is not as bad as Kyle put it out to be. The thing is the paddle is one that can be enhanced with perimeter weighting like literally every paddle on the market, the difference is once you have it weighted up and nice, it won't be a high static weight
How long do you guys think the innovation bubble can last where companies are constantly coming out with new paddles and almost have to in order to stay relevant? Do you think at some point this bubble is going to burst or is pickleball unique in that the paddles last only a few months max and thus the demand for a new paddle is on going?
@@pickleballeffect I was always averse to Engage but I bit on the Pursuit Pro1 6.0 lite version and I really like it. It's been my main for the last 2 months or so. I am surprised with the combo of power, control and spin.
Been using the M2F 14mm for 7 months and love it. Great control and feel but sometimes I wish I had a bit more power. I don’t need a major increase in pop more so just power but I know they often go hand in hand. Any suggestions? I like wide bodies :)
I'm having the same dilemma as you. I liked the M2F14 for its soft touch and control, but I wish for a little more power, especially with drives and serves. I bought Monarch All-Court but decided to return it as it had a stiff face (similar to 6.0 DBD) and was a little head-heavy. I demoed Flare Ti - it had a nice plush feel, somewhat similar to M2F14, but didn't feel fast enough in my hand. I may try Flare Prime X next, but I'm reading that it's not that plush. If that doesn't work out, I'll buy another M2F14 - it's too good with touch and control. Someone suggested Jellybean as well.
Can we get confirmation on the Apes Pulse… is it a power paddle, control paddle, all court, does it break in and get more powerful? Seems very interesting to me but the reviews have been very different.
Had it (Pulse V). Returned it. I think it lands in all court but it does have good amount of power when you want/need it. For me the feel was all wrong, so sent it back.
Following and reading comments online since its release puts it in the all-court leaning power category after break in without much change once you get thorough the initial break in.
How does having a paddle that requires a “break in” deemed as legit? Hitting it until something changes in its structure so you get the acquired results…?
I’m almost to the point that we need to just go back to wood paddles with decent grips and some sort of foam on the front like pink pong paddles and call it done.
@ I’ve been in it 4 months. Kevlar was the hotness and there were not many hybrid shapes. Now hybrids are everywhere. Wide body’s are a thing. Now PET and crazy gen 3. Will .
I think 10mm cells with thicker cell walls like the SAGA can make a difference on durability. The cost to get paddles approved should slow down the infux. Foam causing "break in" and how a paddle plays over time is sketchy. I'm curious to see if SPECTRA makes it more into the faces.
Year of durability is an interesting idea. I think durability is already here. My Ronbus 1.16 and girl's Vatic Pro v7 both lasted 1 year+ of play 2-5 times a week. the face is much smoother now but i can still hit topspin winners all day in rec play against high level players. Looking back the vatic v7 is still an amazing paddle and feels like a j2. Im waiting for the ripple now but my gf's pulse V is insane for feel, power, and spin. She went from 3.7 to 4.0 day 1 with that paddle upgrade. I'm not exaggerating. All the sudden im thinking I should go with the Pulse S instead of the R1 Ripple lol!
Kyle might have been alluding to the Technifibre x 6.0 partnership in the “trailing off” conversation, and I think maybe as a trend by the end of 2025 you’ll see Wilson, Babolat, Head, Yonex and maybe other legacy tennis companies finally taking pickleball seriously. They will need to release serious paddles and sponsor talent or they’ll be extremely behind.
I’m surprised you guys say you feel like Engage is falling out. I feel like Engage should be getting a similar amount of love as Paddletek. They’re American made, use a unique proprietary core, they’re cold pressed Gen 1, they’re on a similar pop / power level to the Bantams, and they have an awesome warranty / customer service. But it’s true they really need to change the paddle face graphic lol.
The Engage Pursuit Pro is the best paddle on the market. The Pursuit Pro P1 is too light in the head, feels like a Joola. The Pursuit Pro 6.0 just bores through the pickleball. If you are strong and still have lightning quick hands, use the Pursuit Pro 6.0.
@ The local senior pro near me uses an Engage Pro Ex (non-6.0) weighted to 10oz. It probably has a swing weight of 130. And he still has faster hands than anyone! I agree, the Pro EX is an amazing paddle.
Another great content and podcast gentlemen, I agree with Kyle the MOD being overrated, paddle of the year for me due I have played it on several occasions when I purchased is the Paddletek Bantam ESQ-C 14.3mm version Aurora colorway, reason it has power and pop but as long you can dial it in and control it, been liking the standard/widebody shape so far, even though just received the Saga Flash SH in the mail this week can't wait to play with the Saga Flash
Help me understand..... you dog the Ruby, then pick the J2K for paddle of the year. The J2K is just an uglier version of the Ruby that cost less. Honestly.... the Thrive Azul plays better and looks better than both of those IMO.
I tried the Ruby a couple of times and found it played flat and didn't have any power(and I was coming from the Gearbox CX14 which my buddy calls a wet noodle paddle!) I ended up with a J2K which has more power and pop than the Ruby and a very large sweet spot(esp compared to the Gearbox) and lots of reset control.
I have the 12 featherlight doesn’t feel all that bad. I could see it being a flop as far as not accomplishing the buzz they were aiming for(Paddletek wannabe maybe?)
Wrong about the Ruby. I've had 4 DBDs and a Ruby. Played them almost exclusively for a year. They play differently. And WTH? How can Ruby be worst and J2K be the best? There is soooo much overlap with the Ruby and J2K - very similar paddles.
The higher paddle certification fees will backfire. Smaller paddle companies won’t bother with certification. This in turn will allow them to make anything they want. Even more power and spin. Req play will suffer and those people playing against those super power paddles will have to play in the backcourt. No more kitchen.
Get outta here w that Chicken Little nonsense. Trust me, 4.0+ players are still using dinks, drops, resets. But if you can't serve, return, drive and counter with power you're missing out.

I think we are going to see a ton of changes next year, more honeycomb variations that we started seeing this year with Paddletek, Apes, and Vatic. Add on the TruFoam from CRBN is coming (we hope/think/speculate). From what I understand, this is totally different manufacturing not falling under any of the current gen versions.. And I can’t imagine prices not going up. Factor in political changes coming and tariffs almost certainly being made against China…

LOL
He’s seen things
Imagine recording with him for an hour 🫡🫡🫡
Sorry guys! I guess the 1000 yard stare they drill into stays 😂
HPC is killing it. They have multiple big hits. J2K. J3K Pro. J2Ti. Their best paddle imo is the original J3. Still rocking that.
Tell us more about the CRBN! Worth the wait? Any release date?
Paddletek Bantam 14.3 should be in the mix for paddle of the year
Excellent job on this. Well thought out and very relevant opinions
Very well thought out video.
Yall aren’t lying about the Friday paddles! All the seniors in my area have Friday paddles
Friday knows how to run ads and they seem to have a big budget. Combine that with a good enough paddle at a good price and you see them in a lot of players hands ha.

Yes, 100%. As the consumer durability is what we need. If we keep asking for it it’ll come!
Enjoy the podcast. This video gave me good advice to buy a paddle.
In this time of power paddles, where does the CRBN’s slide in? Are they still power paddles or more all court now?
All court. They wouldn’t have been power 6 months ago either.
@ how about the Spartus Olympus? How does its poer compare to the likes of the padletek TKO and rombus?
Hurache jelly bean for me. 🎉

Nope

Neonic needs to enter the chat for best bang for your buck, under-rated, and company riser. ✌️
I tried an engage paddle the other day and it felt really good, but I hate the target graphic on their paddles.
I think Engage has good paddles but they do seem to be getting used less and less each year.

I’m anti on 11.six.24. I was going to try some of their stuff on the 11/06/24 date sale. It sold out in 1 minute. Felt like the old Black Friday ad with an amazing plasma TV deal - fine print: only 2 available.
Yet I know several people who got one that day including myself.
Boo to the bottled water
I started playing pickleball this year, went a little crazy on the paddle testing and buying.
I own the following:
Shogun (bought new, sold to a friend)
Fat boy (bought new, don’t like it)
Ruby 16mm (bought used)
Mod ta-15 14mm (bought new)
Ace heart (new)
Ace spade (bought used, traded it and bought a new one, easily one of my favorites)
Proton series 3 (new, top 3 favorite)
Series 4 (new, my favorite)
CRBN 3X (new, sold to a friend bc they loved it, I was like whatever about it honestly
Ripple 14mm (used, it’s insane but I haven’t gotten my play down with it yet. Lots of life left on it too
I love that you got into paddles so quickly! I enjoyed reading your paddle journey.
Has anyone ever worn thru Proton nanotack coating?
Legend has it that one person did but there was a layer of pine tar underneath 😂
I had a friend where it turned to a scale buildup. It's super nasty.
@daltonhess4627 do you know how long it took?

Good takes. The paddle testing changes everything and influences exactly what you just said. It’s going to be an interesting year.
The J2K would not have succeeded without the the Ruby paving the way for
