I'm getting the ROG Ally original. The ROG Ally X is better, but not enough to justify the £300 price difference, as the performance difference in games is very small.

I didn't really need a rog ally because i have a gaming pc. However, I'm a nerd and I wanted one to tinker with. I don't think I could justify spending 800+$ on it. I found a lightly used one(original Z1 extreme model) on marketplace, 2tb, for 350. It's been fun messing around with the last 2-3 days. It will be nice for future road trips and getaways where I wish I had my gaming pc, lol. I do see how people could use this as their only device, but imo it's not a replacement for a desktop gaming pc(yet) I think in a few more years it's going to be hard to justify building a gaming pc and dedicating all that space, when you can just buy one for a comparable price that you can take wherever you want. I like the future honestly, it doesn't bother me one bit lol. Games I've tested that seem to work really well at 1080p low-med settings at 30 watt tdp, Diablo 4, Dreamlight Valley, GoW, Hogwarts Legacy(with an engine tweak to fix stutter), Spiderman Remastered. The one game I was surprised to have trouble with however, is Kingdomhearts 1.5-2.5 hd remastered. Apparently there is a memory leak bug for z1 extreme devices, not sure if there is a community fix, but I think they did note recently that they're aware of the crashing problems that game has. I'd love to hear your guys' lists of works/doesn't work!
Hey man, just a humble tip: it would be nice if you put the performance overlay in a zoomed-in square maybe beneath each device's name for those of us who watch your videos on our phones the numbers and letters are so tiny I can't really see nothing lol. Keep it up ❤
I had a z1e and took it back to get the X after the sd card slot gave out.i had a warranty so I just payed the difference which was like $150 or something lol.I got lucky with the warranty at bestbuy but I will say I was doubting it and thought it was a money grab but nah it’s a change.The controls,The feel,The battery,The look,the ram.. I just wish the older silicone cases for cause i invested in allot of them lol.I got the all black one for the x and I like the look better.I didn’t know about how easy it was to change sticks,thank you for that info.I also see it’s easier to swap harddrive and now can get a 2280 without the adapter and all.I make beats on my Rog and do allot of work on it also so it’s more then a gaming device.I wish they put a 2tb in there for the price but I can’t complain I had a z1e for 6 months and then got the X for $150 ..Great device and I’m loving technology 😂 I’d like to do a in studio video of what it can do and talk about it.I make make a TH-cam vid and start something 🤷♂️
@@midasgamespace I would say the main thing that makes the steam deck OLED superior is the screen? What are your thoughts on that? If the ally x had an OLED screen I would have bought it without even thinking 🤣
The experience on the SteamDeck OLED is still a little bit better and the OLED screen is stunning. But I decided for ROG Ally because performance is more important for me to enjoy demanding games on 1080 instead of playing them in 720 on a OLED screen. On SteamDeck, you won’t run many games, no FC/FIFA, no Madden and have to tinker to get a lot of games run. When they run, the experience is great and more console like on the Steam Deck. But ASUS surprised me, because they update their Armory Crate app very constantly.
It’s too dam expensive I believe asus should have made a lower tier model less ram and battery and a 256 gb even tho that’s the selling point asus brags about but to compete with valve I think it should be just like Apple they have a lineup and it’s consumer friendly to those who want to enter the pc echo chamber lol like around $599 usd nice production bro
Performance is the least exciting upgrade tbh. Battery life, USB4,new SSD type and ergonomics is where it’s at 👌🏾 If you’re okay with those on the original model, there not much reason to upgrade
@@synonymoususer7321 He literally said up front at the beginning of the video that it is not a huge performance boost on the Ally X. The video was mainly about all the other well needed upgrades to the OG Ally. I will be upgrading from the OG Ally to the X in the next month or so.

That difference is barely noticeable but my Rog Ally can only last about 2-3 levels in DMC5 so, definitely worth an upgrade.
