I never get tired of listening to Neil talk. I love his energy and in the end his interviews are the best for a 'shy' guy who does not like to do interviews. He actually had so much to say and was actually very transparent.

As he mentions being a warm-up act... It was 1976 when the headliner the Atlanta Rhythm Section canceled and the warm-up act who I've never heard of before... RUSH took the show at the Hammond Civic center in Northwest Indiana. Needless to say I bought a RUSH t-shirt that night... 34 shows and four decades later, The excitement and virtuosity they always brought live was the most consistent thing throughout my life. Well done indeed Professor!

I was fortunate enough to see them during that Moving Pictures tour when he claims everything came together for them. I was 17 then and it blew me away. I couldn't believe so much sound came from just 3 guys. Ok, 2 guys and one Octopus. LOL. I have been a fan ever since.

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
    Gary

Didn't we all see Rush live? Surely a right of passage for generations of Young Canadians (pun intended - the punks will know). Deeply appreciated and well-known world wide but no greater love, and fan base, than we, the home team. Thank you Neil, Geddy, and Alex for being the soundtrack of so many of our lives. You always made me proud when a far-flung local said, "Oh, yes, you're from Canada...so is Rush, right?"

Neil is notoriously shy, but give him a chance to talk about an issue he's passionate about, and he'll be the friendliest person in the world and talk your ear off. It's actually a trait that many shy people like me share.

Too many music critics are more interested in trying to show how clever and cool they think they are than in actually talking about music. They get so far up their own asses they come to conflate their subjective opinions with objective facts. Some of the negative opinions I've encountered regarding Rush lyrics are clearly focused on things Neil wrote when he was in his early to mid 20s, and seem totally ignorant of how his writing matured over the years.

What a great guy you can tell he's introverted and he's just trying to get the interview over with so he can have peace and quiet. After being the world's greatest drummer for so long of course you're inundated with interviews and people hounding you all the time that's the reason I think he ran out of the stadium I'm at the final show before he died. He was just tired of being hounded all the time. When you're the best drummer in the world I mean come on man you got everybody and their grandmother following you around trying to ask you questions and the man is very private and you can tell by this interview he's just trying to get it over with
