I find an injured hen in our dog's pen; will she survive? We open a chicken ICU. Here's how I treated her injuries, and the full story of how it turned out.

She looks like me when I wake up 50 times in one night tending to kids. I hope she is doing well. I'm watching this because our daughters dog mauled our neighbors chicken. She was to far gone and he had to put her down. (I cried my eyes out)

I can’t believe you didn’t get the ants off her. 😔
I’m watching this bc my dog just mauled one of my 3 chickens. I have rehabbed a mauled chicken before and her wound is around her cloaca under her tail. I irrigated the wound with betadine.

Eventually we did get the ants off of her, but nothing we did was enough-- and I probably did make mistakes. She died so quickly; I'm sure if I knew more I could have done more. Thanks for adding your thoughts.

@@MakingHome i took my children to the park today for an hour or so, and when I got home one of our hens had been attacked by something. I am working on trying to save her now. I cleansed the wound with peroxide, and placed her in our garage for the night, and am watching some experience and advice from other poultry people. We lost one yesterday also. I am wondering if it isn't one of the cats outside, as we took our dog with us Perhaps a neighbor dog. Seems like we only just left and weren't gone that long, but something is definitely preying here just now after over a year of having chickens.... Sorry about your chicken though.
