Story 2 = I believe that the revenge was due to the sexual harassment more than the $40 owed.

  • @tabeechey
    @tabeechey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +144

The second story is justified, not because of the $40, but because that boss was comfortable pressuring employees into nudity and intimacy. That is predatory behavior, I am glad to see he isn't in a position of power there - I hope he never got into another management role.

That story made me go wtf. WHY did OP go back to the house when the guy was clearly acting creepy/stalky/harrassy? I personally don't care what someone's sexual orientation is...but that dude was very obviously trying to "hook up" and it was clear that he would not be above taking it forcefully if it wasn't offered.

@@immortalsofar5314 I can think of several reasons myself just from my own personal experiences. I'm in my late sixties myself so I know what's what *now,* but in my twenties I was also naive and green as grass. I was/am also first level autistic (which made be overly trusting and ignorant of social cues among other things) and thoroughly asexual, so I can relate to the way OP reacted quite well. Not saying OP must have been like I was in my youth; just saying I can understand how someone can be that naive. I'm an old childless recluse (and technically still a virgin; not that anyone cares about that I am sure) but I'm perfectly happy being so now that I've matured socially. Keeps me safe from most of the more bizarre relationships I keep reading about on Reddit video channels like this one, which still fascinates and amazes me.

My experience with these dushnozzle types its a combination of self important arrogance and drunk on power in their own little fiefdom they figure someone who does the work of 10 people without complaint will let them get away with anything. It almost becomes a game to see how far they can push it sadly most young people don't know how to stand up for them selves. Sadly OP is the exception not the rule.

    • @fridayschild722

It’s all too common. They just don’t value you enough. I was at an advertising job just to fill in the seat at a location and tbh, I did not have the necessary skill sets and learned on the job. My boss was in a different city and did not even meet me for 3 months. The job was basically evangelism of a new media. They basically expected to support the larger digital business team. Well, within 3 months, not only did I pick up the job, but I also closed the biggest piece of business for that office with their toughest client and the head of the digital I was supporting (who was initially nice and sort of took me under her wing) was pissed that I did better than her team and that’s when my boss came down to meet me. During the 2 years in that role, i slogged and was on business calls even the day before my wedding. When I wanted to move internally to another part of the business, my department head , initially dissuaded me, then refused to pick my calls and finally when I got him on line was so mad at me he told me to F off if that’s what I wanted. He told me that he was keeping my bonus and would not give me the promotion that I had earned. I just said, thank you and went to another department and from there moved to a different country doing my job and I was able to secure a job for my Husband too as I made it a condition for me to move (we are in the same industry) zero regrets and we are doing much better financially than if I had stuck to my old job. I still see my old boss occasionally in conferences and I am still cordial. But after I moved, they had to hire 3 people to take on the workload I was managing singlehandedly. That still gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Honestly I have seen worse for less. I had a coeworker that had gotten pregnant at a clothing store I worked at. We were the only ones there doing the work of 6 people while the managers couldn't even finish any of the tasks they start. We were constantly cleaning up after them and getting behind because of it. Well my coworker had a doctors not saying that she cannot lift or move things that are too heavy (idk the specifics). She would just use a small cart to move cloths instead of the gigantic racks. Management started to say horrible things and violating her doctors notes. I got sick at one point with the flu and brought in a doctors note saying that I couldn't come in for 3 days. Taped it to their computer. Didn't read it and didn't care. I almost got fired for it. Luckily they are closed now. And I keep getting stuff mailed to me about they owe a lot of people money and if I'm one of them to call their lawyer. Even if they did I'd never see a penny anyway.

My uncle worked at a garage that repaired big semitrailer trucks and etc. One of the trucks was not lifted right and slipped while my uncle was under it. Part of the tire rod came down and hit my uncle on the head. The assistant manager sent him home. No ride or taken to the hospital. My aunt came home from work and almost died. His head was particularly split open and he had blood down his back and onto the chair and floor. He drove home, he knew that much. The assistant manager was gone by the end of the night. Video surveillance showed everything and the assistant manager screaming at my uncle to go home and threating any worker with being fired if they drove him home. The manager was so furious he sat at the hospital with my Aunt and their kids until he got out of surgery and woke up. The company was taken to court and shut down a couple months later.

just have to say...retaliation, harassment and discrimination over something like having to file workers' comp could be a major nail in the coffin for a company if the worker can prove that in a clear-cut way. workers' comp is federal law on the state level, and there are laws and regulations that are in place to help protect workers who were injured on the job. if anyone faces things like this, make DOUBLY and triply sure to document everything that happens while you're on workers' comp, and everything that happens afterwards - including possibly having a coworker who can help support your claim. because if your state allows it, you may be able to make a retaliation claim against your company (different states have different workers' comp laws and how they allow employers to provide it) or at least make sure you get the care that they're obligated by law to give you

Companies are supposed to carry workers compensation insurance so that if a worker has to take off and makes a claim, the company doesn't have to pay, the insurance company does, but a lot of smaller businesses, or shops that started as small businesses don't have them and after they became larger companies they never bothered to get said insurance.

Depending on how many work comp filings there are and the severity, the company has to pay higher premiums for both work comp insurance and regular insurance. I was fired after a work comp issue followed by heart surgery. I was too expensive to keep on and too invested in doing things the right way. I chose the nuclear option. So I don't know a lot about what happens when someone files for workman's comp, but I have a story that might shed a little light.
My sister's boyfriend, let's call him L, works in maintenence in a factory. A few days ago there was an incident involving a man's hand being literally crushed in a machine, when a hand shouldn't have been able to fit in the space anyway. This was a man who had worked there for so long he refused help from his coworkers because he knew the only way to lift the piece off his hand would be to run his entire arm through.
Firemen had to use the Jaws of Life to pry a space big enough for them to get his hand out before he could be sent to the hospital, and since then he has lost all but his thumb and middle finger. He has to relearn how to do everything with his non-dominant hand.
Of course he was required to take a drug test in case he was on anything, which he passed, and now OSHA is doing a very serious investigation. L said he found a bunch of possible violations and management had every single one of them removed/replaced or fixed, including the part that did the crushing, within days of the incident.
The management in the story probably had OSHA sniffing around and was pissed that he cost the company time, money, and possibly labor fines and was trying to make an example out of OP.

I used to work at target a few years back while I was in college. I was lifting a box full of bags to restock my register and help out a coworker who couldn’t lift it. Ended up hurting my shoulder pretty badly. Strained my bicep and multiple other muscles in my shoulder and had to wear a sling for a while. They made it extremely difficult for me to even file worker’s compensation and when I did they denied it even though I was doing part of my job. Then my managers gave me a lot of shitty tasks and still expected me to work on my lane like nothing happened. Jokes on them, I was still faster with one arm than most of the people who had both arms working.

For Nissan, Surveys was done by a third party, but we were told to ask the customers for "Excellent" on our surveys or to bring it in to us.
Bonuses for Sales People are different from dealership to dealership. While I can only speak for the dealership I worked for, I think some of the description is not valid for all dealerships, at least in the USA.

So workmans comp is like this: they have to pay you full wages and any benifits for the entire time your off, including any extensions the doctors see fit. On top of them having to potentially jump through some big hoops with OSHA depending on severity of the injury and what caused it. They are also down any employee and have to delegate any responsibilities to others. When you have a Jack of all trades like that and they get hurt its a kick in th balls. Thats why most places like this have doctors they are kind of in bed with. The company pays the doctor and the doctor tells the person "it's not that bad, go back to work." Workers comp can be very difficult to get depending on the state.

Workmans comp, if i am not mistaken, is supposed to act like an insurance account. The owner of the company is supposed to put in X amount of money per year based off of number of employees and when an employee is injured, HR investigates the work place injury, to make sure injury wasnt caused by negligence and passes out money to the injured party. I believe it is all medical costs directly caused by the injury and partial pay for time off.

If this is in the US, Workers Compensation is an insurance policy. So they may have a deductible and if they make a claim it can affect their premium for a few years. And since it’s state regulated, some states will even require a state safety inspection after a bad injury. But Workers Comp itself cannot fine you, cite you, or shut you down... that would all be OSHA or a state governing agency.

My husband was a heavy equipment operator and was on a job site and the equipment ended up cutting the tip of his right middle finger off and taking the nail off of his index finger. But since he was in the union the company couldn’t do anything otherwise union wouldn’t send that company workers anymore

there are workers comp laws in certain states that protect employees from this sort of retaliation. this also smacks of disability discrimination and FMLA leave retaliation.

Worker's Compensation varies by country and even in the US varies by state. When Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor of California he set in place certain regulations that limits the amount of money injured workers can receive, encourages faster settlement of cases, you probably don't need an attorney unless the employer or Worker's Compensation Board are denying your claim.

Whenever someone gets injured and it gets reported to worker's comp, the insurance company follows up with employee and employer. Employee is on light duty or not working at all, depending on doctor's orders. If a claim is made, the insurance policy goes up when it comes time for renewal. Some employers try to avoid claims by paying the employee in cash or simply dismissive of the accident... Shady business. Some people actively get hired and injure themselves on purpose, trying to claim worker's comp...but most of the time, that's employer's fault for not taking more care during hiring process.

Usually workers comps are taken before a board and then investigated. If they find OP was at fault they do not have to pay, if they find the business was at fault then the business does pay and normally they have to follow the recommendations of "the businesses" doctors. If the business is shady then the doctor might be shady too. That is when my dad (an auditor for the IRS) can step in. Most of the time if the business is shady so is their finances.

My employer is pretty awesome regarding work comp so I don't see any bad effects on the business besides staffing shortages.
Businesses pay work comp insurance so they should have the costs covered by that.
Edit: apparently my job is awesome. It's a job with high rates of injuries but they will bend over backwards to help you.
They will push you to see a doctor for a paper cut rather than have you work injured and there's always light duty work.
They either make it look like it doesn't hurt the company or it actually doesn't.

I'm not an expert, but as I understand it, Workers Comp is a lot like an Insurance Company so when a Worker's Comp Claim is filed, the premiums that company has to pay goes through the roof and if enough Claims get filed in a given period of time, the Company gets Investigated for Unsafe/Dangerous Practices since something is causing all these people to get hurt at that location...
That Investigation I believe, is usually done by both Worker's Comp AND OSHA so usually a Company that has one of these Investigations done to it is absolutely HAMMERED with Fines...

At the end of story #1, where the OP got revenge against a woman who dumped him, I wondered if OP would have done the very same thing if instead it turned out that he decided he didn't like the woman he was engaged to and wanted not only to get rid of her but to make sure she never bothered him again. I could see him using the same tactics but also making up things to make her life miserable for daring to make him fall out of love with her. But we always see only the POV of the story teller who is sure he or she has been terribly wronged and so deserves all the revenge it is possible to extract... we never hear the POV of the accused. Oh, well. Incomplete, ineffective story telling (or creative writing that's not very creative).

@ Darkfluff to answer the workman's compensation question of what really happens and why the company fights so hard to not pay out. If the company is at fault, it is a recordable/reportable imcident that is reported to OSHA and will invite an audit if the injury is due to the company not providing the correct safety. This can result in hefty fines and costly upgrades to fix whats wrong. This in turn leaves the company to not only have to pay for the employee's medical costs and lost wages but also open for a high dollar class action lawsuit costing the company dearly.

To answer your question about workman's comp. When my mom was injured, the company she worked for had to pay for the surgeries, physical therapy, doctor visits, AND the time she was off work. She had legal issues with it, but that's just because where she worked was filled with a**holes. They still haven't paid her for the second surgery in full. During the two year process of her being on medical leave for the injury, it took 6+ months before they got her the first surgery, and they said it wasn't that bad, until a doctor told them that her bicep was literally in her lower bicep area and not connected as all. Then it took three months for them to back in and do the second surgery because of shotty work, and her scar tissue growing to fast. All in all, I never want to work at ****** ****** like my mom was doing. Mostly because of this, and her working in five different stores at the same time as manager to all five. She didn't even get paid more for managing five stores either!

This happened in BC Canada. WCB basically has a monopoly, and it's mandatory for employers to pay premiums if they have employees. So back in the late 90s, my ex husband was severly injured on job. He had to have part of his foot amputated so there was alot of rehab he had to go through. Workers Comp was infuriating to work with. They had a new and different department take over each stage of his recovery. And each time his case was moved we would receive another case manager. I think went thru at least 6 different departments. After his recovery, which had taken 4 or 5 months, he was sent back to the job to work a few hrs a day to build up his strength in his foot.. When my ex was declared fit to work full time again, WCB closed out the recovery part of his case and stopped paying any more wages to him. His employer would now be responsible for paying his wages from then on. So that happened on a Wed and on Fri they fired him! WCB agreed to pay to retrain him. However, because my ex had been working a minimum wage job att, they would only pay to retrain/school him in a job that also paid minimum wage. Very frustrating. This is some of what he went thru. Of course, things may have changed in the interm.

I work in the insurance industry and know a little bit about W/C. It highly depends on the rules and regulations of the state. Some states require you to buy into the state insurance, other times you can get self-insured.
Super basic thought is that it functions like your auto insurance. You make a claim, your rates can go up. That's done because you're a higher risk and to create financial incentives to drive better. W/C functions in a similar way. They can't opt out of W/C either because its required by law and considered the cost of doing business.
W/C ideally creates that incentive for employers, but then they can also take the approach of just accusing you of fraud with little proof to get their numbers reduced.
    Its pretty vicious

Holy crap that second story. Seems a wee bit overboard. Not at all siding with "Victor" not paying OP back or being creepy, however I do have some sympathy for him. It sounded like he was in a very sexually oppressed relationship and was reaching out for help, but in the wrong way. I don't think he deserved THAT much revenge, and I hope he gets some sort of counseling.

Anytime an employee gets hurt on the job and has to file for worker’s compensation that company is fined. Not some small fine either. I want to say that it’s something like $25,000 fine (paid to OSHA I believe) to the company plus they have to pay for medical expenses due to the injury plus your wages for your regular schedule for a certain amount of time. I worked for a shipping company for 10 years and I remember bits and pieces of what my manager told me one time when I got injured and they were doing everything they could to keep me from going to the doctor. I felt like they were trying to make me feel guilty for being injured and it would be my fault if they got fined. They didn’t say it outright but the words they used and their tone made me feel that way. They preached safety over and over but they certainly didn’t practice it if it got in the way of production. They wanted us to go as fast as we could loading and unloading packages off the trucks and safety was an afterthought. Now thanks to them I can barely stand or walk for no more than 5-10 minutes and I live in constant pain because my back is so effed up from 10 years of lifting, loading and unloading boxes up to 70 lbs as quickly as possible and I’m certainly not the only one who’s back is so messed up from working at these shipping companies.

I did private investigations for workers comp claims. Essentially the worker gets injured, the fill out a workplace incident report and see a doctor. If the doctor states that they need convalescent time, you submit a workers comp claim on the state website. This is only if the company doesn’t have their own workers comp company. Company’s can opt in for private workers comp insurance (like Aflac) and the employees pay into it much like SS and Medicare. It’s the state workers compensation when the company gets scrutinized and ends up losing money, especially if the injury is serious. From there, the employee needs to go see a doctor contracted by the state to perform workers compensation physicals to determine the injury severity and how long the employee can expect to be out for the count. When a workers comp doc gives the okay for the employee to stay home, they start getting paid. Then the employee has to go back to see that doctor for follow ups to determine progress. If someone doesn’t feel ready to return to work, they take it to a workers comp board, where lawyers argue your case for not returning and a judge determines if you can still collect or you have to go back to work. I know this is how it’s done in my state and I feel all, if not many other states follow the same policy.

Story 2: Absolutely no where in this story does it say that OP ever told the boss that he wasn't interested. He never told him not to put his hands on him. In fact, he went BACK to his house after supposedly being uncomfortable. I'm not excusing the boss. It was highly inappropriate and should never have been done. (ALWAYS ask for consent. PERIOD.). However, OP decided the best way to handle this was to out him, not just to the man's wife (which I"m kinda okay with since he WAS attempting to cheat), but to his wife's entire church congregation. This could have been extremely dangerous for this man. People have been beaten, abused, and killed for PURPOSEFULLY coming out as gay. It is NEVER okay to out someone. NEVER.

@DarkFluff What happens is a case of "damaged goods" because it sews doubt to as whether or not the employee is a liability. If it happens once it can happen again and next time could be even more expensive to shoulder. not to mention injuries have a way of making employees...less effective, due to the mental strain severe ones can inflict on the employee. That is what a boss sees, that is why the tiniest screw-up is always scrutinized. That is why workman's comp is a nail in the employee's coffin for many bosses.

My mom was working in a factory and one of the robot things they have that deliver parts to places in the factory had a sensor that malfunctioned. She ended up getting her finger crushed to the point the bone was almost a powder and she could hold her finger up and look through it. Her manager told her to go to the doctor but return as soon as she was done. Her doctor fixed it to the best of their ability at the time and told her she needed to take a few days off and not to go back to work. She didn’t want to get fired so she went back the same day and completed her work with a crushed finger. After about a week on a Thursday or Friday her manager told her that since there wasn’t much to do the next day she didn’t have to come in. When she went in the following Monday they fired her for no call no show.

When you file for workers comp, you fill out forms Stating in Exact Detail{the failure of some people}, of what happened. In my case I was assigned a Lawyer, and Not Only did I detail Exactly whet I did(IN DETAIL) But I also drew Pictures, Because of the Detailing the, the Board gave the answer back to us in 3 days{Normally it takes a Week or even 2}, Not Only that they instructed the company not to appeal, as they would refuse it.(This was in Ohio)..
