    Visualization is essential and is heavily applied in my martial arts training most especially when I'm shadowboxing or doing some solo drills or practice.

    Oh this was a really great drill! Thanks for the reminder to ‘cap’ the end of the knife! I carry a five day blade karambit and it has been awhile since I’ve used a straight blade. I totally agree with another kali blade trainer ( kuya Doug ) “ Those who like knives carry more than one”. So, yes multiple weapons is a plus, of course it is important then to train with both hands equally, which you always emphasize. I found something that just occurred naturally as I was getting this drill down . Right foot forward, step up with the left, come down with the left hand/ blade, hook the opponent’s hand/forearm/ blade and pull it out of the way, then step up with the right foot, come up with the right blade slashing the opponent’s trapped hand an destroying it, then with the right hand / blade the circular thrust , and then the jab. Combing both hands & blades just seemed to come naturally and flowed without really thinking about it.
    Also, I see your backyard/ trading area is getting more developed. Looks great Paul!

    I only like using one. In most situations where I conceal carry I can only have one; and it’s less heavy for me and my hands, I like to be able to defend myself with my off hand and grapple with it as well.. I feel like I can apply more jiu jitsu techniques with one knife more than two.

    I only use knife's I can thrust in forward or reverse grip without fear of my hand riding up onto the blade. Finger guard is essential. Two knife's is the way to go. I always carry my Cold Steel Double Agent I, which I fight reverse grip left handed and my cane, to fight right handed. I also carry a Cold Steel Spartan to fight forward grip right hand. I practice everyday in the forest.

    I would use double knives if there were two attackers instead of one and there is no escape. While Dual Wielding is infact an intricate concept when applied to any weapon, it's the defensive options that you DON'T have which can work against you against a single opponent. The biggest advantage though is that dual wielding makes it harder for two people to surround you.

    • @Sam-gf1eb
      @Sam-gf1eb ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And if there are 3 attackers, you use 3 knives. One in each hand and one in your toes.

    A single blade carry is easier to explain to the police, but double knife is better for training both hands at the same time! Try stabbing downward ( right to left ) with the right hand knife , circling right across the belly, then upward slashing ( right to left ) followed by a jab to the right side of attackers neck. then thrust (tip down) downward with right hand knife ( left to right ) , slash (left to right) across belly , then upward slash ( left to right ) jab the right side of attacker neck. repeat with left hand knife. It's just a slightly different way of doing the same drill with different angles. ( The hooking downward and clearing the block sets up a fileting cut up the inside of the arm, that should end the conflict. )

    Not sure you should be playing with knives. This year makes it 40 yrs of FMA for me. Watching you look fancy slashing at the air. In my 50’s. My first knife fights I was 10-13 yrs old(? Might of been younger). Other boys with sticks and knives. We stick fought often. Boys from other neighborhoods. Stupid spat’s over nothing back then. Splitting each other’s heads open.
    You need to buy a steak or roast (expensive today I know). You need to do some of these moves you’re so proud of on real meat. Realize what you think your doing. How a person will open up with these moves. It’ll change you to see those things. By the time I was a teenager I carried a balisong. I’d often hit my opponent’s hands with the free handle as I flipped it during fights. Give them the option to quit. Hit them 3 times like baseball. Then tell them... I’ve hit you 3 times with the handle? You wish to keep going? Then they decide their own fate. I had a Russian step mother. She escaped the oppression of the soviets. To quote her “knife is terrible. Much screaming, much blood. Always shoot a person. HERE. As she tapped her forehead”. She hated that I carried a knife.
    Knife is taught last because people that live in good homes with full belly’s don’t understand what it’s like to open up a person. How it changes you. If you’re starving and might die soon then life is cheap. You shouldn’t be showing half assed moves to strangers on TH-cam for the money that they pay you. You’re better then that. Good luck with your training and your journey

    • @Shacksies

      Cool backstory. But those of us who practice this art are not impoverished children looking to go get into knife fights. We learn so we can protect ourselves and our loved ones if we are threatened by violence.
      You think yourself so wise, yet reveal your ignorance when you state that learning a martial art means you take violence lightly. Most martial artists I know are some of the kindest and most nonviolent, restrained people I have met, myself included. But you believe we should lay down our arms and allow ourselves to be victims, out of some moral obligation? It is our freedom to learn how to defend ourselves, and to bear arms against those who would try to do us harm. And martial arts has given me the confidence to protect myself from bullies and violence. You are not doing a righteous thing by shaming martial artists for practicing an ancient artform. Whether it is your intention or not, you are contributing to the perpetuation of the violence you claim to oppose, by shaming innocent men for learning to protect themselves from criminals, and for shaming an ancient artform.
