I love Chris, he is so humble, well-spoken, and sweet! He brought the wonder of space exploration to the masses. He looks so handsome here. It is nice to see how well he recovered from his many days on the space station! He is my biggest Canadian hero and I would love to meet him. I just finished reading his book, it was amazing! I have a much greater appreciation of what astronauts go through than ever before. This is a man who lives in the power of now and enjoys every moment. Every person who loves space should read his book. It is a whole philosophy on how to be happy, whatever you choose to do with your life. He came back to earth with such a deep understanding of how beautiful and precious we all are!
He is one of the coolest people currently living on this planet. Such an intelligent and wise person, great speaker. Also he is so passionate about what he is doing, so dedicated. The way he describes all experience with colours and emotions. If somehow we will meet another intelligent life form somewhere in the dark of space I want this man to represent humanity and be a face of us. "We are not machines exploring the universe, we are people" - C.Hadfield
I have a signed copy of an astronauts guide to life on earth that I got for Christmas. My grandma waited in line for hours to get it for me. She explained to me how he actually took the time to talk with the people he meets. And to that I must say that I really look up to him not only as an astronaut, but as a really nice man. Thank you Chris Hadfield.
What a treat to hear him voice his thoughts on his experience. He is so eloquent. I was lucky enough to hear him speak in person when he visited my school as a kid. Truly an experience I will never forget.
That's such a heavy quote from his son about the media replays. Makes you feel terrible for his family in that regard, can't imagine the sacrifice families endure so that these gents can pursue their dream. Much of a complete loss to humanity as it is for Cmdr Hadfield to retire, I'm happy he's able to focus more on his family now.
How is it a loss for humanity? I know what you're getting at, but Chris Hadfield retiring also frees up the pedestal for another bold Canadian with the passion, determination, and ability to "carry the torch" and... to boldly go where no man has gone before.
Just my personal view on that. I found the way he communicated extremely fun and effective, almost the same as I felt Bill Nye impacted the science community. He's very human and admits to it easily, someone I feel I can relate to and yet admire. This doesn't at all discredit any other CSA (or NASA/ ESA/ JPA/ Russian) astronauts so much as exemplify the impression Commander Hadfield left upon me. Many other CSA astronauts do now get the chance to show us what they can do and make us proud and they're all qualified to do precisely that.
What a lucky lady his wife is. To be a girl friend at school and eventually share each other's life. For life. In the day and age, separation on even flimsy reasons are common place. To me, watching his interviews in itself, it's so inspirational. To get such a person as a life partner, she is so incredibly lucky. Very happy for her. He is handsome, smart, highly accomplished and a great human being. My hero. May God bless them with all happiness.
Seen a lot of interviews with Chris Hadfield, this one is by far the best. Great questions, very sympathetic host, well picked clips and pictures. Awesome job!
he is such a genius in so many areas and truly an inspiration, how can anybody top that? a big lesson i learned is to have big dreams paired with hard work.
George Stombo is just something else. A true treasure and thank you Mr. Hadfield for taking the time to share your experiences with the rest of the world.
I don't know how I feel about Strombo's interviewing style. On one hand, he seems genuinely interested in what the interviewee is saying, but he also seems a bit too intense. It's sort of a strange vibe.
Strombo is touchy-feely. He leans in at times, and other times he puts himself in a sideways lounge position in his chair like he's super relaxed and contemplative. Either way, he is demonstrative. He telegraphs his emotional state in a way you don't usually see in a TV host. Sometimes it bugs me. Sometimes it lets me know he is enthusiastic.
Really enjoyed watching this after reading his book. Learned a lot about being humble and committed to continually learning no matter who you are or where you are.
The interviewer has a kind of aggressive/awkward was of interviewing, watch at the beginning of the interview George has his hand on Chris's chair and is leaning in real close. Chris initially feels comfortable but then George draws him out and makes him come in close to talk.
Chris Hadfield represents a new era in the History of Humanity. When he finished his mission in the ISS with a video playing a guittar and singuing a David Bowie Song, there was many people emotioned.Hadfield and his friends got incredible myth in many topics, not only Astronomy. He opened the way to find a great peace for the world and the rest of the Universe.
I am proud to say I have been in Chris Hadfields home town. I lived in Milton Ontario for a few months and then moved just 20 minutes away and lived in a town very close to milton (Same area code) for 7 years and now settling were I am right now which is still only 30 minutes from Milton. It is so cool seeing such an impiring celebrity like Chris hadfield who grew up very close and very similar conditions were I grew up. Now I wonder if he is in my local phone book :P
Nobody knows or mentions his career before space exploration, one year he was the U.S. navy’s top fighter pilot, first westerner yo intercept a Russian war plane over North America and he test flew over 100 different types of aircraft. He’s actually the most interesting man on the planet, forget that old beer commercial guy, for real.
Such a great interview - This Astronaut is such a cool honest funny and intelligent dude..So inspirational to those who want to pursue a dream or want to learn about a real life experience in space. Amazing ...
I watched the TV version of the interview and am so glad I got to watch this longer version. I am sure George could have (and would have loved to have) spoken with Commander Hadfield for much longer. Man it must have been so hard for the editor(s) to cut the interview down for the GST show. George always does a great job. Thank you to Commander Chris Hadfield for his time and his insights.
Astronauts can be so distance in my opinion (partly I think because of the type of person it takes to be one), but Chris Hadfield was certainly a prominent figure that talked to the everyday person, and that is something that should be embraced because it helped make people aware of what the experiences are like up there if we were there too. Thanks for sharing.
This interview is amazing. I'm loving the depth their going into - the sheer strangeness of the existential experience, the awareness that you are both literally and figuratively "above it all" - I like how Chris describes how strange it is to be able to put his thumb over the world. Can you imagine? To be able to see things from top-down, instead of our usual down-up? Even the radiation levels at that altitude create the conditions for an unusual emotional and cognitive awareness. It adds to the effect of the surrealism of it all. Love also how he pointed out the importance of "staying connected", and with twitter and the internet that is possible now.
Does anyone know the name of the song that Chris is singing to his children at 10:49? Amazingly I can't seem to locate it online by searching for the lyrics he is singing.
The Samadhi does has highest form of consciousness. In Hindu mythology it's explained how to achieve that. Really this guy is inspiration to everyone. Science and passion takes you to next level
Okay, so I'm finally going to make this comment after all of the Chris Hadfield BINGE-watching I've done over the last month, LOL! For one, he's one of my favorite human beings ever. One of the greatest role models ever to come out of a womb, for lack of a better sentence (? LOL). Next, I've noticed that unlike many people who go on interview after interview (To promote something or what have you) I always get something NEW from this guy and I mean a whole new interview! Even when he repeats some of the same things, he makes every interview a new unit of time and fresh - EVERY time. I've never known another interviewee to accomplish this. The guy really is sort of slightly removed from this universe as some sort of us special superhero. That, I think pretty much sums up my feelings, so I'll end my already pretty outrageously-long comment here :-)
i was wondering if bowie saw the song or not. i'm a huge bowie fan, love the song, and love space and science and i'm canadian. it was really nice to have all those things come together in one video.
Saw the song? Chris Hadfield actually emailed and asked Bowie for his permission to cover the song before he even did it! Of course Bowie has seen the song. He's spoken personally to Chris Hadfield about it. After all Bowie is truly famous as its his song to have the first outer space music video! If anything Bowie greatly owes Chris Hadfield for that world wide recognition.
i said WAS wondering, meaning i don't anymore.....meaning you didn't need to reply. i wasn't asking a question, hence the reason there is no question mark at the end.
i can't start to imagine what its like to sleep up there having dreams and then waking up and being in space and every morning you realize you're in space
am i the only one who teared up at least 3-4 times in this clip? but the segments & questions move on so quickly that I can't pinpoint where and why. pretty powerful stuff. oh, and didn't realize shatner was so funny.
amazing interview... George is such a great host and Chris is someone to admire... in days that childern admire people like lady gaga and kanye west, humanity needs more people like Chris
Strombo rarely addressed his answers. It was almost as though he asked the question (granted, he seemed genuinely interested), and listened to him answering but as soon as Chris stopped talking, he just moved right along with another question.
Such an amazing individual. Thanks to him when I talk nerdy "space stuff" and geeky "aviation junk" people ask questions rather than roll their eyes and mumble "You're such a nerd." Yep, and I've always been proud of it.
I think that George is great at interviewing. He's leaning into the conversation he is having; interested in what the person (Cmdr Hadfield here) has to say. It's refreshing to see sincere passion. He also researches his subject and has great questions in the conversation.

im sure every serviceman, armed officer, skyscraper construction, skyscraper window cleaners kid feels the same.
Commander Hadfield --- the True Canadian HERO
Agreed!! Also a True Terran HERO!
"All you can do is your best, and you can't let yourself get driven crazy by things you aren't capable of doing." a great saying my a great man
one of the most informative interviews I have watched, fact he is so articulate is a plus,
you articulate well talking about things that you like the most!
This man. Just endless things to teach. A real inspiration

My hero.

I have to like pause this video every now and then and just marvel and process before moving on. Overview effect indeed. Thank you thank you Chris.
I just love everything about Colonol Hadfield. He's such an amazing, authentic, intelligent and peaceful human being.
Mr Hadfield speaks so well and has so much awesome stuff to talk about. I could listen to him all day.
Seen a lot of interviews with Chris Hadfield, this one is by far the best. Great questions, very sympathetic host, well picked clips and pictures. Awesome job!

We are fortunate thst Chris was on the station. A true science communicator.
Compelling interview. Chris Hadfield is an amazing human. Order of Canada, for sure.

like he does it for the money thats what i feel
His body language is aggressive. Chris looks uncomfortable repeatedly.
It makes me cringe just to watch it.
Fake interest, forced... I gess he didn't know enough about the man. His info was fed by producer. That's My guess
Totally agree...What a phony....
I want to get a Chris Hadfield’s poster for my room! What a legend
Chris's moustache could kick Chuck Norris' ass!
Mr.Hadfield is a true Canadian hero! Another big reason why I'm a proud Canadian! Great interview!
And although I live in Dallas Texas, I'm a proud born-again Canadian partly because of this man!
What makes this guy a hero ?
Boy George made music videos and nobody referred to him as a hero...
"It's almost womb-like"
"I don't remember"
4:08 Chris made a dad joke and couldn't contain himself for 10 seconds
Really enjoyed watching this after reading his book. Learned a lot about being humble and committed to continually learning no matter who you are or where you are.

Very aggressive body language. I struggle to watch this video. Chris is obviously a well trained astronaut, but still looks uncomfortable.
I noticed that too. He tries to appear Empathetic and kind but his questions show he’s trying to drum up controversy.
Give the man some space bro! Much thanks for the video though :)
you would think he'd have enough space in his life
Chris Hadfield you're an inspiration to young Canadians everywhere! You made it cool to be studying science!
Chris Hadfield represents a new era in the History of Humanity. When he finished his mission in the ISS with a video playing a guittar and singuing a David Bowie Song, there was many people emotioned.Hadfield and his friends got incredible myth in many topics, not only Astronomy. He opened the way to find a great peace for the world and the rest of the Universe.
for someone who's reached incredible heights, he's pretty down to earth.
What a fantastic interview! Thank you!
Inspirational interview!
I just heard that Chris Hadfield will be at Bolen Books Saturday afternoon!
George clearly admires this guy... he is almost literally on his lip!
"There's no problem so bad, you can't make it worse" ... brilliant man !
The interview was fantastic! Chris Hadfield is a great and inspiring person!
Love how he pauses to think before answering. Really love him.
What a fantastic interview. Chris Hadfield is a warm and interesting man. I am so impressed with his career!!!!

Not a single dislike! pll with interest of Hadfield and space got it right!
He is just a phenomenal human being! I can't explain how much respect and interest I have in that man!
What an amazing man. Thanks for sharing!

Brilliant stuff, all of it. And George, I love your interview style.
I think this the interview I most enjoyed in my life
Thumbs Up for Chris Hadfield!!

Such a great guy, both as a professional and as a person. Wish he goes back up there for more great experiences.
Great interview.
When he talked about smiling so much it hurt, I thought of Jeb.
Glorious
Jebediah for the win :D
This interview is amazing. Great interview with a cool guy - very thought stimulating. I am so envious of him, he must feel so complete.
ouaou the thing he said about the flashes you randomly see when you sleep in space is the coolest thing ever.amazing person.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Chris Hadfield, the Canadian "Mr Spaceman"...thanks Chris!!!
For someone who's been to space he's really Down to Earth
you are my hero ,for having balls to shear your adventures with us,many people know more and are interested in space
Geez, this guy is a wealth of knowledge. I'm buying this book :)
It is a brilliant book, highly recommended.
Great interview! Love The Hour
This needs more views!
Fantastic...thank you so much...a keeper...a sharer..WOW!
He is awesome and incredible guy experiences interview, loved it.

to be clear, i'm not being a dick, i'm just saying i think what i was meaning to say was lost in the text.
mrb3n Bowie was already world famous. :P I'd say they helped each other.
timmy47
You didnt asked a question..so why did you make a comment that looked like a question? Oh right..youre dumb as fuck..
What a great guy!
I hope this man inspires the next generation of future astronauts. He sure has me inspired...
Such an amazing person.
He's been where most people can only dream of going.
Where do most people dream of going ?
Wonderful interview, not often anyone these days has anything worth listening to sadly. He does.
Thank Chris for being the space-man of our age
That is just an amazing human being right there....
This interview needs to be 5 hours longer.
This guy is a fucking hero.
+Anonymous Mystery Hahah yeah. Wtf?
i can't start to imagine what its like to sleep up there having dreams and then waking up and being in space and every morning you realize you're in space
Met him yesterday. Truly awesome individual.
I've met two American astronauts that went to space. Sally Ride was one. I won't mention the other. Chris is the coolest of them all.
I just love this guy. He is such a realist.
Watching this, was an absolute privilege
am i the only one who teared up at least 3-4 times in this clip?
but the segments & questions move on so quickly that I can't pinpoint where and why.
pretty powerful stuff.
oh, and didn't realize shatner was so funny.
Strombo is the best! Chrish Hadfield is Awesome!
Incredible! A real Canadian hero, inspiration & 100% genuine badass!!!
“Sometimes I wonder if there is consciousness here”
amazing interview... George is such a great host and Chris is someone to admire... in days that childern admire people like lady gaga and kanye west, humanity needs more people like Chris
I feel so humbled.
*He is so genuine* what a lad !!!!!!
Strombo rarely addressed his answers. It was almost as though he asked the question (granted, he seemed genuinely interested), and listened to him answering but as soon as Chris stopped talking, he just moved right along with another question.
George and Chris all the Croatians of Canada salute you
CroMarduk you mean CANADIANS of Croatian origin ?
***** that too
Such an amazing individual. Thanks to him when I talk nerdy "space stuff" and geeky "aviation junk" people ask questions rather than roll their eyes and mumble "You're such a nerd." Yep, and I've always been proud of it.
Does anyone else think george is really animated? And he never sits still.
I think that George is great at interviewing. He's leaning into the conversation he is having; interested in what the person (Cmdr Hadfield here) has to say. It's refreshing to see sincere passion. He also researches his subject and has great questions in the conversation.
Shhh! I'm Watching Silent Films.
The man definitely takes genuine interviews, he's confident to be his own kind of reporter.
He's still wearing his watch super loose like in space.
winterwolf211 That's somehow very poetic
winterwolf211 you're gonna make me cry
"Best arm in the business" - #Truthbomb
Powerful Chris Hadfield
Enjoyed!
21:42 That fake laugh though...
I've been to one of these shoots, theres a lot of fake laughs (I was in the audience for idris elba)
+Fenix William I always heard that there is a person with a sign that says "laugh" on it lol
i LOVE chris hatfield.
Why does George has to go so deep into very emotional questions.
What an incredible person.
He deserves the Nobel Badass Prize.
