- Mirza Ghalib is an Indian biographical television drama series written and produced by poet Gulzar (Sampooran Singh Kalra). The series was aired on Doordarshan National in 1988. The lead actor was Naseeruddin Shah who played the role of Mirza Ghalib, the famous classical Urdu and Persian poet from Mughal Empire during British colonial rule. The series featured ghazals sung and composed by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh. Its music has since been recognised as Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh's magnum opus enjoying a cult following in the Indian subcontinent.

When it comes to sheer expressiveness of poetry, nothing would match the versatility and range & beauty of Bangla. Urdu can be more or less understood by Hindi speakers, so that increases its aura. Totally agree though that Urdu is as Indian as anything else and should be encouraged

What a beautiful voice. I saw "Mirza Ghalib", the movie, with my departed grand mother. I think everyword spoken was classic, I saw it in Karachi, Pakistan. Every word was out of this world. I have a deep admiration for the poet and his poetry. I never paid attention to urdu when i was in Pakistan, but now I adore it. I wish I could pass this passion to my children. India and Pakistan should both try to promote urdu and the poetry. Nasiruddin Shah is the best actor, especially when he talks in urdu. Best of luck to him and urdu.

As an actor Nasiruddin sir no one can comment or doubt on his depth and contribution but apart from this he has gifted voice and he is one of the best narrators I have ever seen
you breathed life in the poetry of Ghalib and took us three hundred years back in history on the wings of your strong character.
