  • Barry has finished his last creel and now sets about getting the rope ready to attach to the new fleets ahead of the new fishing season.
    He heads down to Victoria Harbour to uncoil the ropes before heading back to the farm to finish off.

    Good to see you back at it Barry. Roping looked a good exercise for the arm 💪
    A lot of preparation before you even put the boat back into the water. Hopefully All that prep brings Great reward in 2024. Like the saying goes "you only get out of it, what you've put into it" and you have certainly put the man hours in.
    Take Care and may your recovery be speedy with no set backs 👍

      Hi Keith buddy.
      How's my favourite 2 getting on?
      Yes it's floaty rope Keith..I've used leaded before, and had nothing but bother with it, so floaty and a wee bit of chain to take up the slack is old skool, but it works a treat.
      So, as the saying goes, if it's not broken, don't fix it!😂😂😂😂
      Much love to you both, we hope you have a wonderful weekend.

      Hi.
      No, I don't use leaded rope for my leaders. Tried that 1st season, I had nothing but bother with them gripping the ground.
      So back to what I know best.
      Floaty rope and a wee bit of chain.
      But, that's what works best for me, in my area, it may work differently for you in your area.😁👌

    Glad your healing well Baz..
    Question..
    When your putting the pots in the water for the first time you soak them correct?
    Is there any reason why you cant soak them in the ford you cross coming out your property. This will surely do the same as soaking in the sea all albeit its fresh not salt water. ?

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Graham.
      As always, thank you so much for your comment and your question.
      You are right, I could do that, but the logistics and the sheep wouldn't make it viable ( sheep are like goats, they eat anything🙈😂😂😂). I got a few damaged creels to prove it!😂😂😂
      Also, fresh water is actually damaging to the wood fibres itself, that's why when we shoot new wooden creels, we leave them for over a week to soak, it makes all the difference in hardness of the wood, and I can only assume its the salt water that does that 😁👌
      I hope that answers your question, bud?
      Anymore just fire away😁👌
      Enjoy your weekend.
      All the best.😁

  • @jamesallen712
    @jamesallen712 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Interesting how you set your gear up, much like we did welk pots. I am guessing you have a set measure for the depth you set the creels that dictate the line to the weight and then on to the first pot and that dictates the number of creels per string.

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's it bang on James.
      For me, it is 30ftm from the flag to weight, then every 12ftm that per creel.
      14 becketts in total, 2 weights 12 for creels.😁👌
      Other guys do 40ftm, etc, and longer or shorter on the beckett.
      I'll be doing a vlog on how and why I do what I do in the creel making series we have planned, that should give everyone a clearer picture 😁👌
      Hope you have a great weekend, bud.

      Those feed bags are brilliant, I can get 3 fleets in them, and they pack away flat, when they are done, and the best of all, they are free....I stole them from my brother in law.🙈😂😂😂😂 tight scotsman!
      It's only for a short period, while we wait to shoot them. ( that shouldn't be long before they hit the water 😁👌)
