Drop D 😂 toss up with drop C and B I like ‘‘em all!
Drop B has that sweet spot.
Not sure if this can be done but a cool series would be taking chimaira riffs and playing them in different tunings.
“What if Cleansation was in drop A” etc
off topic but Unearth basically rewrote the songs from the first few albums that were originally in standard B and converted then to Drop B and then started writing that way (in drop b) moving forward.That can't be easy to do to have to retrain your mind to play those songs a different way. They just said it sounds better live and the notes ring out better I have never really heard of another band doing this. Kinda cool. imo
Drop D is the best sounding to me. It is clear, articulate, all while being heavy.

Drop D was the sweet spot with that riff and tone. If it was a little tighter drop C would’ve been the winner.
Drop D ftw, you don't need to lower your tuning so much to sound heavy, Lamb of God is the proof
I'm a Drop C kinda guy. That ESP RA 2 is one of the sickest guitars ever! Another unique and original video from king of content. Awesome Rob!

The drop A sounded thick...
Drop C and Drop B sounded crushing also.
Drop D clearly had the best harmonic response
Drop D gives the clearest sound.
Drop A would be my 1st choice and drop B would be my 2nd. The drop C was sick too.
Drop C was my fav out of this, but I honestly think B or C standard would be my goto for this riff, as I liked how standard was but prefer the timbre of something lower tuned.
I’m a sucker for the drop A riff. But I’m going with the drop C riff. It’s just the best balance of clarity, heaviness and tone. I set up my only ESP LTD electric guitar with drop C years ago and I never looked back!!
Surprisingly the E standard version was pretty bangin!
That drop C is just what makes my junk vibrate. That's my favorite.
Drop B just sounded the most pissed off to me, as much as C and drop A sounded great. I also think it has to do with the tension of the strings as well, medium tension just has a nicer mid range punch in my opinion
E standard and drop C were my favs.
I think all of them and bands should have 5 guitarists to cover all the tunings and melt our faces off 😂
I think standard D is the sweet spot for heaviness and clarity... so I would probably have to pick Drop C here as the best sounding one, but the drop D sounded sick too.
That Drop C with that amp and sig guitar was instant Chimaira ❤
E std or Eb std would be for me. sounds heavy enough and allows some good melodies. a good bass helps as well.

Drop c, has that dark sound but doesnt start to lose clarity, and still "chimes" on the open non muted chords
I’m in a E Standard moment of my life… I just love the fact that it sounded heavier than the other tunings.
If I had to choose another, Drop C/D is the sweet spot for me …

I'm currently tuned to Drop A, but my favorites are Drop B and Drop C. Also, Rob, can you do a tutorial for Severed? (if you haven't done one already, if you have then that's fine)

At this point in music. Anything that doesn’t sound similar. It’s hard to play in standard or even some drops without ending up playing a song that’s too close to another.
Hence lower and lower.
Anything you play rob has a great sound it’s all in the fingers and technique.. great content

That was a pretty badass demo. I’m typically an E standard snob but that drop D just hit perfectly.
Awesome video! I liked it in drop D the most in the mix the first time around. (I like the 7 in drop A but it’s not quite apples to apples.) Drop C was really close but after listening the 2nd and 3rd time it’s becoming my favorite. The lower strings give it the growl and it still snarls nicely in the middle with more room for bite. Videos like this make me appreciate my DigiTech Drop pedal even more.
C and B have great crushing clarity
Tough one. To me it came down to when the double bass of the drums kick in. E standard and drop b both sounded sick. Going with my gut...drop b. Had to listen multiple times. Sick riff Rob. Cool content concept. Do it again!
Drop C and Drop B is killer
I think that drop D had the best sound honestly it sounded heavier than the lower ones IMHO .
For this demo, Drop C, Drop B coming in close second for me personally. I think string tension itself plays a big part in tone, and 11's just sound better in those tunings to me.
Love drop B, but I'm a C guy. My guitarist plays most of our heavier stuff in Drop C.
I'll never forget his reaction to hearing Chimaira for the first time 🤘

Drop B makes that riff sound absolutely evil.
I keep my 7-string in drop A most of the time, but that riff in drop B sounded massive and nasty while maintaining clarity and punch. Awesome!
It's between drop C and B for me, drop C being my fav tuning overall. Nice video Rob !

Hell yeah, im like a 1 3 5 kind of guy, i play in e flat and drop d flat, but my favorite tuning is c. But you definitely showed you can get the grit in standard. Standard, drop c, and drop a are my favorites. 🤘🤘
C and A were my favourites. Though for different metal subgenres I do prefer other tunings at times.
D and C are so good and tight. A sounds good too

for that riff definitely drop c followed by drop d for me, I am usually a lower than those tunings kinda guy but some riffs shine more on different keys, higher or lower

I think drop A sounded best! I spent years playing in Drop C (mainly because of your influence haha) but lately i've been addicted to Drop A# and i love it. Once you tune down, its just so hard to tune back up, but you need to find the sweet spot where the tone doesnt turn to mud, and for me thats Drop A#.
Btw, I absolutely love this sorta content and I think you should do alot more videos like these :D Also those videos you did comparing the STL tones were sick as! Love your work as always Bro :D

52's on drop D sounds so tight! But, playing on a 11-48 on standard is already a pain to play.

Another awesome video! Funny enough, with every tuning the riff had a different vibe other than sound IMO:
- In E standard it felt like an angrier, heavier version of Metallica;
- In drop D it reminded me of a cross between Slayer and early Lamb Of God (Palaces Burn era to be exact)
- The drop C version was instant Chimaira style (no surprises here 😉), seemed like a riff from the TIOR era! So chunky and heavy!
- Drop B was still pretty Chimaira-like, IMO it had a groovy and stomping character not unlike some riffs on The Infection.
Last but not least drop A was pretty damn cool too! I immediately thought of Fear Factory or early Meshuggah!
Overall each one was very cool in its own right but I have a small preference for drop C and drop B versions, the riff sounded more heavy and menacing like that. The E standard and drop D ones vere very neat too, maybe more aggressive but less crushing.

@@el_t4931 not in this specific case IMO, it still has that unmistakable Rob riffing style feel! It quickly reminded me of stuff from The Infection that was in drop B (Destroy And Dominate or Try To Survive), still Chimaira-esque but chunkier and with the low mids more present.
With this particular riff I think that it sounded best with drop C and B, even though drop D was still pretty badass!
Drop D fit perfect for that riff for me. I usually play in standard D or Standard C tuning on 6 string and A standard for my 7 string but always appreciate drop tuning as well.🤘💀🤘

All right so the higher tunings give you more definition of the notes and you can get more character on them but the lower tunings have that brutal lower than my balls type sound so to me either drop C or the drop B because I can play along with drop B on a standard 5-string bass or the drop C with a 4-string dropped... Daddario and Evans, Zildjian, EMG, Hartke, 'murica
I think I’ll go with Drop C. It’s my go-to tuning with both my bands on 6-string. So I always liked it and it feels like home to me in a way. I prefer it because I like the tension of the strings in D tuning and you have a kinda low end with the C.. so it sounds and feels really good! And man the RA-2 and the RA-600 must be some of the coolest guitars I’ve seen in my opinion.. and I really regret that I’ve never purchased an RA-600 back in the day that they were available and now I can not find one anywhere..😕
All sound great, its the combination of the song/structure intention and motivation of the band thats behind it that determines the right tuning I guess. The tuning has to fit the music and the band basically. To me personally I find the D, C sharp, C, Drop C the most balancing between heavy and still be defined.🤘😎

Finally convinced myself to pick up a 7 string after seeing the reunion concert in May. Dove straight into dropped A and I can't get over the tone.

That Drop C guitar looks pretty AF.
Drop D sounds tighter and pretty heavy. Standard E sounded good too. But I like Drop C cause that's what I play.🤘😀
I play different tunnings, but it sounded best on E because of the crunchyness and metal brightness that is missing on lower tunnings.
Drop C for me, pure gold in my opinion.
Drop C and Drop A are my faves. My main reason for saying that is because of the way the open chords sound when played. The Drop C sounds like Chimaira (obviously) and the Drop A has a dirty Korn essence to it! In my own experience Drop B is an odd tuning because I've found that the guitars I have don't tend to like or sound too good being played in that key. Going back to the Drop A tuning, I feel that only sounds as good as what it does if it's played on a 7-string guitar. I feel that my baratone guitar doesn't handle Drop A tuning very well. To be fair though, I honestly think it all depends on what pick-ups you use as to what grade of sound gets made!

D & C for me... I love clarity in my chords, riffs.
Personally I go back and forth a lot between Drop C and Drop B most of the time. I love jamming to Mudvayne, Chimaira, System of a Down, and early Slipknot stuff.

I have a soft-spot that is comparable to 4-ply Charmin TP for a tight, heavy and chunky middy driven sound in Drop C and Drop C.. ( I may go ahead and tune up a half step if I get to play 😅).

First of all, that’s an excellent riff. I wish I would’ve written it. But I’m gonna have to go with drop D on this one. I feel like it’s mean and menacing without sacrificing the tightness.
