  • A short video showing how to remove the dash an International Scout 800. I did this so I could install an electric windshield wiper conversion kit for my trip across the country.
Picked this Scout up in Aniak Alaska about 2 years ago and pulled it down the frozen Kuskokwim River to Bethel AK. Been working on it slowly but I retire in 8 days so it's time to make the push to get this thing going. Like, subscribe and watch the "fun".

My pleasure. Novice here too but there’s no better vehicle to learn on. Great community of support for us all.

Replacing my heater tubes. This was helpful to see I wasn't missing anything. I am curious how in the heck did IH install this dash at the factory!

Glad it was helpful. And about the tubes, I know right, they were a pain. Plus mine are original and quite brittle. I will admit to cracking it in one place and using a little redneck chrome (duct tape) to fix it. It was camo duct tape so you probably can't even see it. :)

What are you using for a rear seat?

Funny you noticed. Yes it’s “different” 😆 It’s a rear seat out of a 69 Jeepster Commando I found at the dump. Made a bracket out of some angle iron from a set of bed rails I found at the dump and a couple small pieces of sheet metal I bent with a vice and a big hammer. I had already shipped my welder so it’s all bolted together. Maybe I’ll add some of the footage to a little walk around of the scout when I get back up to bring it across country.

Do you have to pull heater to remove dash?

I did pull it. Not positive you have to but I suspect it will be in the way if you don’t. It would probably be worth a try not to remove it but it is certainly not hard to remove. It’s only a couple screws to drop that vent distribution box out of the way. Careful with the vent pipes that are connected. They are likely as brittle as mine were. One of mine cracked while I was putting it back in. But since I don’t have a heater connected I just didn’t worry about it.
