Why don't you love Wicked? It's like some people have forgotten how to understand musicals, lyrics and songs.. How miserable u r not to like songs and dancing.. I WILL NEVER understand disrespect of Wicked..
no matter what happens moving forward, i’ve loved seeing film twitter and youtubers crash out over wicked being nominated for cinematography. i hope it wins just to piss people off.
omg I wish i could be where you are, bc I just wanna throw hands lol. I will die on the hill that most of them just hate things that are a) popular with audiences that aren't them and b) fundamentally don't understand the musical art form and why many of the choices they hate are actually considered and very important homages
@@reneepope-munro8115 dune 2 was popular and people loved it, EEAAO was popular and people loved it. LaLa Land is a musical that people loved, singing in the rain, mamma mia, west side story, tick tick boom. If a musical is well done itll be well liked. Every single post about chicago and catherine zeta jones gets 1k retweets every time. Just because people don't like 1 musical it doesn't mean people dislike all musicals and there are many popular films that people love
I feel like either this will be the Oscar 10 or something like September 5 or A Real Pain (i.e. The other Searchlight movie) makes it instead Also, don’t know if SAG will do it, but I’ll love them if they went for Hugh Grant coz that performance slapped
lol it is clear you guys don’t love musicals. That is fine, art id subjective, but that doesn’t play well to people who watch your channel that do love musicals. I mean all they hear is you rolling your eyes when Wicked or Emilia Perez is announced lol
Actually not true at all!!!! I’m an 8/10 on Wicked and a 7/10 on Emilia Pérez. Our reviews are up on our podcast for both where you can hear all my detailed thoughts. Gio though, is definitely lower on both of those.
@NextBestPicture they complain that people don't like wicked because its popular yet everyone loves Chicago. Kneecap is a film that you could even describe as a musical and that was well received this year
Still waiting for someone to recognize the year's best film Daddio. I'm actually to the point of being sick of The Substance. It's fine, like a total mild thumbs down, but this is getting ridiculous. Also very disappointed to see Saoirse be snubbed in both categories. Lame lame lame...
Filmtwt/movie bros hating on Wicked's cinematography is SOOOOOO TIIIIIIRED. We get it, you din't like the TINY handful of shots with back lighting. Okay, and? Even if I give you that (it didn't bother me for a literal second), my single favourite moment in the film was the sequence in Wizard and I where Elphaba's skin tone is altered by prism glass as she is seeing "de-greenify you". That moment was FAR more powerful than the 15 seconds of blown out light. Also, what's your beef with the screenplay? Do you KNOW how almost impossible it is to adapt a musical for screen, and how well WH did with that Herculean task? My god, the snobbery and lack of understanding of the art form of musicals is galling.
@ he gives MAJOR “I refuse to understand or appreciate why musicals are a thing” energy and it’s icky and exhausting, It comes off as very closed-minded and has whiffs of devaluing of genres that are predominantly enjoyed by women and queer men.
@ I know for a fact he adored West Side Story, La La Land, Tick Tick Boom & Moulin Rouge. Can’t think of any others but he definitely doesn’t hate musicals. He just happened to despise Emilia Perez and is lukewarm on Wicked.
@ I’ll take your word for it hehe. I’m m just SO over the general dismissal of Wicked, and this response was the straw that broke the back lol. I will note that the musicals you mention are very much male focused, which I think is also notable. But don’t personally consider La La Land to be a musical tho
Fernanda Torres’ absence drove me mad
I’m not a big fan of Wicked or Emilia Perez I’m thrilled for
A Complete Unknown
& Timothee & Ed Norton.

Miley Cyrus (Beautiful That Way) is winning all trophies especially the Oscar. 😍😍
How do you feel about The Substance getting into Editing?
It deserves to not only be there BUT WIN. I’m annoyed may groups haven’t recognized that yet.
Felicity Jones missing has me worried
Slightly but I still think she makes it at Oscar
A Complete Unknown is on 70 on Metacritic, one behind Emilia Perez and two behind Wicked which both have multiple noms
no matter what happens moving forward, i’ve loved seeing film twitter and youtubers crash out over wicked being nominated for cinematography. i hope it wins just to piss people off.
I kind of feel that might be what’s happening tbh

With dune out there? Impossible bruh

I have a feeling this isn’t the last time we’ve seen Grant

people loved lalaland and west side story.

Saoirse definitely deserves better
The hatred for musicals woah..wicked was spectacular. Maybe the cinematography aint the best, but the acting and other technical categories are great!
I personally love Wicked. Like Emilia Perez. Don’t love it. Gio on the other hand…
@NextBestPicture well people have their preferences but I don't understand who anyone can hate musicals..it's the best.
@ when done right they’re euphoric!!!

*raises hand* as a longtime lover of the show, I personally thought they did a great job with the screenplay! Gio is the one who is more mixed on it.

@ I don’t disagree with you but I also can’t fully speak for him either
Guys ACU costs more than ARP so Searchlight probably wants to make some money back
True!
