the fact that the champion fight only exists after beating Agatha is actually really cool, because that shows that after you beat her, your rival JUST beat Lance, and so when you walk up to him is right after their fight. Cool little plot hidden away in the code.
Runner/commentator are really great in this run. Everything is well enough explained and they are both very entertaining. imo anyways, wish I could have caught this live.

Now I'm curious, they said the champion fight is not activated until you beat Agatha, so what happens if you warp into the map where you fight the champion? will he simply not be there?

I am asking because I know how to find it consistently in case people didn't know it was possible. (I am making a run video that includes it. Also, I would love to talk about a new category.)
BTW, thank you guys! I found these runs and events inspiring enough to pull out the gameboy (er, emulator) and get into pokemon again. I'm feeling up to trying out the generations I missed, too! Keep up the great work for a great cause. God bless!
artistafrustrado Should be all of it. They didn't make any changes to the games besides adding wireless multiplayer. Every glitch I've tried on 3ds has worked :-)
Bulbasaur is the best based on the gym lay out. The only gyms you have trouble with is Sabrina an Blane. You either resist or your super effective. Kinda walled by he grass gym tho.
Gen 1 is really the only Gen with these sort of game-breaking glitches. At least, ones that are reasonable to do in a marathon setting. EDIT: The preceding comment was and is flat-out incorrect. Many gens have glitches that let you skip large portions of the game. They do get rarer and less game-breaking as time goes on though.
The current Sun/Moon world record is over 5 hours long, and there's really no way to make it any shorter than that. It comes down to, the newer the game, the less you can skip.
Oh please. They've run like half the Final Fantasy series before. You know, those RPG's that are usually multiple discs and take 20+ hours to finish? Yeah, no, length is no excuse whatsoever.
can someone please clarify why the mewtwo was listening to him before he beat giovanni? i know lack of badges has screwed over several runs at gdq in the past, was it just good luck? he didn't comment on it at all, which is why i'm confused
The disobedience only applies to Pokemon that aren't originally yours. If the Mewtwo was traded to me, it would have been a much longer Giovanni fight, but because we caught it, it would always obey us
The Bulbasaur lines are great in general, but are pretty bad in Kanto, mostly because of what all the Gyms, Trainers, and Rocket members have. Bulby's especially bad in Speedruns. It's similar to Chikorita's situation, where Chiko is a great defensive Pokemon with good setup capabilities... everywhere explcept Johto.
I love games done quick, and all the runners do well - but when they start talking about probabilities (45% etc), just reminds me of that Leroy Jenkins video hahaha
It's a reference to the Super Metroid Race they do at the end of the event. Killing the animals saves time, saving them deviates from the fastest path, but saves the animals.
it's normally referred to as saving frames instead of killing animals. Being speed runs and all you'd want to be as efficient with movement, so at the end of the game you can save frames by opting not to save the animals.

You only need badges to use high level Pokemon that were traded to you. If you caught it yourself then it will listen just fine.
