Bought the Tundra Limited double cab 5.7L, with the trade-in of my 9 year old 4Runner I couldn't be happier. Tow my RV trailer with it. Going to Alaska next year.
David Scott *sarcasm* true, but my dad's eleven year old one could...doi! Ok sorry i couldn't resist the opportunity to be a smartass. Have a nice day/evening/existence! :D
Love my '18 Tundra. I bought my 1st Toyota 4x4 in 1993, and have owned one ever since. I chose the SR5 4x4 in blue, added Bilstein 6112 COs, the TRD dual exhaust, and threw on a set of bronze Method Roost wheels wrapped with Nitto Ridge Grapplers. My "DX Truck" & Tacos were great, but I'm a Tundra covert now...most likely for good. :)
This video is encouraging for me. We just bought a 2017 Tundra double-cab SR5, TRD package, but not a Pro. It is absolutely a great truck for highway cruising, I love it already. My wife is saying the Tundra is too big to take off roading; and is insisting we take our 2002 Tacoma on the rough trails instead. (208,000 miles on original engine-It has been a good truck even if it died tomorrow.) At least if the Tacoma broke down, we could tow it back home with the Tundra. This video shows the Tundra is no Cream-puff, but is a serious off-road vehicle. In fact, we probably wouldn't do a rock crawl as bad as you show. (She wouldn't let me do it anyway.) As far as the snow, I'd probably just wait a few more weeks and come back after it melted. I'm going to show her this video, and maybe she'll change her mind.
You should use 4LOW when you're off road. It will save you fuel because you won't need so much throttle input to get past obstacles, and it's much more gentle on the drive train. Great vid though. Looks like you had a great time!
These guys always seem to get the Japanese vehicles stuck or act as if the vehicle is struggling to climb their little dirt road...terrible reviews unless it's American.
Tundra is assembled in TX, there are toyota plants all over the us, there are plants all over japan. They are a Japanese company but the vehicles you buy are made right here in america.
josephboot1 I noticed at 3:47 into the video he said traction control kicked in. He can't even figure out how to disable traction control and yet here he is doing truck reviews! It is comparable to my +80 year old grand father "off-roading" especially this guy hahaha. I'm certain I have seen the others call him out on it. I find this to be mediocre and biased especially since he is a Raptor fan boy. I just stopped the video at 3:48 because of how cringe worthy it is to see this.
You've mentioned your dirt bike before- what do you ride? You should check out slaughterhouse gulch some time. Pretty quick trail with a couple nasty hill climbs for bikes- mud pits and some rocky-ish climbs for 4X4s.
I think this should be your new off road trail for reviews. That normal trail just doesnt seem that challenging on video. But Ive never been on it so maybe its challenges just dont come through well on video. I think a FX4, Rebel, TRD Pro mashup on this trail would be a great video.
It seems that the only downside of this truck is the fuel economy compare to the big 3 as i hear on forum well if its reliable as my tacoma 2006 ill trade for it
US toyota should offer optional frames , the C frame channel ( stranded ) & the BOXED frame for their tundra trucks specially if someone taking a TRD model .
The bfg’s seem to make a huge difference. I’m torn in the tundra or Tacoma. I think the tundra is probably better in every way except off road. When I had a ram 1500 I kinda wanted something smaller. I’m so torn. The deep bed in the tundra is way nicer than the shallow Tacoma. Any suggestions?
Good stuff. Love the off road truck videos (especially Raptor videos since that's my truck, but the Toyota's not bad). Where is this trail? I'd like to run it sometime when I pass through CO.
mberger111 what do you mean "the Tundra not bad", it raped the raptor badly in the Baja 1000 stock full class, the raptor was left in the tundra's dust and it broke down
The Tundra did pretty good. That said these crew cab pickups have super long wheelbases, You can see they high center way easier then a shorter truck or SUV, I wouldn't buy one for offroading, A regular cab short bed would probably be pretty decent.
Trevor C would be nice but it will never happen, would be a bad investment on the part of Toyota, it would cost millions to meet EPA standards and Toyota knows it would make their diesel engines unreliable
Were you trying to rip out the underside of the truck? You were putting huge ass boulders under the middle of the truck. I think I even heard some scraping.
That truck would have lots of problems due to how shitty it's approach angle is and how low to the ground it is, I'd like to see the Tacoma go up this path. It would RAPE that trail
if your going to take the truck for a test, take it for a test, don't stop short or at 10,000 feet and say it should do fine the rest of the way. just get Nathan and let him finish the job.
These guy usually do good reviews but this one is for an off road specialized vehicle but there is no mention of the 4wd technology on the thing (diff lock, 4wd function). Oh it has great sounding dual exhaust. I have no clue after watching what the things 4wd system is.
The suspension was being pushed up which caused the tires to be pushed up into the wheel wells. It happens in off reading and it's made to do that. A lift kit or purposely built off road vehicle such as a rock crawler have more suspension travel than stock 4 x 4's and if you look up videos of lifted trucks or crawlers going off road you will see more extreme examples of suspension travel.
NovaScotiaNewfie granted a lift isnt always needed. I once came across a SEMA pic where this dude had tricked out what I think was a jeep frame, i could be wrong since it was hard to tell due to the fact that different parts from different vehicles were used. He did a dune buggy like conversion...lowered it but the wheel wells were high enough for bigger tyres and I would assume he had beefy skid plate underneath.
no that truck doesnt have good ground clearance Roman so dont sit there and lie the video showed and it was heard you crash the front on that rock come on really
Man my 2002 Chevy suburban gets better fuel economy than this thing. Toyota please update your engine and transmission. I love you Toyota but come on 17 mpg highway!?
13mpg city? My Ram 1500 Hemi gets around 19 city. Both have a 5.7L V8. The TRD Pro costs around $66k where I live. A similar equipped Ram 1500 costs $53k. For those who say Toyota is a better vehicle. It should be for around $13k more. Think of all the upgrades you could do to a Ram for $13k. Better yet, think of the gas, insurance and maintenance you get for the $13k you save. Thanks but I'll stick with the Ram 1500.
+Victor W where do you live, the TRD PRO where i live is 54k out the door and that's for a 2016, wonder how much your Ram will be worth in 5 years compared to the Tundra, just look at past to present reliability ratings between Toyota and Dodge, you will see the whole picture lol
Hell Yeah!!! Mcdonalds has the best beef. Let's just say you'r a Toyota fan boy and I'm a Chrysler fan boy and leave it at that. Please don't reply how it's proven how crappy... That is subjective. Believe it or not, every manufacturer has fans regardless of being domestic or import.
Jeremias Martinez the Tundra TRD PRO wiped it's ass with the Raptor in the stock full class in the Baja 1000 last year, the Raptor didn't even finish the race, it broke down, it got beat at it's own game lol
The pro is nothing more than a over-priced Tundra. There isn't anything any different to make it anymore capable offroad than buying a base model tundra and installing better tires. Even my 08 with street tires would go through that stuff in the video just the same. Also the IFS in trucks today really make them horrible for severe offroad use. One wrong move and your alignment is screwed.
+William Todd (williamtodd) severe offroad calls for a different setup obviously. Your paying for a package, thats it. Whether you think you need or like it is opinion.
+William Todd (williamtodd) most people buy stuff for looks. Look at all those lifted mall crawlers around that has never seen a gravel road. There will always be people willing to pay for these options.
guy proulx Same exact truck I have, without the soft suspension and leveling kit. Far from worth the ridiculous price that Toyota has put on them. I could do the same thing to my truck for far less than what the dealers want for these trucks LOL. The leveling kit sucks for towing applications as well.
lol that's gotta a joke. My best friend has a 15 tundra he's getting 7mpg he does have a slight lift but still I have my 03 Silverado fabtec 4 inch lift 4.8 v8 I average about 26 highway so is his truck that bad or what lol 🤦♂️
Tundra is one of the best all around full size pick ups.
Trevor C I agree
THE Best
Bought the Tundra Limited double cab 5.7L, with the trade-in of my 9 year old 4Runner I couldn't be happier. Tow my RV trailer with it. Going to Alaska next year.
This video is the reason that I bought my 2015 Tundra TRD Pro 10 years ago. It hasn’t failed me yet. Thank you, TFLTruck
Finally, an actual off road review for your off road review. My 10 year old mini van cannot do this.
David Scott *sarcasm* true, but my dad's eleven year old one could...doi! Ok sorry i couldn't resist the opportunity to be a smartass. Have a nice day/evening/existence! :D
David Scott yes it can but you need money and lots of it
Tundra in general = great truck
man the exhaust note...damn!
A TRD supercharger for the Tundra, please!
😍
A supercharged Engine in a TRD pro.. Hell yeah dude. that would be amazing.
Heck yeah
This video is encouraging for me. We just bought a 2017 Tundra double-cab SR5, TRD package, but not a Pro. It is absolutely a great truck for highway cruising, I love it already. quartzslab Do you like it still? Looking at getting a 2018 CrewMax TRD Off Road.
Love the Tundra! If it wernt for just buying the 16 Tacoma, Tundra would have been my choice...oh well, next time for sure! Great vid btw!!
Lmfao, I'm in the same boots. Got a 16 Tacoma but now I want a tundra! Next time for sure 😂
filthytaco i have one and love it! After watching all of these videos, I regret not getting the 4x4 😭
Christopher Ruesga yeah that's usually how it works. you feel like you might not need it.... until you do LOL
I had not realized that TRD Pro Tundras were expensive from its debut. I'm happy I paid $48k for my 2019 TRD Pro.
Nice video Roman love the 4x4 reviews.
You should use 4LOW when you're off road. It will save you fuel because you won't need so much throttle input to get past obstacles, and it's much more gentle on the drive train. Great vid though. Looks like you had a great time!

The tundra is one of the more American trucks though. They are made in San Antonio

I dont understand why toyota used BFgoodridge all-terrain on their test truck but , when you buy it you get Michellin off road tires ? I feel cheated
Fordalloy BFG tires were only on rock warrior and TRD pro car tires on everything else
Had an 08 tundra loved the truck, but hated the horrible gas mileage
And it hated you
Y'all should start using a polarized filter. It'll enhance color and contrast, especially of lanscapes, and reduce glare.
I think this should be your new off road trail for reviews. That normal trail just doesnt seem that challenging on video. But Ive never been on it so maybe its challenges just dont come through well on video. I think a FX4, Rebel, TRD Pro mashup on this trail would be a great video.
Toyota Tundra number1
I have a 05 tundra, 2.5 " lift. Toyo At tires, love the truck 4.7 ltr 185,475 miles, wont drive anything else.
I like hearing snow and stones crackling under cars/range rovers ect to
which trail is this? doesn't look familiar to me for some reason.
It seems that the only downside of this truck is the fuel economy compare to the big 3 as i hear on forum well if its reliable as my tacoma 2006 ill trade for it

Is the tundra going to get the descent control also? Because the tacoma and 4runner have it
Good stuff. Love the off road truck videos (especially Raptor videos since that's my truck, but the Toyota's not bad). Where is this trail? I'd like to run it sometime when I pass through CO.

Very nice truck seems pretty capable off road. I'd personally rather have a SVT Raptor though.
I miss my 2011 tundra rock warrior with the trd exhaust and k&n intake. I traded it in for a 2015 Chevy 3500 dump.
+CapitalandLawns i would miss it too
Man I'm sorry, but Toyota does need to get a diesel in the tundras ASAP
Trevor C would be nice but it will never happen, would be a bad investment on the part of Toyota, it would cost millions to meet EPA standards and Toyota knows it would make their diesel engines unreliable
Great truck!!! Great video!!!
Take the 4Runner on that trail!
I'm looking at a tundra crewman 4x4 n a Dodge Ram 1500 hemi 4x4 which is better in horsepower , torque, power , reliability
I want to know where there is snow in jun. thats cray cray coming from a socal resident.
Were you trying to rip out the underside of the truck? You were putting huge ass boulders under the middle of the truck. I think I even heard some scraping.
+headcas620 When the truck doesn't belong to you, they tend to drive them like total idiots just as all other car review shows do.
They did that to test approach angle and ground clearance. It passed
What about the 2105 Colorado through here!?
Aaron Mayes RECALLARADO LOL
That truck would have lots of problems due to how shitty it's approach angle is and how low to the ground it is, I'd like to see the Tacoma go up this path. It would RAPE that trail

Would be an awesome matchup with the trd tundra, fx4 f150 and the rebel!!!
It beat the FX4 .
yep but the rebel would beat them both
ofter or before it gets repairs?
no repairs will be needed
These guy usually do good reviews but this one is for an off road specialized vehicle but there is no mention of the 4wd technology on the thing (diff lock, 4wd function). Oh it has great sounding dual exhaust. I have no clue after watching what the things 4wd system is.
Would be a good matchup with this and Romans raptor
RAJohnson713 been there and done that: th-cam.com/video/LIvrSrIMiV4/w-d-xo.html
RAJohnson713 just look at who won the baja 1000 in the stock full class, read the whole story it's quite interesting
Hi, why are the new ones not bringing the offroad ties just likethis one.
i want to take xterra here. where is this trail?
Where is this at?
what size tires/wheel are those?
should be 285/75r17
I know this is kind of a dumb question but if I don't ask I won't know, anyway @5:02 does that hurt the suspension or anything?
The suspension was being pushed up which caused the tires to be pushed up into the wheel wells. It happens in off reading and it's made to do that. A lift kit or purposely built off road vehicle such as a rock crawler have more suspension travel than stock 4 x 4's and if you look up videos of lifted trucks or crawlers going off road you will see more extreme examples of suspension travel.

Does the truck have heated & cooled seats?
+Dalton Hill Heated seats are optional, I don't think the Tundra has the option of cooled seats though. The Toyota Land Cruiser does however.
2:27 the go pro falls off the side of the car
how I can go to that place from airport
У нас так до дачи последние 100 метров доезжают, а у них - небывалый офф-роад... )))))
I feel like the cameras can't do the trail justice. Perhaps think about ways to pioneer depth in your videos!
What trail is this?
What trail was that?
Just want to say it is pronounced TOY ota not TEA ota. So I could take this a bit more serious if the basic name was used correctly.
you should review one of those F150 Black OPS trucks byTuscany. The ones on the FORDOF MURFREESBORO channel
anyone else notice the grey tundra. maybe an 05 or 06 when he was talking to dog! ha-ha
Hi can you take the music off the vid so I can hear the gravel crunching under the wheels please if that's ok???
o it did very much and Roman is going to sit there and lie saying it has great ground clearance knowing dam good and well he felt it to
Is this gonna be resold as a "certified" used? Hehe
Nah...
My 300SD could clear those obstacles, let alone that Subaru :p Up until the snowy hill where you had to get up some momentum.
Please compare this to a Land Rover defender or discovery. Or if u want have this one go up against your jeep rubicon hardrock or any jeep
As good as a Raptor? Nah, but before I die I want to own a loud, rip snorting V8 and the Raptor is now a V6 so I want the Tundra.
+podmonkey2501 the Tundra raped the Raptor badly in the Baja 1000 stock full class in 2014, the Raptor broke down early in the race
Raptor will be in the shop broke down while the tundra will be on the road doing its thing
T to the R to the D...
Does this have a rear e-locker?
xXBurntBaconXx unfortunately only on 2wd. Still the best truck. You can throw anything at it
LSD
i love the soung
"What's the plan" xD
What's the plan? Haha
get some
YOUR MIRROR ARE FOLDED.
Tundra> All other full size pickups(excluding Ram)
no that truck doesnt have good ground clearance Roman so dont sit there and lie the video showed and it was heard you crash the front on that rock come on really
TOYOTA TUNDRA TWIN TURBO DIESEL PLEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!
YES NO EMME!! Video's are much better without her.
Man my 2002 Chevy suburban gets better fuel economy than this thing. Toyota please update your engine and transmission. I love you Toyota but come on 17 mpg highway!?

yeah and look at who has been building heavy duty trucks longer and you will see the whole picture lol
Victor W macdonalds has been selling burgers for longer than everybody else, does that mean they have the best beef?
Hell Yeah!!! Mcdonalds has the best beef. Let's just say you'r a Toyota fan boy and I'm a Chrysler fan boy and leave it at that. Please don't reply how it's proven how crappy... That is subjective. Believe it or not, every manufacturer has fans regardless of being domestic or import.
Victor W Darn, too bad you don't want me to reply anymore, i would of had fun with you lol
Tundra 😄😄😄
A Silverado or f150 could keep up with that , nothing special there in my opinion
+Noltz62 And looks to me like it could all be done in a 2WD pickup.
I highly doubt that. F150s and silverados are far too short
They tundra did pretty well, but the Raptor is still better.
drunkpolak wontreply did you see the results of the Baja 1000 stock full class, the TRD PRO raped the Craptor badly, the Craptor broke down
drunkpolak wontreply FORD...... - Fix - Often - Repair - Daily
If you want something long term 5+ years go with the Tundra...
drunkpolak wontreply two different price levels. the Raptor is amazing but costs much more.
Jeremias Martinez the Tundra TRD PRO wiped it's ass with the Raptor in the stock full class in the Baja 1000 last year, the Raptor didn't even finish the race, it broke down, it got beat at it's own game lol
guy proulx damn lol, still like the truck though.
My 93 pathfinder would walk all over this truck.
CesarConH lol, you think
CesarConH but can it tow 10,000 lbs?
Sukhraj Dhillon no, neither can those trucks dumb ass😂
CesarConH Yes they can.
tundra is rated to tow 10,000lbs
the most lame truck review i have seen puddle 2 inch deep mud and if you call that snow then my freezer has more
yup, these guys are lame
No offense that guy needs a bra!!
The B. F. Goodrich tire suck in snow!! Yes the Tundra is a fine truck. But I favor American brand trucks! Off road? Nothing runs with the Raptor.
Whether you think you need or like it is opinion.
fusionstar916 Exactly its a package, and it does absolutely nothing to help the capabilities of the truck.
+William Todd (williamtodd) most people buy stuff for looks. Look at all those lifted mall crawlers around that has never seen a gravel road. There will always be people willing to pay for these options.
+William Todd (williamtodd) the TRD PRO has a completely different suspension and has more travel and better approach angle
guy proulx Same exact truck I have, without the soft suspension and leveling kit. Far from worth the ridiculous price that Toyota has put on them. I could do the same thing to my truck for far less than what the dealers want for these trucks LOL. The leveling kit sucks for towing applications as well.
Dude, u r too over dramatic son!
It gets less MPG than a Raptor? NO thanks.
lol that's gotta a joke. My best friend has a 15 tundra he's getting 7mpg he does have a slight lift but still I have my 03 Silverado fabtec 4 inch lift 4.8 v8 I average about 26 highway so is his truck that bad or what lol 🤦♂️
What size tires and rims are those?
