BluKote and Vetrycyn is a must to have on hand. I have a little medical kit for my chickens for emergencies. Right now I believe I have a hen with a broken leg. I have splinted it and isolated her. Baby aspirin too. She first could not put any weight. After four days in splint she is taking a few steps. Hope this works. I am not sure how she injured her leg. Totally secured run from any predators
Oh no. I’m so sorry. Calypso hurt hers jumping off a roost 🤦🏻♀️ so I’ll do a video soon on how to adjust things as your chickens get older. Good grief! Need to make chicken canes and walkers
I'm so glad I found this video! My dog got one of my hens that went over the coop fence. No teeth wounds but he ripped a lot of back feathers out and now raw skin. I treated her with the vetericyn and feeding her electrolytes by dropper. I had already isolated her to a container just like yours (luckily had all this in place) . Only thing I didn't know about was the "baby" aspirin - I had some cat food and crushed the aspirin into it. Earlier I got her to take a few meal worms but she hasn't tried to eat the cat food. I mixed the electrolytes into it and trying to get it in by dropper full now. She's still panting a bit. I'm thinking about crushing another aspirin and putting into the water/dropper. I'm going to check later on your follow up vids for this hen to see how the integration went. Thank you so much for this information!
You’re so welcome! Keep her in a quiet, dark place as she might be in shock. I’m so glad you were prepared! I’m here for you. ✌🏻❤️🐓 theMama@realsimplemama.com

The only stuff I have is blue cote. I think my rooster got attacked by a raccoon. His eyes are in bad shape and i can't get close enough to touch cause he freaks out. So what can I do? Please help.
Hi there. I’m not a vet but you can do a few things - keep him in a dark place because he will be in shock. You can use hydrogen peroxide diluted by half with water to clean open wounds. Wrap him in a towel so his legs, feet, and wings are contained and you can better examine him. He should have access to clean water but otherwise he just needs to be in a calm quiet place. Clean his wounds at least once a day and see if you can better examine him. Finally consider locating a bird vet or emergency clinic close by if you can. ✌🏻❤️🐓
Hello my chicken was attacked by another chicken on the side of her neck i have the spray but there is still dirt and idk how to clean it and also there is blood but not bleeding
It’s been two and a half weeks now - either this weekend or Monday I’m moving her to a private coop so she can literally stretch her legs, and I’ll see how she’s doing then. She gets a bath tomorrow 😆😳😫
I would sterilize sharp scissors with hydrogen peroxide and do small motions to cut it the best you can. Then clean the wound again. To hold her still, wrap her in a towel so she can’t kick nor flap her wings (but that she can still breathe). ✌🏻❤️🐓
Hello, my chicken got pecked, I heard you're supposed to leave the wound wet/moist with neosporin/ Vaseline/honey after spraying it with the veterycin. Is this true?
In my experience it depends on where - if it’s around the eye, or comb/wattles, then I say yes. Otherwise there’s no need, in my opinion. But I’m not a medical professional. Make sure the Neosporin is NOT pain-reducing. ✌🏼❤️🐓
@@realsimplemama it's on the top of her head behind her eyes. Looks like her ear was bleeding too but I was nervous about flushing her ear with water/saline. I flushed it as best as I could. We're getting the veterycin today, my boyfriend got the rooster booster wound spray but I'm exchanging it cause it's too close to her eyes and don't want to spray her eyes. I'm worried about the neosporin thing, so you are saying to keep the wound wet with neosporin? My concern is if it's always wet from the ointment how does it have any opportunity to dry up & scab over?
That’s my thought exactly. I personally don’t worry about keeping the wound sealed. The Vetricyn you can spray 10x/day and it won’t hurt. It air dries and keeps everything clean. I totally agree with you, those creams that you mentioned are barrier creams which means they don’t let any air through. I would be worried about a secondary infection if you use that. In the future, maybe put that stuff on the first day but afterwards I am with you and I would let it get the air. ✌🏼❤️🐓

Hey - I would clean it with Vetricyn or diluted hydrogen peroxide and then see how it looks. It’ll be hard to keep clean in that area, could it have been a brown recluse? Also do a full medical check on her to make sure she has no other lacerations. I honestly don’t know enough to do a full video on that, other than to say everyone has predators everywhere, even in the city. 😖
I am new to raising chickens. A night time animal recently got one of our chickens. About two days later we noticed another's leg was wounded since it was hopping on one foot. we brought it in the house and cleaned it with the only thing we had on hand rubbing alcohol and then oregano oregano oil externally on the wound. then today I noticed the finger nails and toes are starting to turn black. Has anyone experienced this where it looks like the infection is spreading? There are no farm vets near me. The closest is about 3 hours away. I am going to try putting a pinch of oregano oil, raw honey, electrolyte, apple cider vinegar and blackseed oil into water as a natural antibiotic...
Hello - I’m not a vet but I personally would wash and dress the wound with - diluted hydrogen peroxide or pure Vetricyn if you have it; Neosporin or wound dressing which does not have the pain additive; and then letting it get air (or wrapping it firmly without being too tight depending on if it’s looking infected at the site). I haven’t heard of this happening before so I would keep a close eye on it and watch the chicken for other signs of shock. If possible let them rest in a cool dark quiet place like a dog crate with a towel over it. I’m so sorry. ✌🏻❤️🐓
I'm devastated over here... Any advice for facial wounds? My alpha hen's eyes are swollen shut from what I think is a raccoon attack! Her beak is misaligned a bit too. Her breathing is a bit labored and I can hear gurgling from her nose, I think. But she's up and walking around... Just clearly can't see. I'm so torn between waiting this swelling out to see if her eyes are actually injured or just swollen... Or just putting her down. How do you decide if the wound is just too much for her to recover? I guess that's a dumb question. I'm just so upset and genuinely heartbroken.
Oh no I’m so terribly sorry. Quickly I’d say if she’s acting like she wants to eat or drink, she perks up a bit when she hears your voice, etc. then she’s showing me she wants to live. You can do a cold pack (not ice directly on her skin) for 15 minutes at a time, and also use hydrogen peroxide diluted by half to clean her up. Eyes heal very quickly due to survival adaptation so I would think within 24 hours you’d get a much better idea of what is going on.
