I totally agree, but anyone saying cameras don't matter is lying to themselves. It's actually lying to their viewers since every TH-camr has made a video on how meaningless gear is and how you can create art with the worst camera ever. They're imitating one another, thinking this is such a deep observation...of course a camera won't turn you into an artist, but regardless of its specs, a camera can get you motivated and inspired to go out and shoot. I had a 5D Mark III for 3 years, and I barely took it out for "fun" and passion (only shot my school shorts with it). A big, heavy and mediocre camera, horrible colours, ordinary 1080p image...I've switched to the GH5 now and I've never been happier. And there's not much of a difference between 1080p and 4k (which my computer can't even handle properly), but it's really a beast when it comes to dynamic range and features (peaking, zebras, histogram etc.)
@@Albanez39 Exactly man. I started out on a canon t5. I loved that thing, for pictures at least. When i started to get into video, that thing was horrible. I still tried to create but the video was so bad i was losing motivation. I regained that motivation once i upgraded to the sony a6500. Literally the first day i had it i stayed up till 5am shooting and editing my first video. My creative drive sparked now that i had a camera that was capable for doing videos.
@@Albanez39 I have a nikon d5500 and I swear for my mother that taking video with that thing makes me wanna kill myself. I can see the noise in the image even when the lighting is good and the ISO is 100. If I go over 200 ISO, I don't know why, the noise get's 10x more clear than before. If only I was born in the USA, I could buy those kinda of cameras, but because I am from Perú... The prices are like 3 times higher for everything. 1 dollar equals to 3.64 soles (that's like almost 4 times the price). So if I wanna buy a light like a godox vl150 (369$) that is equal to 1,344.45 Soles. Mother fucker, I can't change of camara gear now after having 4 lenses. If I buyed the body of a Sony camera I would only have the kit lens and I would be broke. But if I buyed the nikon z50 (can't buy the z6 is to fucking expensive) I at least could do something, but the Z lenses are fucking expensive... Maybe I will just focus in getting light gear and that's it. The dynamic range of my Nikon d5500 is absolute shit and let's not talk about the auto-focus.
@@chok1169 I feel your pain. I live in Albania, a small, developing (and corrupt) country in Southern Europe. We have just a handful of camera stores, and they don't have many brands or models. You want to buy online? Sure, you just have to pay hundreds of dollars in shipping and then pay more hundreds as customs/import tax. And it's a corrupt system that sometimes will ask for 22% of the product's value, but sometimes it jumps to 30% or 40% for no reason. And when you pay this "RANSOM", you only get a bill with the amount of money you paid. There's no mention of the product's price and the percentage of customs tax you had to pay. And the funny thing is, they factor in the shipping cost in the product's value. You bought a $500 camera and paid $100 for shipping, you have to pay 34% in customs tax for $600. I had to find a semi-illegal store that secretly imported cameras, lenses and other electronic gear from the US, without paying import taxes. No warranty, no nothing...but at least I got a new GH5 for $1500.
I am starting very late in the game. I am 51 years old and I love photography and videos, but I hate mine. I literally see mine and delete. So you touch on some good stuff I was pondering, so I will take this info and apply it. Thanks so much!!! Stay blessed
Like you I too am starting late. My love of photography has always been a constant no matter the equipment. Film was so expensive and required formal training. Digital is AWESOME!!! Learn as you go . Take as many as you like . Limited only by storage. Once I realized photography is my passion I just create. The reason it took me so long to believe I am a photographer was self-doubt. Go for it and just create what feels good. I love sunrise and sunset. Practise and then review .
Same thing with audio recording. I was a producer/engineer before I got into video and photography. Rappers would always be lookin for extreme discounts. I’m talkin 40% - 60% off what the basic price for recording was. Broke as hell but in the music all you heard was how many bands they had and foreign cars and women they had🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
That's true of a LOT of wanna-be clients. Like I'm charging 50 bucks an hour for photos and I know any market, I'm only a student still but I'm mentored by big name people in the industry, and I know other people who graduated around my age who charge double that; still I have people come up to me like "Ok ok Imma look at the market" and they come back and say 'nah' and I ask if it's because of the price or something else, and it's always because of the price. Then I just say, bro, you ain't looking a my market, you're looking at the low-ballers market. Period. I'm ain't doing no editing below 25 bucks and hour and no shooting below double that. My main mentor charged 325 bucks an hour - 2K day rate! - for the last 10 years he was in the game full-time. Unfortunately his clients were pretty much only politicians and corporate people who could afford not to negotiate having to pay that much just so he show up and take a few pics of a contract signature or something. If you don't do any corporate stuff, aren't contracted by a big magazine full-time (and it's not a big salary either, I know some legends and they ain't comfortable...), don't do any big jewish/greek/italian weddings (sorry but that's the truth!) then you ain't gonna be making good money at all. Even when you do you work 12-16 hours a day and you work your ASS off week-long contracts to get this 15K or something you BEAT yourself up. And if you want to make a LOT of money in the game the only way is commercial stuff, shooting for Nike and stuff, 10-15K day-rate, and I HATE this, I'm a photojournalist... broke for life yo
Great advice! I was caught in the same trap with thinking I had to have the best camera . It took a lot of research and classes to realize it was all me. My story, my look and realizing it takes a crew to make it happen!
Answer this though: Do you want to make films that you want to make? Or do you want to make films that you don't want to make, but get paid a little for it? Get educated, land a good job that lets you work-remote. Then film in the downtime. Programmer, accountant, consultant, personal trainer, etc. You don't have to sacrifice your passion to a grind. Passive income tends to die quicker nowadays out as interest rates are low, and service/sales contracts are shorter and shorter.

Broo. I feel you about having too much gear. Seems like I had no gear, then I had too much gear and couldn't even create how I wanted, now I'm slimming it all down again. 2 lenses and 1 gimbal and that's about it. Soon I'm gonna ditch the gimbal too! More freedom = more creativity.

My Misconception from when I was a beginner- In order to learn the basics of lighting , editing , shooting you HAD to go to film school or at least attend somewhere with a decent film program. This is a great video! I love your no-nonsense approach and the insights you offer. NOTHING will replace passion, not even creativity. If you have the passion, you will GET creative, and it helps to watch content like this to avoid the BS put out by SO many YT creators who have sold their souls to the commercial aspect of their trade. I'm 60 and just getting into this. Good info is priceless! Good instincts is next in line for weeding through the bullshit.
It wasnt the sony's fault. Have one since 2016, never had big problems with low light. Made tests to see the best profile picture to use in low light (cine2 with variants on Still/Movie/S.gamut3) and never had problems. I've shot scenes using only a full moon to light the subject and the scene (a semi desert) at 16000 ISO, I've shot woods at night at 32000 ISO, lit an entire room with candles to simulate a scene in the XVII century at 12000 ISO and countless more times I've gone way beyond the normal of other cameras low light capability. Maximum I've had with little to no grain was 80000 ISO. With s-log was 8000. The a7sii is a low light beast, if you cant get it, its not the equipments fault...
First, you’re more natural on camera than any TH-camr I can think of. Second, I wondered how many of your videography lies I would agree with. All of them, it turns out. I look back now on the year I took to choose and buy my two cameras. So glad I learned from TH-camrs I respect to focus not on the “best” camera but the best camera for me and my projects. It took a LONG time, tons of research and thought to work out what that is. Very happy with my choices. Sure I’ll upgrade eventually, but don’t feel any rush. These two will serve my purposes for some time. I’ve also been very selective about lights, gimbals etc. After dragging it all to a few shoots, you very quickly realize enough is enough. You can rent special items when you need to. And you DEFINITELY don’t need more gear than will fit in the back of an SUV until your budgets get big enough to cover grips to haul it all.

I absolutely LOVE seeing how others use the randomness of travel to flow in their vlogs. The audio issues, the scenes that might not resolve, the constant "is this going to work?" feeling. Great video, you killed it! I SUPER agree with all these points. A misconception I had originally was that I would eventually just hire a DP and just direct. Nope -- you gotta learn it all. Once I got rid of that misconception, my business started taking off. Took the power into my own hands and started innovating.

Loved the point about the camera not mattering as much as you think. I started out with a GH5 myself and at times would be jealous when seeing other creators work with FS7’s and thinking ‘man once I have a FS7, then I’m really going next level.’ But once I started mastering the GH5 and getting comfortable with it I realized it’s not that important. Funny how every content creator goes through these phases!
I'm learning so much more by using a phone with a manual camera app because there are only a few settings that you can use so you need creative work arounds which really boost creativity and enjoyment whilst filming. Great video!

Nice video YC. I remember not to long ago I felt the same way you did about the cameras being able to boost the quality of the video. I'm still working on my upgrade from my t4i I got as a birthday gift when I started 7 years ago. I've done a lot with this little camera and pushed it to the limits. My main worry was that I would get a client somewhat knowledgeable about cameras and when they saw I was using an outdated camera they wouldn't want to work with me anymore. I realize that my work had to speak for myself and not the equipment I was using. I learned to use what I have and work towards its advantages, not its weaknesses.
Please don't let these successful TH-camrs keep telling you the camera doesn't matter. And never feel "guilty" for wanting a better camera. It's now a misconception within itself. The misconception is "the camera doesn't matter". When in fact it does. You said it yourself. As a freelance, your clients want a certain look. Now they don't know what to call that look in technical terms, all they know is they subconsciously are looking for a level of quality. Your T4i simply cannot keep up with an a6500. Your clients have friends. Their friends are getting videos done by other freelancers. Those freelancers have new cameras. These new cameras have 120fps, 4k24p, custom Picture Profiles, AutoFocus out the ass, Low Light CPUs. Now what they have are videos that can punch in and out of frame without loosing image quality, slow motion to invoke more emotion, more dynamic range so windows arent blown the fuck out, and dope reception clips in lowlight with no noise. Show me a large TH-cam channel that says" the camera doesn't matter" but then in turn uses a Canon T4i to back up what they are saying. And not just use it once or twice to prove a point, but use it as their Acam.
I've bounced back and forth with the low light need and I film with an iphone which SUCKS even remotely before the sun goes down. But I'm just going to come to terms with that I need to wait for apple to improve that on the next phones. We'll see what happens. Dope video man! Keep creating

"Creating with limitations makes you better" I changed that a little but it is so true. For me the most important lesson I learned was good audio. I agree with everything you said in this video buddy. The more a learn the more I realize keeping it simple is the way forth. Lighting is defiantly king, I did the buying cinema camera then realized learning to use my t3i I could get epic footage when I planned it and lit it properly. 100% the camera misconception. I had the 80d and I thought it was trash because you had the a6300. So I got the a6300 but it didn't make the content better. It's not about the camera. Dope video.
KoMan personally between the 2, I would go for the a6300 just because of the 120fps and the picture profiles. But, it’s really up to yourself. If you go for the a6300, get about 5-6 batteries and a shoulder rig because rolling shutter with handheld is poor.

DOPE VIDEO.....I have a Sony a7 iii now and just got a pair of yn360 lights....I have learned so much from alllll the cameras (canon hg20, canon 7d, canon 6D, sony A7Rii, Sony A7Sii) I have used since 2010 and all the types of lighting. At the end of the day, it's all about the Artist, not the paint Brush..You just gotta find your Way and never Lose the Love for what you do. ✊🏿

I see some TH-camrs building out these huge rigs for their xt3, a7iii, gh5, etc. do you think it is necessary to do so? I shootnweddings, music videos, real estate, Corp commercials and I’ve never had the need for a rig. I just think it is overkill and defeats the purpose of choosing a smaller camera.

Brother, you're so right. I live in Honolulu and we always complaining about how we wish we had better things to shoot. I know I have. How cool to see ES headquarters. I've been using their music for some time now and it's been a real game changer. As for misconceptions...that audio is not as important as video. If anything, I think audio is MORE important than video. People will forgive a bit of grainy video or distortion. Hello! I'm trying to figure out what to upgrade to from a Sony a6500 - the Fuji X-T3 with 3 lenses OR the Sony a7III with 2 lenses... not sure ... Always too much bloody choice. I know the Fuji technically has the best video features, but is lacking the IBIS... in your opinion, do you think the Full-frame sensor and IBIS is a huge boon for a video content creator and/or photographer?
Just realised watching this what you were shooting on, realised the hand-shake... I'm guessing a lack of IBIS doesn't get in the way... Still intrigued in what you think between Super35 and FF?
some sound advice, we are fairly new to all this and i fell prey to the better camera misconception. i am happy now to just get by with what we have, and spend more time learning how to shoot with what we have.
Five misconceptions: 1. It is all about the camera ---> Cameras don't matter that much 2. Having a camera that is better in low light is better than having good lighting ---> Lighting is king 3. The amount of money I need to make this a fulfilling career ---> underestimated 4. Having more gear makes the process easier ---> It makes the process a hell 5. I was not in a good location (city) ---> The creativity is not only determined by location

I live in LA so it's more of a struggle because of all of the competitors. A lot of directors are filming with Red and Arris. I personally film with the sony a7 and 5mark4. I love it. The point your making cannot be more relevant. People should be focussing on developing their creativity, skill and knowledge. Invest in these aspects apposed to attaining the newest technology. Nice channel man, good content, keep it up. Dont beleive the hype :) !
Great insight. Being minimalist is so key I think. I have so much videography gear that just doesn't see the light of day now. Camera + base accessories (batteries, filters, SD cards & cleaning kit), 3 X lenses (small MFT lenses), gorillapod, Instamic Pro and on compact camera light and I'm good for 95% of my common casual shooting scenarios. Gimbals, sliders, tri/monopods, monitor, shotgun mics and drone stay home unless there is a specific reason. Once you reliably nail focus, exposure and composition (including basic shoot for the edit principles) in camera I think refining/expanding your skills with post processing is where it is at. I am stuck here, or at least progressing at a snails pace. My correcting and grading skills suck for the amount of time I've spent with various editors. Audio skills are even worse, though I've only really started to look to improve there for the last 6 months or so. I think it is because so much time can be sunk here it any number of different ways, it can be hard to break your habits to try something new.
That’s was one of your best in regards to “insight” and “wisdom” when looking at what it takes to create great content... NOT TONS OF EQUIPMENT! Tons of ambition! The specific tools are helpful but as you stated all the cameras today are worthy but it’s the filmmaker that inevitably makes or brakes the art created not the camera. With that said that Canon EOS R footage in your B roll is FIRE!! You should create a music video with the EOS R and show all the naysayers that skill out plays the equipment! That camera might not have all the bells and whistles but the colors you’re pushing out of that thing is DOPE CITY! ✌️

Like you I too am starting late. My love of photography has always been a constant no matter the equipment. Film was so expensive and required formal training. Digital is AWESOME!!! Learn as you go . Take as many as you like . Limited only by storage. Once I realized photography is my passion I just create.
The reason it took me so long to believe I am a photographer was self-doubt.
Go for it and just create what feels good. I love sunrise and sunset. Practise and then review .

Same thing with audio recording. I was a producer/engineer before I got into video and photography. Rappers would always be lookin for extreme discounts. I’m talkin 40% - 60% off what the basic price for recording was. Broke as hell but in the music all you heard was how many bands they had and foreign cars and women they had🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

That's true of a LOT of wanna-be clients. Like I'm charging 50 bucks an hour for photos and I know any market, I'm only a student still but I'm mentored by big name people in the industry, and I know other people who graduated around my age who charge double that; still I have people come up to me like "Ok ok Imma look at the market" and they come back and say 'nah' and I ask if it's because of the price or something else, and it's always because of the price.
Then I just say, bro, you ain't looking a my market, you're looking at the low-ballers market. Period. I'm ain't doing no editing below 25 bucks and hour and no shooting below double that. My main mentor charged 325 bucks an hour - 2K day rate! - for the last 10 years he was in the game full-time.
Unfortunately his clients were pretty much only politicians and corporate people who could afford not to negotiate having to pay that much just so he show up and take a few pics of a contract signature or something.
If you don't do any corporate stuff, aren't contracted by a big magazine full-time (and it's not a big salary either, I know some legends and they ain't comfortable...), don't do any big jewish/greek/italian weddings (sorry but that's the truth!) then you ain't gonna be making good money at all. Even when you do you work 12-16 hours a day and you work your ASS off week-long contracts to get this 15K or something you BEAT yourself up.
And if you want to make a LOT of money in the game the only way is commercial stuff, shooting for Nike and stuff, 10-15K day-rate, and I HATE this, I'm a photojournalist... broke for life yo
Great advice! I was caught in the same trap with thinking I had to have the best camera . It took a lot of research and classes to realize it was all me. My story, my look and realizing it takes a crew to make it happen!
Also a way to get out of a creative block is to try making something out of your comfort zone

Answer this though: Do you want to make films that you want to make? Or do you want to make films that you don't want to make, but get paid a little for it? Get educated, land a good job that lets you work-remote. Then film in the downtime. Programmer, accountant, consultant, personal trainer, etc. You don't have to sacrifice your passion to a grind. Passive income tends to die quicker nowadays out as interest rates are low, and service/sales contracts are shorter and shorter.
Get a real job to fund filmmaking.

Broo. I feel you about having too much gear. Seems like I had no gear, then I had too much gear and couldn't even create how I wanted, now I'm slimming it all down again. 2 lenses and 1 gimbal and that's about it. Soon I'm gonna ditch the gimbal too! More freedom = more creativity.

My Misconception from when I was a beginner- In order to learn the basics of lighting , editing , shooting you HAD to go to film school or at least attend somewhere with a decent film program. And also MUST have a computer that cost 5 grand

This is a great video! I love your no-nonsense approach and the insights you offer. NOTHING will replace passion, not even creativity. If you have the passion, you will GET creative, and it helps to watch content like this to avoid the BS put out by SO many YT creators who have sold their souls to the commercial aspect of their trade.

I got sucked into the whole low light hype ... My first camera was a a7sii , and I still had Fu*ked up lowlight footage 😂
It wasnt the sony's fault. Have one since 2016, never had big problems with low light. Made tests to see the best profile picture to use in low light (cine2 with variants on Still/Movie/S.gamut3) and never had problems. I've shot scenes using only a full moon to light the subject and the scene (a semi desert) at 16000 ISO, I've shot woods at night at 32000 ISO, lit an entire room with candles to simulate a scene in the XVII century at 12000 ISO and countless more times I've gone way beyond the normal of other cameras low light capability. Maximum I've had with little to no grain was 80000 ISO. With s-log was 8000.
The a7sii is a low light beast, if you cant get it, its not the equipments fault...
First, you’re more natural on camera than any TH-camr I can think of. Second, I wondered how many of your videography lies I would agree with. All of them, it turns out. I look back now on the year I took to choose and buy my two cameras. So glad I learned from TH-camrs I respect to focus not on the “best” camera but the best camera for me and my projects. It took a LONG time, tons of research and thought to work out what that is. Very happy with my choices. Sure I’ll upgrade eventually, but don’t feel any rush. These two will serve my purposes for some time. I’ve also been very selective about lights, gimbals etc. After dragging it all to a few shoots, you very quickly realize enough is enough. You can rent special items when you need to. And you DEFINITELY don’t need more gear than will fit in the back of an SUV until your budgets get big enough to cover grips to haul it all.

I SUPER agree with all these points. A misconception I had originally was that I would eventually just hire a DP and just direct. Nope -- you gotta learn it all. Once I got rid of that misconception, my business started taking off. Took the power into my own hands and started innovating.

Loved the point about the camera not mattering as much as you think. I started out with a GH5 myself and at times would be jealous when seeing other creators work with FS7’s and thinking ‘man once I have a FS7, then I’m really going next level.’ But once I started mastering the GH5 and getting comfortable with it I realized it’s not that important. Funny how every content creator goes through these phases!
Fire content and I think a lot of people think the same thing. Camera is only a tool. I also agree more gear just makes things worse.
I'm learning so much more by using a phone with a manual camera app because there are only a few settings that you can use so you need creative work arounds which really boost creativity and enjoyment whilst filming. Great video!

Nice video YC. I remember not to long ago I felt the same way you did about the cameras being able to boost the quality of the video. I'm still working on my upgrade from my t4i I got as a birthday gift when I started 7 years ago. I've done a lot with this little camera and pushed it to the limits. My main worry was that I would get a client somewhat knowledgeable about cameras and when they saw I was using an outdated camera they wouldn't want to work with me anymore. I realize that my work had to speak for myself and not the equipment I was using. I learned to use what I have and work towards its advantages, not its weaknesses.
Please don't let these successful TH-camrs keep telling you the camera doesn't matter. And never feel "guilty" for wanting a better camera. It's now a misconception within itself. The misconception is "the camera doesn't matter". When in fact it does. You said it yourself. As a freelance, your clients want a certain look. Now they don't know what to call that look in technical terms, all they know is they subconsciously are looking for a level of quality. Your T4i simply cannot keep up with an a6500. Your clients have friends. Their friends are getting videos done by other freelancers. Those freelancers have new cameras. These new cameras have 120fps, 4k24p, custom Picture Profiles, AutoFocus out the ass, Low Light CPUs. Now what they have are videos that can punch in and out of frame without loosing image quality, slow motion to invoke more emotion, more dynamic range so windows arent blown the fuck out, and dope reception clips in lowlight with no noise.
Show me a large TH-cam channel that says" the camera doesn't matter" but then in turn uses a Canon T4i to back up what they are saying. And not just use it once or twice to prove a point, but use it as their Acam.
I think dslrguide was using a t3i for years and he said he wasn't upgrading and if he did it must have been like this year.
I've bounced back and forth with the low light need and I film with an iphone which SUCKS even remotely before the sun goes down. But I'm just going to come to terms with that I need to wait for apple to improve that on the next phones. We'll see what happens. Dope video man! Keep creating

I agree with everything you said in this video buddy. The more a learn the more I realize keeping it simple is the way forth. Lighting is defiantly king, I did the buying cinema camera then realized learning to use my t3i I could get epic footage when I planned it and lit it properly. 100% the camera misconception. I had the 80d and I thought it was trash because you had the a6300. So I got the a6300 but it didn't make the content better. It's not about the camera. Dope video.

KoMan personally between the 2, I would go for the a6300 just because of the 120fps and the picture profiles. But, it’s really up to yourself. If you go for the a6300, get about 5-6 batteries and a shoulder rig because rolling shutter with handheld is poor.
KoMan depends on your skill level. If you are a beginner 80d if you’re not I would recommend a6300

DOPE VIDEO.....I have a Sony a7 iii now and just got a pair of yn360 lights....I have learned so much from alllll the cameras (canon hg20, canon 7d, canon 6D, sony A7Rii, Sony A7Sii) I have used since 2010 and all the types of lighting. At the end of the day, it's all about the Artist, not the paint Brush..You just gotta find your Way and never Lose the Love for what you do. ✊🏿

I see some TH-camrs building out these huge rigs for their xt3, a7iii, gh5, etc. do you think it is necessary to do so? I shootnweddings, music videos, real estate, Corp commercials and I’ve never had the need for a rig. I just think it is overkill and defeats the purpose of choosing a smaller camera.

Mike Matzke I’ve done that before. I did a shoot on one day and the next day I did another shoot and forgot to get the footage off of the card from the previous day and formatted it 🤦🏽♂️

Less really is more, and when you can master what you have to it's fullest ability until you've outgrown it, I feel that's the time to move on to something new. Learn premiere, ae, and media encoder, then go to resolve and learn how to do it for real. It's a process and it takes time

If anything, I think audio is MORE important than video. People will forgive a bit of grainy video or distortion. Hello! I'm trying to figure out what to upgrade to from a Sony a6500 - the Fuji X-T3 with 3 lenses OR the Sony a7III with 2 lenses... not sure ... Always too much bloody choice. I know the Fuji technically has the best video features, but is lacking the IBIS... in your opinion, do you think the Full-frame sensor and IBIS is a huge boon for a video content creator and/or photographer?
Also, totally agree with what you've said here - just wondering on your input as a professional to someone looking to becoming a professional :D

some sound advice, we are fairly new to all this and i fell prey to the better camera misconception. i am happy now to just get by with what we have, and spend more time learning how to shoot with what we have.

Yo let me start off, we really dig your sincerity, the topic, experience and knowledge you’re putting out! Really really helped some of us and it’s always good to see when your vid pops in the TH-cam recommendations! Peace brother!
The point your making cannot be more relevant. People should be focussing on developing their creativity, skill and knowledge. Invest in these aspects apposed to attaining the newest technology.

Great insight. Being minimalist is so key I think. I have so much videography gear that just doesn't see the light of day now. Camera + base accessories (batteries, filters, SD cards & cleaning kit), 3 X lenses (small MFT lenses), gorillapod, Instamic Pro and on compact camera light and I'm good for 95% of my common casual shooting scenarios. Gimbals, sliders, tri/monopods, monitor, shotgun mics and drone stay home unless there is a specific reason.
Once you reliably nail focus, exposure and composition (including basic shoot for the edit principles) in camera I think refining/expanding your skills with post processing is where it is at. I am stuck here, or at least progressing at a snails pace. My correcting and grading skills suck for the amount of time I've spent with various editors. Audio skills are even worse, though I've only really started to look to improve there for the last 6 months or so. I think it is because so much time can be sunk here it any number of different ways, it can be hard to break your habits to try something new.
Another misconception is that you make youtube videos and suddenly you think you're a filmmaker.

That’s was one of your best in regards to “insight” and “wisdom” when looking at what it takes to create great content... NOT TONS OF EQUIPMENT! Tons of ambition! The specific tools are helpful but as you stated all the cameras today are worthy but it’s the filmmaker that inevitably makes or brakes the art created not the camera. With that said that Canon EOS R footage in your B roll is FIRE!! You should create a music video with the EOS R and show all the naysayers that skill out plays the equipment! That camera might not have all the bells and whistles but the colors you’re pushing out of that thing is DOPE CITY! ✌️
