Quick update since this podcast was recorded...Prior Service (not Retrainees) NOW ATTEND SW Prep prior to attending A&S.

Do prior service members retain rank of E5 when joining the AF or have to attend AF BMT?

This guy, MSgt Gann, is the real deal. I just had a great phone conversation with him about a possible future in AFSPECWAR. He didn’t have to take the time to talk to me but he did and that means so much. He’s also very straightforward. You guys are lucky to have him as an asset and we are lucky to have y’all to guide us in our decision making process and for introducing us to major players we need to know in the recruiting process!

Glad to see more information for retraining. I didnt know a PTL or Supervisor could administer a PAST. MyPers doesnt give much guidence on the requirements needed for packages.
If approved, I'd galdly volunteer to go to prep first. I know the expectations set for me before getting to Indoc, but prep has so much information that I'd love to learn plus, thats 8 weeks of working on your weaknesses FULL-TIME instead of trying to fit it in around family, work, and other Air Force responsibilities.

Small correction: It's A&S now, not Indoc.

I was hoping to do BMT again because it’s been over 10 years since I’ve been in the Military but apparently no BMT for Prior Service. Hopefully at least get to go through SW Prep before A & S!

What entails the PAST test? I thought I was prepared to enlist SERE a few years ago, however my recruiter didn’t have a lot of crucial information for me, so it left me greatly underprepared-although I’ve never taken the PAST. After finding this podcast and consistently asking questions and doing research, I can confidently say I would have failed hard.
I’m 26 now, compared to the first time I talked to a recruiter at 23, and it’s still my dream to join the AFSPECWAR as a SERE specialist and help my team to go above and beyond expectations to help/defend others.
I’m from WV, luckily allowing the opportunity for a lot of varying terrain and conditions to train. Im still in college, too, so I still have around 1 1/2 to 2 years of time to prepare to meet these goals and try to break any boundaries. I picked up the Kaplan ASVAB prep plus and I’ve been studying it as well as some other necessary skills I need to work on. I try to go to the gym and run everyday because I’m also trying to lose weight.
Thanks to this podcast, I can prepare better for this, even if I don’t know it all. There is always time to grow and learn. I make mistakes in everyday life and I can say like hell that I would definitely give it my all to push through no matter what it takes.

If you pass AFSOC assessment & selection and then complete your initial active duty contract can you rejoin AFSOC after you switch into a different career field outside of AFSOC (Big Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines) etc.? If so, what does the process look like, and what are possible limitations?

Is it difficult for someone to ETS them come back in for a SOF job? Retraining into itself is kind of trash in comparison to new recruits.
