I am so sorry your chicken got hurt! I hope she pulls through! I just recently got an update on him and he is doing great being the sole protector of a flock of female buff orpingtons now. His name is now Hoot and he is living his best life!
@@justonemorestoryfarm aw that’s awesome news! Did he regain his balance? I was worried about that with mine but she is not only able to walk and eat now but she can also fly and perch! Truly amazing!
My hens were attacked last mid night, thankfully I was working on desktop and was able to save them but one of the hens had received injuries on her neck, the skin was badly torn. I noticed it in the morning only. So cleaned the wound and then stitched it. Up til now it's doing fine. Don't know for the future.
Thank you for reaching out. I am so sorry that your hens were attacked! Thank goodness you were there to save them! Chickens are resilient when it comes to healing from wounds. That’s great that you cleaned the wound. I am happy to hear she is doing fine. I hope she continues to do well. The predator may try to come back, unfortunately. It can be so hard to protect your chickens from all predators. I made a video on the precautions I take to protect against predators in the hopes it may help others with some predator proofing ideas. m.th-cam.com/video/fUnUTGa6HPU/w-d-xo.html
One of our hens just got attacked by a hawk (we chased it off before too much damage was done just a couple small lacerations) and I'm hoping she makes a full recovery 🙏
I am so sorry your hen got attacked! Thank goodness you were there! Chickens are very resilient. I hope she makes a full recovery. She is so fortunate to have you to take care of her.
Thank you for this video. One of our pups got to one of our chicks & I am looking for advice on how to properly treat. I am so sorry that happened to your flock & glad you were able to save one. Not sure if you ever figured out what type of predator it was, but Owls attack like that! There is a lot of fat & nutrients in the brain & it's much easier to carry off with the head than the whole body.
+Saint City Magick You are so very welcome. I hope your chick makes a speedy recovery. Puppies love to grab chicks and chickens. I am continuing to train my puppy to my chickens. He likes to pick them up and carry them around. I have seen a lot of improvement with him by picking up my chicken and correcting him when he tries to mouth it. I tell him “mine” in a stern voice and it gets him to back off. Chickens are resilient and I have had great luck with them healing well by cleaning out their wounds, applying Blu Kote and then keeping them inside my garage in a kennel to keep their wounds clean and allowing them to rest. I am happy to report Mr. Roo made a full recovery and is living his best life with his own group of hens on another farm. As for the predator, I never was able to figure out what it was. It hasn’t returned so I am not sure. I make sure all my chicks and chickens go in their coop for night now just to be safe. It certainly could have been an owl. Thank you for reaching out and I wish you the best of luck with your chick.
I don’t know what got my rooster but his face/beak area is so badly injured His eyes are ok but his beak is broken in on top, the bottom is at least in two pieces I can’t tell much beyond that because it’s caked on with dry blood and dirt He can not eat right now He won’t eat from hand Understandable I tried to clean his face but I didn’t want to drown him because idk how this works exactly The rest of his body does seem ok Hens are ok I pray he can heal up a tiny bit to at least eat in a few days and not die He does crow though sounds clear and loud
thanks for UR care & support for UR rooster & thanks Allah almighty he survived # give him Vit A , D , E , B 1 , B2 , B6 , B12 & Vitamin E as well # 👍🇵🇰
Two of my chickens were fighting and 1 got a very bloody face . I separated her for 2 days and then noticed she can't open her eyes. I've tried putting a warm wet towel on her face to maybe soften any blood that may be preventing her eyes from opening. I have here in the house now and am helping her eat and drink. What should I do for her eyes?
I had a couple hens with bite wounds and open gashes from a coyote attack. I cleaned and sprayed on the same Blu-kote you're using, as recommended by the pet store, but found out lots of people online are saying blu-kote is not good for chickens. Doe you have any advice on this? Thank you!
Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry you hens were attacked by coyotes. I hope they made a full recovery. I do use Blu-Kote off label for my chickens. I have never seen any negative side effects in my chickens from Blu-Kote. Their wounds have healed up so well and quickly when I use it, however, without scientific research done specifically on chickens and Blu-Kote we can’t know for sure it’s long term effects on chickens as well as their eggs and meat for consumption. At this time, it is not labeled for poultry or animals for consumption so I use it at my own risk. There are other options for poultry wounds if you want something labeled for poultry, I just can’t speak to their effectiveness at this time. I wish you and your chickens all the best 😃
How would you get your rooster to drink water? My barred rock survived an attack today and really hope she gets through this. I am using blu kote but after watching your video I have hope.
Thanks for reaching out. I just held a bowl of water up to him and he drank when he wanted to. If I had a chicken that was too weak to drink, I would use a small syringe and drop a drop of water at a time into their mouth being careful not to cause them to aspirate. I hope your barred rock is feeling better with your supportive care and making a full recovery. I wish you and your chicken all the best.
I have chicken that applied thick Hen Healer to the wounds and did not flush out the wounds first. Is it too late to do that? The Hen Healer seems to be hard to get off.
Thanks for reaching out. I hope your chicken is healing up well with Hen Healer. I haven’t tried it, but the reviews are good on it. I try to always flush out wounds before treating them just to rinse out any debris first and ward off infection. That’s great that Hen Healer protects the wound from dirt and insects. That’s awesome that you had that available. I wish you and your chicken all the best.
Help me please , my chicken got attack on the head her feathers plucked and bloody I can see a bit of white , we cleaned her wounds and she’s eating but I don’t really know
I am so sorry your chicken got attacked. Great job getting her wound cleaned and making sure she eats. I find that Blu-kote spray works great for my chickens wounds. If you can keep her safely separated from the flock while she heals, that can speed up the healing process. I wish you and your chicken all the best.
It very well could be. We certainly have those around here. I haven"t seen any signs of the predator since so it is still a mystery. Thanks for watching and reaching out.
That certainly is a possibility. To this day we haven’t had any more predator attacks or caught any suspicious activity on camera so it remains a mystery. Thankfully, Mr. Roo is living his best life on a farm with his own flock of Buff Orpington hens. Thanks for watching 😄
@@justonemorestoryfarm the missing head is what I have seen from the weasel family. If you have a dead one that is intact, it really helps to skin the head and neck so you can see the teeth marks. The size and spacing can give a lot of clues. It’s good to hear that he is alive and well. You certainly made a lot of sacrifices for his recovery. Blessings.
This just happened to my chicken but much much much worse. Hopefully she will pull through like he did

Cickens have a high enough body temp that they can live through crazy wounds, bacteria cant grow well on them.
