    Have sat and watched almost 2hrs straight of vidoes from you guys.
    2nd comment I've made and this is whats on tv at my house....my household loves anything that launches from shoulder fired artillery to bb guns.
    I only wish there was somehwere in my area that had such a great long range to shoot at as much as the company of men that appreciates it as well.
    Many thanks from me and mine as we are a subscriber now to this channel.
    One last thing to say...my wife wants a shiloh sharps almost as bad as i do.
    God bless this country i love.

    I wish I could afford a Sharps rifle, but I picked up an original 1879 Remington Rolling Block Argentine for a quarter the cost of a Sharps (would gladly buy a Sharps if I had the funds) in .43 Spanish with an amazing bore and rifling. I plan on working with it and getting some loads developed soon.

    I'm looking at buying a Pedersoli Sharps in 45-70, very new to them, I notice in your 45-70 videos that you shoot smokeless, at least that's what it looks like, do you use trapdoor loads or the loads for modern lever guns like Henry and Marlin?

      Hey there Rich -- I'd try several different weights to see which your rifle shoots the best. Work through your loading manual for loads. 350 to 500 grain bullets have worked well for me in this rifle. Keep experimenting and good luck!

    • @SagebrushLongshots

      There are ballistic calculators online and phone apps that if you know your velocity (in your rifle, not what is printed on the box), bullet weight, ballistic coefficient , etc and you have a known zero at some range you can get pretty close at other ranges. Typically you'll have to dial it in, especially at longer ranges as your settings will be different for the same range depending on the direction you are shooting due to rotation of the earth. Then there is wind direction and intensity... the point being is there is no substitute for getting reps with your rifle in a variety of conditions.

    • @SagebrushLongshots
      @SagebrushLongshots  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Montana Vintage Arms sights would be my choice. The quality, repeatability and ease of precision adjustment will get you on target. For targets beyond 1,000 yards I'd choose one of the "Long Range" tall staff variants. Out to 1,000 yards the "Mid-Range" variants will likely suffice. Front sights are a personal choice. For our varying windy conditions a simple post works better as it does not obscure the target while holding off for wind drift. A globe does aid in precision but can limit hold off and/or require more windage adjustment in the sights at longer ranges. It really boils down to choosing the sight that best suits your conditions, needs and abilities.

    Hey, sorta a weird question but I've found myself in an odd situation. I've recently purchased a h&r buffalo classic where someone inlet a perdersoli tang sight into the stock. • @SagebrushLongshots
      @SagebrushLongshots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ericc3327 It really isn't that much different. The tang sight just gives you a wider range of adjustment.
      The best thing to do is get to the range and zero the rifle. If you are starting from scratch start close. 25 yards - 50 yards. Note the settings, then work your way out. If you know your load's velocity and BC you can extrapolate sight settings out to as far as your sight staff is tall. It'll get you close enough to dial in the zero without spending a lot of ammo walking it in.

    Do you use different loads or stick with one load? If you do use different loads, do you re-zero for each load?

    • @SagebrushLongshots
      @SagebrushLongshots  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically we go with one load for most of our shooting, though that may take several iterations to develop and refine. Occasionally we develop different loads for Hunting, softer shooting loads to introduce new shooters and/or economy plinking loads. These sights are easy to adjust and if you note the sight settings it is simple to change settings for different ranges and loads.

    What do you folks think of the Pedersoli vs Shiloh and C Sharps. Are the Italian guns bigger, clunkier in their dimensions, not as accurate? Is it a case of 'save up more $ and get the real deal' or, buy the Pedersoli and have at it? You guys would know first hand with years of side by side comparisons.

    • @SagebrushLongshots
      @SagebrushLongshots  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Italian rifles perform very well and I would not pass one up if I was in the market. They are a good value and a lot easier to come by. I would NOT describe them as clunkier. Like Cars and Guitars refinement beyond a certain point comes at a price. Shilohs are great rifles and hold their value. I've not detected any difference in Grin Intensity after a distant hit.
