The whole point of nuzlockes, in the beginning, was to tell stories. I remember reading the original nuzlocke webcomic years ago. The failed runs are as important as the victories. If every story ended in victory, what would be the point of telling them?
I think I (we as a society?) have forgotten about this aspect. I mean, a lot of the animated story videos of nuzlockes probably hit the mark. But taking nuzlocking so seriously/so competitively probably takes something of that away. Interesting thing to remember.
I'm currently going through a randomized nuzlocke of White, and I've already failed once at the first gym. The first gym trainer had a freaking Dialga that crushed my precious Shelmet (Burgundy), but was defeated by my tanky Umbreon (Charcoal). The gym leader then laughed as his Ferrothorn whittled away everyone else on my team. I rerolled the randomizer and started again, and have since made it to the second gym. For my story, I ultimately plan to tell the "successful*" run. However, I want to incorporate the failed run(s) into this story. One way is to make reference to horrific events, like the Dialga encounter killing Burgundy being a nightmare. If this run is successful, it would shake my character (Prism) as she has a Whirlipede named Burgundy; this plus seeing her starter Chimchar is always so jumpy in combat (he has a Timid nature) makes her vow to protect her Pokemon no matter what. *Successful may not necessarily be defeating Ghetsis, but at lest completing the objective of finding Prism's dad and maybe solving the mystery of what happened to Unova.
Ok, he could have kept the defeat AND also restarted. It's not like anything precludes him from re-attempting the challenge just because you're "trying to tell a story" (which, for the record, is something I appreciate) I wouldn't mind even if it was a separate video after he took a break
I used to read a lot of the nuzlocke stories and I can assure you the ones with zero deaths were just boring. There was no interesting overcoming of adversity, just a lot of patting oneself on the back. The ones with lots of death were more interesting.
Thanks for pointing this out, I've always heard Flygon's commentary of the ridiculous nature of the letter delivering aspect, but I've just never read the letters, I had no idea until now that there was comedy gold splattered on to those scrolls!
Just realizing that normal types are godly in this challenge, they'd just have a ghost weakness and be able to hit everything else (including ghost) for either neutral or super effective damage.

I actually like when the Nuzlockes don’t always result in a win, and that slideshow at the end for all the fallen team members was awesome. This was a cool run :)
I honestly like this. So many Pokemon TH-camr content is "Can I do this thing?" where the video is basically resetting or some sort of repetitive steps until it is beat. This video where you CAN lose is an actual "Can I beat it like this?" with a one and done
See, I really liked the Inverse Battle mechanic from Gen 6 and seeing this Nuzlocke had me definitely interested from the get-go, as if all your other Nuzlockes didn't. Lliramuza may just be my favorite nickname ever. And Daddy Stone's letter is pretty depressing this time, at least we know Nosey can give hugs, creepy as they may be. Win, lose or draw, you really are like that train in that one Denzel Washington movie.
It's so cool to hear the TS references. I never expect how it would come, but I'm always thrilled when it happens. Also, FlygonHG playthroughs are so amusing!
Genuinely my favourite channel and the humour and commentary in this video is exactly why! Also love how you didn't just reset after Roxanne, I really love seeing these kinds of challenges where major mistakes are embraced and accepted and seeing the delights of nuzlockes where people are unexpectedly forced to play the game differently with different Pokémon, especially in a topsy-turvy challenge like this one! Thanks for the video yet again, kind sir!
Challenge made my head hurt with thinking in reverse. Really neat idea to see played out. Also, does failing an inverted challenge mean you actually succeeded?
I love this. I wish Inverse Battles were brought back in recent generations, the different strategies that it comes with were always fascinating to see
Love keeping the failures as seperate runs and not forcing yourself to complete them :) Makes it far more tense sometimes and this way you can add this specific challenge to your "To beat in the future." List and always return to them.
What a great concept! I really like this change of pace and would love to see a retry. Though ofc only when you be down to give it another shot Dr Flygon. Last thing any of us want is to see you get burnt out to the point where you stop enjoying yourself:)
I don't mind run failures being posted I actually prefer when theres a mix of successes and failures for nuzlocks being posted it makes it very enjoyable and keeps me excited for the next video to be posted. You hit the nail on the head of why it is important to post outcomes at the end of the video. Thank you for constantly making entertaining videos and having unique and interesting runs :D
“Taborc morbs all over Juan’s team” I see what you did there. Amazing concept, hope they do one for a Gen 4 or Gen 5 game! And seeing Spinda and Tropius kick ass in a Nuzlocke is so cool to watch.
I really like this and these challenges, thank you. It does bother me a little bit that you weren’t able to fix the inaccurate type inversion, but I understand that more might be factored in for this than I am aware of. Regardless great video
I loved this video so much. Definitely one of my favorites. Trying to turn my instinctive type matchup knowledge around was TOUGH. And don't worry, you weren't the only one who struggled with Aney...htgim... No, that's not right ... And regarding burnout, I feel you. I don't know if this inverse challenge came before Blaze Black/Volt White 2 redux, but i really felt that you were getting frustrated with that series and challenge mode's unfairness. I guess that contributed to the burnout feeling. All this to say, I'm glad you chose what you chose with BW/VW2, and I'm glad you chose to do what you did in this video!
Great video! The losses make the wins feel like wins, instead of just inevitabilities. You do a fantastic job of always keeping us on our toes til the end.
Inverse battles are an awesome, creative idea for nice locks that I would love to see Triton other generations as well. It can get a flight to many unexpected heroes that usually get overlooked
long time fan, just commenting to say that I really like and support the decision not to tell us the outcome or give us clues to if the nuzlocke was 100% completed. Really makes the videos that much more exciting. Also, do whatever you need to do to avoid burnout. We all really appreciate the amount of content you come out with as it is and I think most of your fans prefer to watch your videos knowing that you were enjoying these challenges rather than really grinding out something that was very taxing for you behind the scenes. Thanks!
Great challenge and well played. :) I hope you know, there isn't pressure to put out only videos where you win, or to go that extra mile to restart. Seeing a run where you lose is refreshing, especially given how hard fought it was.
I love repeatedly pressing the wrong button and re-watching the start of the ad instead of skipping it. Great video as always, Don't know how I missed it for a year.
I really love your nuzlockes, they always put a smile on my face, you are very charismatic, and if you feel like not finish the challenge, it's KOK, I passed a very good time with your video. Keep going, you're doing great
That was really entertaining to watch. I can't believe how many times your opponent stopped on 1 HP. The inverted type chart really made me think of why you were making certain moves and I'm sure it was extremely tough for you, especially early game, to adjust.
I actually just finished my first-ever Nuzlocke challenge earlier today. I was totally inspired by you, and wanted to give it a shot. The way you ended your video was really poignant, and a good lesson for brand-new Nuzlockers: pobody's nerfect.
Tsk, what is it with old men thinking younger women will come crawling back to them after getting to experience more of the world? Honestly, good on Nosepass! Her career is taking off; I hear she effortlessly curbstomped a Treecko recently. Let her flourish! Like, I feel bad for Nosey, sure, but it's time Devon pulled his pants up and finally learned to be a dad. 😤 Edit: "Speaking of people who are ashamed of me, it's time to fight my father." The daddy issues keep coming and they don't stop coming. 😢
Thank you for not trying twice I really enjoy the mix ups. Like don’t get me wrong nothing makes me happier then a 40 min flygon vid (lots of things but it’s a figure of speech)
Great video my man, was enjoyable to watch and I liked the way you handled the end, along with sticking with the seemingly failed run. Since this is inverse locke I want to mention an interesting thing, there's a popular and difficult fan game called Pokemon Reborn, and with the latest big update it added settings to change aspects of the game. One of those is an inverse password. There are some other passwords too, one that sets all the opponent's pokemon to have 252 in every ev, and a password for each mono type. Some absolute masochistic mad lads have started and completed runs since then with the inverse and 252 in all evs password, as a *mono steel* type run. Nicknamed, the Tinverselocke.
I appreciate the upload of this nuzlocke to change things up. It's pretty humbling to show that things don't always work out, but that's ok. And I also support the self care and try8ng to avoid burn out. It seems like a lot of creators are starting experience it so do what you feel is right man.
As much as this was something you didn’t want to do again right away, i’d love to see you come back to this!! 💚 it was super interesting to make a whole playthrough based on inverse battles
This was a really fun one, great concept and execution. Also really liked the in memoriam section at the end with all the cute superlatives. And the nosepass letters are always a joy
I'm a big fan of these unique gameplay challenges. Type-specific nuzlockes are fun but a bit predictable, but I love when you have a premise where I have no idea how you're going to solve incoming problems. Stuff like this, the snaplockes, etc are really enjoyable. I'd love to see some sort of extra-ultra-hardcore-nuzlocke at some point. Like extending from how you give a couple extra rules for kalos runs but even crazier (could be like "I can only use 3 move slots, I have to edit my pokemon to have 0 IVs and EVs, etc).
I really like the format of showing the challenges you don't win. I don't watch to get a yes/no answer to if the challenge is possible, but instead for your story of the attempt. Apart from not spoiling the ending with the length of the video, it also allows you to revisit the challenge when you feel ready. And that's more content 🙃
I think this is the first time I've seen a failed Nuzlocke from you and it was a pleasant (unpleasant surprise for you, maybe) surprise! Your commentary ALWAYS keeps me on the edge of my seat with your numerous bait and switch lines which certainly makes your videos extremely fun and exciting to watch. I honestly couldn't guess how your battles would go because nothing is ever certain in your videos. More power to you!
I find it so sweet that you explain why you don’t redo a challenge but don’t feel like you need to!! This challenge gave me a headache watching so I can’t even imagine how it was playing 😅
I personally like the idea of not winning every challenge/taking some L s for surprise value, tough I only like it when like in this case it is certain weather the challenge was possible/impossible or at least pheasable/unpheasable (so in this case we know a win was spossible, therefore we don't need to see it to satisfy our curiosity)
The in memorium section was definitely a great addition... but you need to stop apologising for other creative choices, this is your channel after all. 👌
A very interesting run! I feel like some of the results of inverse typings made some of the gym leaders easier or harder than before and that's a refreshing change of pace.
Hey FlygonHG just wanted to let you know this is one of my favorite videos of yours, don't be afraid to lose one of your Nuzlocks. Makes there be bigger impact for the wins and the loses.
Love this one so much man! Thanks for sharing the times you don’t complete the run like you wanted to! Really makes for interesting content and makes me want to watch more!
I gotta admit it can be vaguely depressing watching how easily you grace through these challenges sometimes. Almost like you're pretty damn good at this Nuzlocking business. So thankyou for showing the wipe, I feel better about my [lack of] skills :D
At first I did not see the naming scheme because I thought you were seriously naming your treecko "Elit(e) Pecs" and it wouldn't be too far off considering the run (and my bias). Fun as always! Lovely to come online to find a new HG video!
your videos single handled made me dig out my old game boy sp, and preform my first nuzlocke on fire red, thank you so much for sharing your entertaining persona and impressive knowledge of pokemon with the world! keep up the great content :)

Fun fact my first ever full odds shiny was a claydol in sky pillar…….who self destructed when I was trying to catch it
“Taborc: the blind”
Poor taborc getting the whole run blamed on it lol 😂
Challenge made my head hurt with thinking in reverse. Really neat idea to see played out. Also, does failing an inverted challenge mean you actually succeeded?
this run was insane and also really makes you think about how many mons benefit from the inverse types
You are my favorite Nuzlocker. Your content is top tier, and I love how you've branched out in terms of unique challenges.
I love this. I wish Inverse Battles were brought back in recent generations, the different strategies that it comes with were always fascinating to see
I really enjoyed that you showed a run that went all the way to the end and didn’t win. Fantastic subversion.
I'd love to see this in later generations with the type chart changes + the introduction of fairy - that'd be super interesting!
Love keeping the failures as seperate runs and not forcing yourself to complete them :) Makes it far more tense sometimes and this way you can add this specific challenge to your "To beat in the future." List and always return to them.
This reminds me of my Pokemon Y Steel type run(Which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND) when I got absolutely destroyed by the Inverse Battle House
That was awesome! Please do this again! The whipe was so suspenseful, I wasn't sure until the garydos whether you'd make it or not
What a great concept!
Great video! Would love to see another one like this especially if the bug type was fixed regarding normal type weakness.
taborc was the obvious MVP
my favourite part was when he said "its Borcking time!". everyone cheered
This is such an insane idea for a nuzlocke. Wonderful
Thanks!
I never get tired of hearing "my corgi puppy Poppy", it's like one of those things that are just fun to say/hear!
your narration style and production value is great! as someone else mentioned the variation is a breath of fresh air, keep up the great work!
This was really interesting. I would definitely watch more of these
Love these unique challenges! Makes a classic emerald run super interesting to think about
I would love to see this challenge beaten! One of my favourite concepts from your vids :)
Great video as always, Don't know how I missed it for a year.
love the video! thanks for letting me make the thumbnail. u were lovely to work with!! -sasha/fluff
Adnips loss hit me so hard, the ending didnt help but i liked the in memorial section a lot. GG Flygon!
another cool challenge in this same vein would be switching physical and special stats, or defensive and offensive sats!
Edit: "Speaking of people who are ashamed of me, it's time to fight my father."
The daddy issues keep coming and they don't stop coming.
It might be fun to determine the type chart at random and you have to deduce it as you go along
This one was super creative, and easily one of your best narration works. So many moments caught me off guard.
how about 'inverted' stats challenge? Swap: HP - Speed, Attack - Defense, Sp Attack - Sp Defense.
Great video! Would love to see this challenge in another game or just another try at this. Loved the ending :-)
I like this channel's style of presenting the challenges
I personally like the idea of not winning every challenge/taking some L s for surprise value, tough I only like it when like in this case it is certain weather the challenge was possible/impossible or at least pheasable/unpheasable (so in this case we know a win was spossible, therefore we don't need to see it to satisfy our curiosity)
The in memorium section was definitely a great addition... but you need to stop apologising for other creative choices, this is your channel after all. 👌
The quality content you continue to bring is truly like that train from that Denzel Washington movie
Honestly I love this video, well done flygon. Maybe you can do this challenge again for round 2!
Love this one so much man! Thanks for sharing the times you don’t complete the run like you wanted to! Really makes for interesting content and makes me want to watch more!
despite the finale message of the video, i'd love to see again this inverted ruleset in another nuzlocke! great video!!
I gotta admit it can be vaguely depressing watching how easily you grace through these challenges sometimes. Almost like you're pretty damn good at this Nuzlocking business. So thankyou for showing the wipe, I feel better about my [lack of] skills :D
Yay! Something to keep me occupied since I couldn't go to the convention I wanted. Thanks Dr Flygon, this one looks really interesting!
I was confused as to why Aron backwards and not Aggron backwards, but I understood
At first I did not see the naming scheme because I thought you were seriously naming your treecko "Elit(e) Pecs" and it wouldn't be too far off considering the run (and my bias). Fun as always! Lovely to come online to find a new HG video!
Loved this challenge :) I adore your creative approaches to the game regardless whether you win or not. Super nice to watch!
I'd just like to mention the fact that you so effortlessly, yet properly, gender the pokemon you're talking about is amazing.
This is a really cool idea, nice!
"Quad resist to water, excellent for this 7/10 region" *chef's kiss* amazing
I currently have covid and your video has made me a little bit happy. Thank you very much.
Such a fun video! You should do a video where every pokemon has the ability Contrary!
@Sniper Yeah i think he might have to have a self-imposed rule where he doesnt use moves like that. Otherwise it might be too easy.
This is a really interesting concept for a challenge run
This is FlygonHG at his best. Absolute chaos, stubborn decisions, and hilarious storytelling xD
"super effective Rock Tomb" feels wrong when you're fighting Brawly
Loved the twist at the end. Please feel free to show runs like this to us. :)
your videos single handled made me dig out my old game boy sp, and preform my first nuzlocke on fire red, thank you so much for sharing your entertaining persona and impressive knowledge of pokemon with the world! keep up the great content :)
The letter and ending were emotional omg haha. Another great video, man!!
