Paddletek has knocked it out of the park this year! I'm sure ALW and ESQ are great, but my preference is the elongated shape so TKO-CX would be my pick. Looking forward to the Fire and accessories review!
Hey Matthew, great review! I'm actually very surprised you had recommended the 12.7 ESQ-C for a control oriented player as that is pretty widely agreed on to be the poppiest of the two paddles; as stated by JohnKew and Pickleball Pursuit. They even mentioned the pop was noticeably greater for the 12.7, with the 14.3 being very poppy in its own right but the 12.7 was on another level. Could you let me know what factors could have played in to make you feel that the 14.3 was hotter? I myself bought both thicknesses and went with the 14.3 after about 20 games with both paddles and had the same conclusion as Luis from Pickleball Pursuit in that the 12.7 was just over the top in terms of pop and the 14.3 was in a great spot in terms of balance but still had lots of heat however but more controllable with the thicker and softer feel. I am a 4.5 player at best and I consider myself as someone like you with a heavy control oriented playstyle, as well as having above average touch, and still to me that 12.7 was outrageously hot! Would love your opinion of what factors could play have played into our difference in opinion. Thank you!
For sure! I talk about it in the vid, but I think the 14.3 is so far from being control-oriented, I’d choose the 12.7 for the hand speed bump. If I’m going to be a banger, I want to be fast at it. And they’re all poppy. But the 14.3 version does have more swing to it, and I’d say more power on bigger swings. And to clarify, the 12.7 rec is for a control-leaning player (or anyone else) that wants to start banging and play a power-oriented game. If you’re a control player who wants to stay focused on a control game, there are many other better options IMO.
@@MatthewKPickleball Thank you for the response. I'm confused on one aspect. You said you toned down the pop of the 14.3 by adding weight down low, but yet you kept the 12.7 stock and didn't feel the need to tone down the pop. The 12.7 is the one that has objectively the most pop, so this did not make sense to me. The 12.7 has slightly toned down power when driving, but still nonetheless harder to reset/dink with because of it's higher pop so I'm confused on why you feel that the 14.3 is farther from the control spectrum than the 12.7. Or is the reasoning because since both paddles are so high in the power/pop aspect it's better to go all gas and no brakes with the 12.7? Am I misunderstanding something?
All gas. I know it’s a long vid, so all good. But I explain that I tested the 12.7 ESQ after testing the 14.3 ESQ (weighted) and 12.7 ALW (weighted), and I had adjusted my play style to be pretty much full banger by the time I got to the other two. And by then, I wasn’t concerned about the pop/adding weight because I wasn’t focused on dinking at all. I will say it has been quite an adjustment switching back to other paddles, though, as the “all gas” approach doesn’t work universally for me-the PaddleTeks really let you get an arch on drives that most other paddles drill right into the net. Also, to be clear, the 14.3 ESQ is the closest of the four to all-court-but it’s still not the best option for folks wanting a control-focused game IMO.
@@MatthewKPickleball I understand now! Thanks for the insight. I would like to present my 2 cents on this though. As someone who has been using this paddle non-stop for 2 months now, my experience with the 14.3 has been similar to yours in that that I've learned to play a more aggressive game to accentuate the strengths of the paddle, however you can still do very well in the soft game when you really dial the paddle in; which is why I preferred it over the 12.7 where I felt like it was a ticking time bomb where I had to get successful speed-ups with flicks/rolls before my soft game betrays me with tough resets and whatnot. My soft game is as good as it has ever been even compared to my control paddles because I've learned to let the paddle do a lot of the work with it's pop/power and stable sweet spot after adding weight on the sides (My ESQ-C came 7.7 stock which is just too light for me), while still having similar putaway power to the 12.7. So, my point is that with the 14.3 you have the option to access a unique duality if you dial the paddle in enough; and it's worked for me, where as the 12.7 I couldn't access that duality and had to do the all gas no brakes approach; which no doubt was fun but I just couldn't feel competitive enough in my soft game. thanks a lot for your responses
@@striker476 For sure! I think our thoughts are pretty aligned! If you want a nuanced game with a control aspect to it, I agree the 14.3 ESQ is the one to pick. However, I still wouldn't recommend it to folks that aren't at least a little bit advanced.
Just got the ALW-C 14mm 2 weeks ago. Took 1 game to adjust to it, and I am now loving it. Coming from a 6.0 DBD 16mm and notice a the increase in pop & power immediately, but have quickly been able to adjust my soft game to also work. Great review. Thanks for posting
The TKO-C 12.7 is an amazing paddle with great power and feel. It’s improved and brought more excitement to my games. I would love to get the 12.7 ESQ-C for a larger sweet spot and longer handle since I have a 2-handed backhand.
DITTO. I have and love TKO-C 12.7, I don't know what they put in the sauce but it works and I agree. Similarly, I am dying to know how the 12.7 ESQ compares, does anyone know of a comparison review ? Thanks for the fantastic review.
I’ve always played similar to you, control oriented, slow the game down, get to the kitchen and dink. So when I recently picked up the ModTA I was thinking I would hate it, but ended up playing more aggressive, like a banger, and actually enjoyed it, which surprised me since I was doing pretty well. With that said, I’d love to get my hands on an ESQ 12.7. That lightness of hand with a standard/wide body shape which I have been gravitating towards recently, gets me excited about this paddle! Thanks for the awesome breakdown Matt, as always great video!
PaddleTek latest cores have the industry scrambling to copy their ability to generate power without trampoline foam. The only reason I haven’t jumped on the bandwagon is the smaller sweet spot. If I was going to get one, I’d go all in with the ESQ in the 12.7 mm form. White and purple looks sweet… so just give me your favorite version! I want to experience that lightweight power, deadly flicks at the net!
As a control player, I wanted to hear your original thoughts more than the known facts. I didn’t get any until 12:30. Maybe that’s why the video is so long. I watched the whole thing anyways. Thanks for the review.
The ESQ 12.7 seems a lot better to me than the ALW simply because I like longer handles. I really think 5.5” should be the standard moving forward for any paddle looking to be competitive.
The 12.7 ESQ-C is an amazing paddle and would be my pick in this line up. It hits like a rocket similar to the TKO-C, but having a larger sweet spot "fixes" what I didn't like about the TKO series. In comparison to the ALW, I like the ESQ-C for having a slightly longer handle. It's impressive how much this paddle can perform on Gen 1 construction.
I demoed both esq ‘s and fell in love with 12.7. The power pop and spin are a great fit to my aggressive game style! Great job!! Paddeltek. Patrick conners
Let’s goo! I’ve worn down my TKO 14.3 so this would be an awesome upgrade. Thanks for doing such a thorough review & thanks for doing the giveaway! I’d love the ESQ-C 14.3.

I would like the esqc 12.7mm widebody. I am a Tennis and racquet ball player and probably would have no problem with the power. Would love this as a go to when I am wanting power

Esq-C 12.7mm sounds nice cuz i dont know if i can handle the full throttle power haha. The ESQ-C 14.3 seems like a great paddle if you're just getting into the Bantam line. More than enough firepower to get the job done but it doesn't sacrifice too much on maneuverability, stability and control. Plus, the 5.5" handle is neither too long nor too short.
I’ll keep that in mind! There are some other giveaways still going from my previous vids that don’t require Instagram in case you want to go for those. Some good Honolulu paddles that haven’t been raffled off yet.

@MatthewKPickleball I wonder why they are so tough to get??
@@adamsalafia6324 They're just tough for me to get review units. But if you ever purchase from them, make sure to use promo code MATTHEWK. That might help me get the future releases! Haha
What does esq stand for, guess I'm most excited about its 12.7 version, cause its light
It stands for esquire. That’s also my favorite!
I would like to try the 12.7 ESC if I am lucky enough to win.
The ESQ-C 14.3 seems like a great paddle if you're just getting into the Bantam line. More than enough firepower to get the job done but it doesn't sacrifice too much on maneuverability, stability and control. Plus, the 5.5" handle is neither too long nor too short.
ESQ-C 12.7mm
I’d love to try one, but I know I wouldn’t play well with one.
I feel ya!
@ it’s hard when you live in the middle of no where and everyone has the same paddles. Everyone out by me runs Holbrook or Selkirk
@@haydenlipsey14 Hopefully, some will show up at open play in your area. They're getting pretty popular. 🤞
I’m thinking the ESQ-12.7 for me
ALW paddle she's the queen
14.3mm esq is my dream
I don't have Instagram :(
🥺
There are some other giveaways going with my previous vids that you can enter without Instagram. Sorry about that for this one!
Esq 12.7 because you say so
😆
ESQ 12.7 because I want to play in the dark side.
Standard shape sucks for me
They’re not for everyone!
Just giving my 2 cents, not everyone has instagram… try not to have so many requirements just to enter. ☹️
I’ll keep that in mind! There are some other giveaways still going from my previous vids that don’t require Instagram in case you want to go for those. Some good Honolulu paddles that haven’t been raffled off yet.
ESQ-C because who isn’t part of Koop nation?
