I can’t wait to see how your cam holds up to everyone else’s cam in Weingartner Racings cam challenge!!!

Yup bought my cam from you. Bullet solid flat for my 359c with TF 225cc heads/out of box TF track heat intake. I was looking for 500+hp at or below 6500 rpm. Brent got me there with 521hp@6300/453tq@5600 at crank. Yes a race engine. I also bought my Comnp Ultra gold rockers, Comp EDM lifters and Meling HV oil pump. Thanks Brother. I already wished you a good luck the same day Eric announced you are in the challenge but good luck again. It will be cool if you win.

Good luck on the camshaft challenge. I was a little surprised when he announced you last week. Kudos to you! You designed me a Windsor SR this spring without the 6+ mos delay of "Ed". It works very much as I requested with great street manners and idles easily even when cold on a new chokeless Eddie 850 VRS carb. Revs out to 7200 and pulls my little street 69 Mustang to 106mph in 1/8th. Thank you. I'm returning for custom grind on a 69 Boss 302.

Always informative. When it comes to doing my 428 CJ from an original GT500KR, I know where I’m going to get advice and parts combos . I’m planning a refresh tear down and inspection next year and when I have the necessary info, I will be reaching out. I’m in Alberta Canada. If I was below the 49th I would be dealing with you in person. Your wealth of knowledge and objective and candid commentary based on facts is valued.

I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time and appreciate how thorough and meticulous you are with your engine builds. It is obvious from your dyno results that you don't just whip open a cam manufacturer's catalog and pick one. Also, in those catalogs they list cams for, say 352, 390, 410, 427, and 428 FE and say the cam will work in a certain rpm range! No, it won't!!!

What's your suggestion cam wise for a 390 FE? Car is a 1967 Mustang convertible. 390 car originally, auto trans, stock heads most likely, C6, just a street car not a race car. Intake I'm going to use is an old 6V (3x2bbl for those who don't know what that is), Ford intake with stock carbs. I believe the intake, carbs etc is off a Galaxie, could be purchased over the counter back in the day also, but pretty sure thats what its from. Rear gears thinking 3.25 or maybe 3.50, still deciding that. Roller cam preferred. I'm hearing alot of horror stories about flat tappets going flat? Vacuum brakes. Just starting to gather parts list. still needs to go to the machine shop to see if it needs bored etc, but my initial measurements show the cylinders are okay not to bore. Probably should anyway do to age, heat cycles etc, but would like to bore engine only if needed. If there is a better way to contact you about recommendations and purchasing from you please let me know. Thanks for your time and recommendations.

Chevy guy mostly LS here who has done a few heads and cam builds here. I subscribe to Eric and my local builder befriended him at Engine Masters. I like your content and have been trying to talk a friend into dropping a FE in his F100 but he is deep in a 351W. You present data in a humble clear way and the more I can learn, the more I can communicate with who I buy a cam from.

I have a Lykins Motorsports custom ground hydraulic roller cam. Brought my 390 to life. I recommend going with a custom spec cam ,you wont regret it. Also I understand wanting to be in the cam competition, but an LS. Hate for you to get caught up with that crowd. Lol.

Interesting comment on difference in overlap requirements for aftermarket heads.reminds me of Richard holdner video of 302 z28 vs boss 302 where it was showed the boss used more conservative cam (don't remember if overlap was specifically mentioned) ,yet power out still good.

I think modern heads East up some of the sound the cam makes too. I have a stock 5,0 in my mustang that has long tubes with some kind of cam, it has almost.600 lift is all I know cause I measured it and did the math stuff for the rocker ratio. Anyways, I chopped and had a rough idle to it. Then I swapped to the heads, Vic jr, and 650 double pumper and the idle kinda smoothed out a little bit. The engine sounds way happier, More louder at idle but more of a rolling chop to it, rather than all the different idle sounds it made before with the fuel injection, chop chop, blower surge sound, then the potato potato cam. 😂

Watched Erik for couple of years. Sharp guy. But he took 45 minutes to make a 10 minute point. Only so much time in a day. Was not getting enough out of time invested. I live in DFW area so he would be a top choice if I need cylinder head work. Only a couple of hours away.

I've bought several FE cams from you. All hyd roller stuff. Last 2 were for a 390 with C1AE heads and a 445/TFS for the last one. Will be looking for a 289/302 cam in a few months.

Brent...you probably have a competitive cam. Many will have cams that produce good power at 7000rpm. The 4-5000 numbers will determine the winner.

hi Brent, I would love that you make a video, about how to compare two different advertised duration, and explain about cam intensity and what we can see looking this numbers. Also I have a question when you make a custom cam, what is the approach that you take, I mean you take a software like dynomation playing with the pressure volume diagrams, look the revertion ect came up with numbers and the grinder make the cam pattern with those number, or when you get your numbers like IVC, IVO, EVC etc then you you start from scratch, I mean you make like a polynomical camshaft with all the maths, calculate the jerk, the velocity, acceleration etc. It would be awesome if you make a video explained a little about that kind of things! regards from Argentina

Can’t wait to talk to ya when I’m am ready for the Dart 460 Stroker…I have talked to bullet Cams and have a custom cam baselined 236/242 @.050 1.7 ratio’d .380/.385 lift 112 LSA-106ICL sb a 13deg overlap for a 11.3:1 static compression… w/225 cc TFS heads w/inline 2.08 valves. Street use 2900# Fox, 3.73 gears 28” tires. Rev limit set at 6-6200…TFS single plane and MSD fuel injection…manual transmission.
Is it possible to spread the exhaust duration out a little more or will that create too much pressure on the opening exhaust valve creating extra loads on the valve train? I was told this combo would be perfect as is, I would like the strong chop but don’t want to loose Dynamic Compression as a result.
Excited to have these numbers in my head!!! Have literally gone over this application fwd and back for a strong street thumper estimated with 575 torq and 640 hp… maybe a plate 150 shot for fun factor.
What would you change if any for this setup/application? Enjoy all your work and efforts !
    Ed
