My friends and I have always likened a Blissey being KO'd to a chicken with its head cut off. You give it a half-assed limp-wristed punch, then watch it run around in a panic as its HP ever-so-slowly... painfully slowly... goes down, until it inevitably tires itself out, lays down and takes the big sleep.
Something i appreciate with X and Y is that they still use regular drawings for the trainer and gym leader portraits. The pokemon artstyle is so distinct. I don't think 3D can do it justice. Mixing the styles and playing to their individul strengths is the best of both worlds.
The fact that The Pokemon Company got away with essentially selling the same game 4 times in one year with Gen 7 is hilarious. AnywayI love those games they're awesome
Dont forget that they did the same thing with Emerald, Crystal, Yellow and Platinum. All of them changed story and some pokemon you get in locations (yellow's starter, Houndoom line in platinum, etc)
@@michacarrymc1129 Quote from pokemon company: "Pokemon is not for kids" Also, I dont think they would put some dude trying to kill everyone getting kidnapped by satan in a game for kids.
Put USUM bottom tier on this list when it has more changes than more than half this line up of definitive editions especially fucking crystal. Also SM had a game changing formula still somehow worse than let's go pikachu and eevee, then putting sword and shield up above anywhere is insulting, but putting them just above the hoenn and johto remakes is just sour. Then Puts red and green and remakes above all of that is just why? to please genwunners? Oh well that's one popular fanbase covered and then I guess all you need to do is just get the other half on your side and push up the entirety of gen 5 into the lead next to arceus and randomly all the original hoenn games because art style and battle frontier, but then places bw2 up all of those for no reason. USUM has a new improved story, bw2 has a few new characters in a plot that isn't all that interesting because it's just the same villain coming up with another scheme like some saturday morning cartoon character. USUM had exclusive Pokemon, crappy 1D characters doesn't beat that and USUM did have previous gen Pokemon that didn't show up before in the original games, and also new areas, sure your route is different, but that doesn't justify it being a better game, there's still tons of reused locations in BW and that for a fact doesn't make the originals stand up at all and sure as hell doesn't make bw2 a proper sequel. Even sequels that had reused content like Majora's mask still managed to make the game take place in a different world, this doesn't. Black tower and white tree are garbage because they're just a worse version of pyramid from emerald. Then says bw2 are good because post game. The post game checklist for bw2 is 9 categories, USUM has 17 categories of shit to do. This isn't a genuine list, whatsoever. And all of the problems with SM can be applied to the whole series. All Pokemon games are hand holdy, all of them are linear, they're extremely progressive style games, just because 7 was in a roundabout style with side areas and others had interconnecting paths or shortcuts doesn't change anything to the fact that they're all linear.
Wolfey, thanks for all your content!! The quality has seriously been going up every singly upload since you decided to refocus how often you upload and I am loving it!!
this is actually the wildest and most out of pocket list i have EVER watched. if i took a shot every time you said something i completely disagree with id have alcohol poisoning
@@RGC_animationhe put sword and shield a game that can’t even run at the top. Pretty self explanatory. He goes on about his “smarts” when in reality he’s just good at Pokémon and can’t pronounce basic English words 😂😂😂 oh yeah very smart man that doesn’t understand the primary language he speaks.
The only game I want to argue is X&Y, because I know what that generation could have been if we had gotten "Z" to flesh out Zygarde's story, dive into the pokemon war, etc. But I realize that's making a generation better than what was actually given. I'll forever be annoyed that we didn't get Z.
In the gigaleak from a while ago, it was shown that there were XY sequels in development but were scrapped for some reason. A lot of people believe that since sequels and remakes don't sell as well as the originals, they decided to move on. Kalos is now the only region with only 2 games (tied with swsh but those got DLC) and since DP fans have been given their remakes(sort of) could XY be next?
It's so nice seeing B/W2 getting the deserved recognition. I had a blast with them, even during EV Training. I liked so much seeing it as a sequel and I actually enjoyed story. The rival had a different drive other than "I WANNA HUMILIATE THE MC" or "I WAS BORN WITH THE MOST SEVERE CASE OF HYPERACTIVITY KNOWN TO HUMANKIND".
Hahahah I hate how true those descriptions are of the most rivals. Hugh was really something else and really surprised me positively. Even though he was bit hyper at times too he had an actual interesting backstory and it wasn't just them being hyper or wanting to beat you like you said. I also really liked that we got to see the development of Cheren and Bianca in BW2. It was that continuation that made those games so good.
Even though Hugh is different, you barely ever fight him throughout the main story and literally all his lines are "tEaM plASMA sTolE mY SIstErs pURLoin". Its cool that he has a different motivation but it's really stupid that his motivation is literally his entire personality. I think Hugh is a terrible rival

@@CreamyPesto505 I think Gen 5 are great visually and fundamentally but I agree w this, theres hating the games which is totally fine, taste is incredibly subjective, but at some point you have to take an objective look and set bias aside that they are far from the worst games that gamefreak/tpc has put out. I also love Gen 6 and 7 but I don't argue w people like Wolfe or really anyone when they rank them so low because it's clear that they have so many flaws that I completely understand why people won't touch them

@@WhatismanwithoutGod People shat on gen 5 so much... it really felt like a turning point in the series' history because ever since every game has been subjected to massive amounts of criticism, not to say its unjustified in some cases. “The less story the better” - Scarlet’s intro to the school takes literally 20minutes to get through. Pacing was almost as slow as Sun/Moon. Pacing of first few generations were much better
Gen 3 Sprites were genius and the pokemon looked really cool, gen 4 was slow but had hype Legendaries and had an especially difficult Champion fight which has burned itself into the poor souls of those opposing Cynthia till this day
How do so many people struggle with Cynthia? I played the game when I was 10 and beat her without healing. I legit don't get how so many people struggle with her fight
@@ThatOneWeirdFlex It's because we didn't know her team when we played casually, and if you don't know about Garchomp, it's the first time you see that Mon. Seeing you saying Black 2 and White 2 being the best makes me so unbelievably happy. The games are AMAZING - I love the story, I love the new areas, I love the characters, the obtainable Pokémon, fun little features that got added and so on. Those games are my absolute favorites. I can actually 1:1 agree with S+ to everything including A-Tier on your list. Besides that, there are some things I do not agree with too much on the lower tiers, but this is such a wonderful list, tackling each game's strengths and weaknesses. Amazing vid, Wolfey :)
BW was able to give us a breath of fresh air by having the main story be exclusively Unova Pokemon and having one of the best stories in the Pokemon Series
I love that you sum up LGPE with ‘they weren’t made for me and they made our community bigger - that’s great.’ That’s a mature mindset and I wish more of the community could be like that.
I wish he'd extend that to Sun and Moon though. X and Y were the baby games, Sun and Moon were story focused, something a lot of the community had been asking for again since Black and White. If people want to just play through for a mechanical experience of catching pokemon and battling thats fine but I wish he'd have seen that may also be appealing to a different audience, even as a mainline game
@@benfawefwaeffwaefawfdekk2080 Yeah, fair. I can see why you feel that way. I suppose the Let’s Go games get more of a pass for being outside the usual gameplay but your points totally valid.

I feel like I'm always surprised how differing people's priorities in what makes a good Pokemon game can be. With Wolfey it's totally understandable he ranked the Gen VII games so low be cause he loves the battling and hates the hand-holdy aspects. But as someone who loved the characters, the story, music, and the region/pokemon designs, SuMo were some of my favorite games! It is crazy how different opinions can be when it comes to what makes a good Pokemon game
I liked the games, hate the business practices behind them. Not saying this as an insult, Ultra really could have been DLC. In the modern day, there's no reason for a third version to be released. With a handheld that could do online updates, and differences that took away nothing but Lusamine's villain arc, it could easily have been done. Fire Emblem did it. Ultra were only made separate games to double sales from people thinking they were largely different games.
@@commonviewer2488 I don't really like USUM either! And I definitely agree that Lusamine and Lillie's story lines were tragically cut for the Necrozma story. Which is why I specified that I like the original SuMo
bw/bw2 are probably the single best for the villians of the game. team plasma and their leader (ghetsis, the one who stays evil) have actual, realistic human motives. they're actually thought out villains and it's the only pokemon game where i don't mind that the premise is taking over the world.
another thing you didn't mention about B2W2 is the key system. it's a bit weird to use but it allows you to change black city and white forrest, change what regi you get, and most importantly adds in more difficulty options. the key system also allows you to link to a BW game and gives you cool things like your entire dress up case from that save file, new dialogue, and N's pokemon.
The difficulty options, at least Hard Mode, aren't coded properly. Enemy Pokemon may have higher levels, but they actually have the stats of if they were at lower levels
Here’s the thing with the difficulty. You have to have it sent from specifically black 2. White 2 gives you easy mode. If you don’t have a completed black 2 like me, you can’t play challenge mode. It was a cool idea, but they should’ve made it available from the start
@@grunkleg.2934 according to bulbapedia, both easy and hard mode calc stats using normal mode, so this may have been intentional. Maybe. Given GF's record, it being an oversight is still a strong possibility.

I think nostalgia is not a negative, but rather a big part of why pokemon is so special. The time it came out, the craze, the age you were when you first experienced pokemon. It all added up to a franchise that will never be forgotten by diehard fans.
Yeah I understand why he clarified by saying nostalgia will effect his decisions but I think if someone were to say they are ignoring nostalgia then I would doubt them to begin with. Isn't the whole point of ranking your favourite is by using your bias opinion? But yeah nostalgia lets you ignore a lot of problems that you aren't necessarily letting other games off for.
Pokemon is a series that in my opinion carries nostalgia no matter which game was your first. It’s just built to be that cozy and maintain that feeling of being a child again.
Funny thing for me is, that I played a lot of the games from my child hood again - and for me, they are objectively better than the newer games, even the GameCube games. Emerald on the GBA for example: I really like the remake but the game is still super dope, from the music, spritework and actual challenge here and there. Colosseum and DX have even better attack animations and presentation than the new switch games, karmesin and purpur - and not to mention the level and world design. Nostalgia can be an issue, but people, the new games just suck compared to older ones.
Ruby was my first but I was there since the beginning (93 baby) My favourite games to play are pokemon red and pokemon silver. I'm not even worried about yellow or crystal lol. Those games make me happy as hell, getting an ipd modded dmg was a game changer and between that and my ps5 I have the best time. I don't even use my switch as it bores me
What did they utilize?? Having hidden items in dive spots that were everywhere and only dropped like 3 pokemon - clamperl midricanth who is relicanth and also there was some other pokemon but I forgot about it
How Wolfey feels about Diamond/Pearl is how I feel about HG/SS. I didn't notice the criticisms the first time through and only through the internet have I become aware of their flaws.
black was the first game I ever played when I got it for xmas the year it came out. lead me into the beautiful journey we call pokemon. absolute bangers
I'm someone whose journeys began with Sapphire. B/W2? I bought on a god damn *whim* one day, when I was not that into Pokemon anymore and haven't even touched B/W. And my god it was one of the best whims I've ever been on. What a fantastic game.
@@ElsaChan597 I only ever got up to Diamond and pearl, starting with fire red and leaf green. At 25 years old this is the first bit of content that I've seen from black and white 2, too be honest I didn't even remember it existed. Whelp, time to buy it
Exactly the same for me, I started with b2w2 and it's what got me into the actual games in Pokémon, before I only matched the show and had some pokemon cards.
@@thasnipa597 honestly it might be worth it to try modding your 3ds, its not too hard and you can get all the eshop games free (not advocating for privacy, but b2w2 are ABSURDLY expensive)
Playing Emerald, Platinum, and Black/White 2 on release was really something else. Even as a kid growing up, you could tell those 3 games were something special. The fact that gens 3, 4, and 5 had back to back bangers makes looking at the current state of Pokemon legitimately pretty sad. I hope we get to see a game like at least one of those three again.
There's a few facts that boosts both Black and White and Black 2 and White 2 imo is that being that there's a lot of interesting detail within the stories of these games. One of my personal favorite things in the entirety of Black and White is that N, no matter what text speed you have the game set to, always talks at the fastest possible text speed. It makes him feel like he knows what he believes in and knows what he wants to say before he even says it, and it makes his idealism feel more real, fleshing him out as a character a bit more without really doing much.
my favorite aspect of B/W is that N's team is always pokemon you could catch around that area to further cement his goals and practice. On top of that Ghetis (how ever you spell his name) team is designed to be in total opposition to N's since he was just using N anyways. He had a counter for all N's pokemon.
@@kazkatgamer6722 My favorite part about black and white is how gullible N is to believe and how moronic Ghetsis is to believe that crappy speeches and being a regional champion will suddenly make people stop being with Pokemon when the entire world is unhealthily addicted to and reliant on them.
I liked the morally… grey? Maybe beige?… story in B2W2. The bit about Pokeballs being an issue and hoping for a future where Pokemon and people could trust each other without the use of such an oppressive medium of interaction was interesting.
I personally really like sun and moon but I can see why others don't. The cutscenes can be really overwhelming at times and z moves aren't the greatest gimmick. The thing that really makes me like the games is the Alola region itself. I really just love the whole Island aesthetic and the music is also outstanding. I do have to admit a lot of this may be nostalgia talking because sun and moon were the second ever pokemon games I played and the first ones I beat.
As someone who’s played every game since Red/Blue, I agree Alola should be higher. Sure the cutscenes and linearity were a killer, but the region felt very different from everything before due to its culture and layout, it had a lot of great Pokémon designs, and it has some of my favorite battle music from the franchise, including the best champion theme. Totem Pokémon were also a fun challenge if you had EXP Share turned off. I can’t say the same for Ultra… USUM was so grating I didn’t make it past the second island.
@@Pikanyaasan I’m replaying Sun right now and I agree. I hate the long cut scenes but I never really pay attention to the story of any Pokémon game. I mainly like it because I actually black out sometimes at totems if Im not fully prepared. Don’t usually lose in Pokémon lol. I also really liked BDSP, partly because I can play it on my TV and I found a few shinies without trying but it’s also just a solid game
I agree that USUM soured Gen 7 as a whole (although they have their good points. their difficulty and Rainbow Rocket were amazing), but I personally LOVE Sun and Moon. The characters, the story, the region, the ultra beasts, everything about it is so good. I agree the first island is kind of unbearable with it's pacing, but after that, I don't really mind the cutscenes at all. Really wish there was a way to skip or speed up cutscenes in this game though.
I have been an X & Y defender for so long. People really underrate how important they were in moving along the speed and ease of raising a competitive team. Also, a great in-game online ladder system. Considering Sword & Shield made such an effort toward making competitive pokemon accessible, I feel like I've seen more people begin to at least point out that X & Y did this too! Also: your channel has grown so much and your videos are amazing in quality, truly--3 Michelin star Pokemon content!
Pokemon X & Y were my first foray into taking Pokémon seriously. Super Training, the convenient daycare placement, berry farm, and the PSS made raising and playing with new teams incredibly easy and fun. I have fond memories of the Looker Missions post-game as well (Emma is one of my favorite Pokémon characters to date) and (hot take apparently) I actually really loved the roller skates.
Problem is competitive Pokémon is such a small and niche part of the Pokémon fan base. So 95% of players won’t have and won’t care about those changes. So then you’re left with just base X and Y………. yeah
The fact that Arceus was an INSTANT hit with the majority of the fanbase makes me so happy. As a standalone title I’m pretty sure its sales far surpass any singular game, and when you divide all the dual-release sales by two, it still outsold any singular version they’ve ever made. That gives me hope that we will see more Legends games in the future, hopefully for Unova and Johto soon, with Hoenn not far behind ❤
Honestly a good list! I’d personally rank Diamond/Pearl way lower, and HG/SS higher. But in my opinion a lot of it seemed pretty similar to what I’d say!
@@MaxiemumKarnage the hgss was probably not a bait. Not going to lie replaying them i miss the gen 8 mechanic’s and fairy type to counter dragons and other types. I rather play sword and shield my entire life over Hgss because the modern conveniences are better imo.
@@tee-p6f honestly though i think gamefreak is shying away from story in pokemon. Scarlet and Violet looks and seems to have little to no story and if that’s the case i think eventually it will go back to being red and blue barely any story just fun things to do. Swsh doesn’t have a story tbh it’s mainly lore to the region and that’s kind of what i like about swsh. Dynimax raids and adventures were really fun but the ai ruined it and so the fun of them kinda were ruined as well. The wild area was planned to be open world from what i heard but I assume it was scraped due to the fact it was the first mainline game to be on switch and that’s a lot of work. If im honest swsh and gen 8 did a lot of things right and people won’t or see it. Except bdsp since it wasn’t technically gamefreak remaking the gen 4 games. People need to realize that most of the pokemon games are linear lmao. Especially the fact you have to fight gym battles in order. Then defeat evil team and then become champion. That gets old and gamefreak knows that tried to something different like in sun and moon but fell short. At least the wild area breaks up gyms 3 and 4 for a little bit. My main gripe about swsh was the characters they felt bland and uninteresting. Leon even was boring and had no personality to him, even though people seem to like him I don’t to be honest. The post game was meh but it was still very fun to fill the pokedex easier then any of the other games. I think people just hate gen 8 cause of the memes and the nostalgia of older gens which is blinding them.
@@adammorin2955 Are you kidding? This would mean that every game before gen 6 wouldnt rank as high as gen 8. The gym leaders are pretty easy (but, you're still complaining about the lack of dragon counters), but that's why there's the entirety of the Platinum battle frontier. Honestly I doubt you even played HGSS
I haven’t played Legends Arceus, but seeing that you placed it so high on the list and the fact that we seem to have a similar taste in Pokémon games makes me want to play it now
I absolutely LOVE Legends. It's essentially what I've wanted for in a Pokemon game since '98 after I'd been into the franchise for a while. It's great. It almost feels too short in some ways, but otherwise it's so fun and engrossing. Shiny hunting is super fun, as well. The size difference between individuals is also awesome.
Emerald is my favorite. The battle frontier was so good I actually spent so much hours trying to breed pokemon to get the best nature and IV's when I didn't even know about the competitive. Black2/White2 are definitely a 2nd for me tho. They actually had double and triple battles while roaming around before you beat the game. It was getting annoying in X and Y were they kept mentioning it but the only time I see it is in the boring battle frontier 😭
Them skipping the battle frontier in the hoenn remakes pretty much made me drop Pokemon in general. Those blueprints you see in the postgame were they are going all "we will build something here some day maybe eventually" were the biggest middle finger to anyone who hoped for their inclusion too.
This is one of the most god-awful Pokémon main line rankings that I have seen in my entire life. LMAO. Any to say he hasn't played through some of the main line games before ranking them is icing on the cake.

Yeah they really should get a sequel like black and white 😭 I would love a game with an open world but more like exploring cities, towns, and other urban areas like assassins creed ya know. I love the wild areas n all but they are not doing as well graphically as the cities and towns are. Plus it would be a cool change in environment
Black 2 was my favorite as well! I care a lot more about plot than a lot of pokefans, and bw and bw2 I think did a fantastic job, especially the sequels in showing the consequences of team plasmas actions in the first. I also loved the conveniences they added. Grinding didn't seem so bad when I could just battle a breeder over and over and also earn money, and the y button was so convenient. Little things like that made it so much better. I also love the pokemon in them and the music is fantastic.
I give you the thing on the music, it really was amazing. For the rest, I really don't understand what people are on about, the Pokemon in Generation 5 are horrible, I just looked through the list again and could genuinely not find one that I kinda like ... I haven't played bW3 though so maybe at least the graphics where better in that one
Thing is with Heart Gold and Soul Silver is that you don't really have to wait since you can adjust the internal clock and calendar to which whatever time and day you need. Sure, you have to save your game and get out of the game to do it, but you don't have to wait until the actual day and time to do those things
But that's clearly not in the spirit of the way the game is designed. I also don't want to screw up my clock and have to change it back later. Why should features like this even be there? They add little depth when you consider how often I either don't recognize they're time events or I pass by the spot they're supposed to occur.
@@radaf4429 These games were meant to implement into your real life. No megas were terrible horrible design flaws. They shouldn’t come back because 1. Vgc was a mess, 2. The type and abilities were broken and made everything easy which yet people want the pokemon games to be harder 3. They ruin some of the pokemon
@@adammorin2955 I think having megas back would be fine if they took a restricted spot, you can only bring 1 mega anyways so you're always gonna bring the "best" ones so may as well make them restricted slots
@@adammorin2955I agree with you. Megas are the worst gimmick for competitive battles. 1. They aren’t usable by every pokemon. 2. They made power creep worse than ever. 3. They didn’t go a good job of making weak Pokemon viable.
They were made to make kids go look omg thats so cool! And that’s it. But the real thing megas brought was primals and that’s a problem. They made already strong meta pokemon more meta in doubles. Singles it was a different story if that pokemon didn’t have a mega chances are they are ru and down. Like i said everyone wants Pokemon games to be difficult but yet megas make it trivial.
I might be a bit younger than most here, but my first pokemon games were X and Y, and are still to this day my favorites after playing most games. Nostalgia plays a way bigger role than you may think, and for me it makes Gen 6 be the best for me
X and Y were my first too but I got stuck on that hedge part after the bug gym and didn't know the map existed so I got like lvl 50 pokemon before 2nd gym and never made it past the bushes
The outline of his is similar to mine, but I'd change a decent amount. Sword and Shield would be tied with BDSP as the worst since I'm not a Doubles player so it was terrible for me in every regard, and I'd definitely put G/S/C/HG/SS above all the 3D games, though still below all the other 2D games. Other than that it's about accurate.
SW/SH I would say is the most beginner friendly entry point to competitive Pokemon due to how simple it was to assemble a great team due to the XP Candy farming. The older games are more nostalgic, bit more difficult, but had compelling strategies to beat the game and set the foundations of where the series is now.
yeah SW/SH is a solid C tier. They have tons of problems, but they did somuch service to the competitive scene. I'm a genwunner, but my older bro got competitive cuz of sw/sh as he wasn't really a hardcore breeder like me.
Super proud of you Wolfey, the editing and overall quality of your videos now is fantastic. I know you worked hard to get to this point and, from a long time viewer, congrats man. Your awesome.
I have so much trouble ranking USUM. On my first playthrough, I literally couldn't finish. Sun was too fresh in my mind, and I got so bored I hit a wall. But on a more recent playthrough, it was amazing. There was still some tedium in the cut scenes, but the gameplay was amazing. Regardless, this is a great list, I appreciate your disclaimer about the subjectivity of these things, and thanks for the content :)
I think Ruby/Sapphire were the games I enjoyed the most back in the days. It felt like a more revolutionary upgrade from the previous version (H/G) compared to the other games.
Agree. those were the golden days of my childhood. But I also loved Johto as it felt difficult at the time and I just loved the legendary dogs, still remember playing this at school. Apart from that I mostly agree with Wolfey.
I remember wowing at the graphics. The puddles have reflections and will splash when u step. You can see blades of grass around your shoe in Verdanturf town, and the lightning effects were super realistic (In Sapphire). And the music...I always just go to places, max out the volume and just listen for a long time.
@@orrissonpereira1070yes! I loved the reflections and puddle splashes, as well as the footprints in the sand and weather effects. It was so immersive, colorful, and beautiful. When Wolfe says gen 3 was the best Pokémon ever looked, I have to agree with him.

Stretching the definition of "every" there Wolfey. I didn't expect the Ranger or Explorer games (although technically they would have been a part of it), but what about Colloseum or XD? Especially after Legends Arceus (and to a lesser degree the Let's Go Games) were included I feel like it is a weird cutoff to make.
Man i adore BW2 so much. It's SUCH an amazing game and truly beautiful with the pixel graphics. Also i can't believe how similar this list to mine. I always hear people fawn over Emerald and Plat, BW2 truly need more love.
lets go was such a fun interesting, non competitive pokemon experience, definitely couldve envisioned them make a spin off sort of series for new players and kids, while making the mainline series games more competitive and difficult, but as u said, the graphics were pretty great, and the following/riding mechanic was amazing. pokemon maintaining those graphics through the new games wouldve been sick
Your list is super similar to mine, but I did highly enjoy ORAS. I was just happy to be playing Gen3 again on a new and improved system. Probably list it in B or A personally.
RBY's story is so great because it's experienced organically and via the gameplay and environment around you, rather than being spoonfed to the player via cutscenes and dialogue. Compared to Sw/Sh, there's a lot less going on, but the gen 8 games never make you feel like you played a part in anything. Just a bunch of people talking to you everytime you turn the corner.
Hes 100% right I loved those games as a kid but replaying them recently? Holy crap is the level curve messed up. A full third of the game is a slog because of it.
I totally agree on cutscenes and dialogue. I'm doing a nuzlocke on violet right now and the worst part of losing on an attempt is knowing I have to get through 2 hours of dialogue/cutscenes in the beginning before I'm let loose on the game
USUM are in a really weird spot to me. In my personal opinion, the new content in those games was some of the best content mainline pokemon has ever had. Necrozma was a pokemon I didn’t care about at all after clearing all of Sun, but when I played Ultra Sun, it instantly became my favorite legendary. The thematics and storytelling behind it are incredible, and the fact that the game’s main villain is the box legendary is something else. It’s just such a shame that the rest of the game is just the same as the original.
agreed- if they had released the USUM games as the original SM, I think g7 would rank a lot higher on tier lists, even with how bad the tutorial is at the start. The storyline had that balance between cheery and sinister that BW did so well with, and Necrozma's opening of the wormholes makes sooo much more sense on why tf "aliens" are suddenly in this world
@@Walrus5 I think it's a bit complicated, ruling out nostalgia, of course. As "third games", USUM follows the typical formula, except the fact that they put out two copies instead of one. I also think the fact B2W2 were our latest "third game" releases, as Z was scrapped, put a bad taste in everyone's mouth that USUM didn't actually follow any sort of sequel route and instead was what felt like a UI update with not much else. In a 100% personal and not objective sense, this was the first "third game" I had to buy myself rather than get for christmas, bday, or using that holiday money. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. While Platinum is my preferred way to play gen 4, I still like D/P. I resold Sun/Moon immediately and loaned Ultra to my bro bc I needed space lol
I really liked sun and moon. I was pretty invested in all the Lusamine shenanigans. And wondering what the totem pokemon is gonna be, I really liked that new curiosity element. Kinda sad to find you found the story bad but yeah we all have our takes.
I've never heard the argument of "I hate when there's post game or actual interesting elements to the game". This was a very, very weird list, but makes sense for a, first and foremost, competitive player.
Black 2 and White 2 were the first pokemon games I ever bought, and I got them the last day before they removed them off the shelves. It's definitely as good as it sounds, as I'm replaying it for the fourth time happily.
23:47 Fun fact. At the very beginning of my Pokémon White 2 playthrough, I caught a shiny blue Psyduck at that route which had a calm nature! I wasn't planning on using it, but I decided to make it a party member, ev trained and everything.
Something I find interesting: you not noticing the problems of diamond and pearl matches your complaint about time based events slowing your play in other games. Diamond and Pearl's flaws are most noticeable if you set it down and forget what's going on. My sister and I tried to replay diamond and pearl a few years ago as adults, and due to work she couldn't pick it up for over a week. When she got back, she couldn't figure out what she was even supposed to be doing
I would love to see a video ranking the competitive scene of each game you played. Like if it was fun to play, if the Pokémon/mechanics were balanced, etc.
Honestly, I agree with your tier list bar a few tweaks. HGSS for me would be much higher, mostly because I love the legendaries, and I felt it was polished. I need to give arceus another go, I’m in the first 3 hours of the tutorial and it’s such a grind. Great vid
The best way to play through hgss is definitely the drayano hacks. The only bad part is the end game grind can be a bit bad for johto which I'd recommend a cheat for. Most drayano hacks are amazing but hgss is specifically great because it doesn't add too many features and is very vanilla yet it fixes so many issues with hgss just by rebalancing stuff. The pacing of the game and the atmosphere is especially great
Legends Arceus is the first time Pokémon released a game since I first played as a child that made me fall in love with playing the game again. I would say that’s my top tier, mostly because it feels like Pokémon is supposed to feel. I felt connected with and curious about the world they built.
Nice video. One of the best thing Gen 5 implemented was reusable TMs, thank GOD for that. In other games I just stacked TMs like a maniac and didn't want to use them in fear of wasting 'em!
I love that your number 1 is black 2 and white 2. I played it when it first came out and loved it and recently have been playing it again. It was very well executed and is the only Pokemon game I can think of with a hard mode. Think I have about 680 hours atm.
I really hope when they release the old legendary’s in Scarlet/Violet, there could be unique remixes instead of one singular song from dynamax adventures
@@erics802 if they release them it will be in dlc but i hope they don’t because it will ruin the feel of the region. With dynimax adventures it at least had the feel of the galar region. Plus now that 99% of the pokemon is on switch I doubt they will do it anytime soon.

Ultra were only made separate games to double sales from people thinking they were largely different games.

bw/bw2 are probably the single best for the villians of the game. team plasma and their leader (ghetsis, the one who stays evil) have actual, realistic human motives. they're actually thought out villains and it's the only pokemon game where i don't mind that the premise is taking over the world.
another thing you didn't mention about B2W2 is the key system. it's a bit weird to use but it allows you to change black city and white forrest, change what regi you get, and most importantly adds in more difficulty options. the key system also allows you to link to a BW game and gives you cool things like your entire dress up case from that save file, new dialogue, and N's pokemon.

@@Pikanyaasanusum is my favorite
I hate sun and moon. Worst installment along with scarlet and violet
Tutorial... TUTORIAL!!!
A huge smile went across my face as I face Cheren for my first badge in Black 2
Black and White 2 VGC was so hype, I remember watching Aaron missing all those will-o-wisps.
I also remember Thundurus terrorizing everyone with Prankster Thunder Wave and Swagger
Such slept on games.
Also, while the game story was poorly executed, the lore behind the game is actually intriguing and superb.
Exactly I love gen 6 its such an amazing time and enjoyable plus I love xerneas
@@MaxiemumKarnage He has a point about the Dailies content.
@@MaxiemumKarnage the hgss was probably not a bait. Not going to lie replaying them i miss the gen 8 mechanic’s and fairy type to counter dragons and other types. The dailies and the general concept that kanto was only added so you can fight red. On top of the fact that the gym leaders were really meh. Id put sword and shield above it any day. I rather play sword and shield my entire life over Hgss because the modern conveniences are better imo.
swsh should have been way lower. the story isnt good, the region is linear. its just not fun. only thing redeeming it is vgc.
I haven’t played Legends Arceus, but seeing that you placed it so high on the list and the fact that we seem to have a similar taste in Pokémon games makes me want to play it now
Legends Arceus is the most fun I've had in a Pokemon game in more than 10 years, definitely give it a go.
You should, even though gen 5 is by far my favorite I wasn’t at all surprised legends arceus was almost #1 over b2w2
Best game after Emerald for me, give it a try, you'll have fun for sure
give it a go for sure. it is not perfect by any means, but it is easily the most refreshing change of the formula we've had since Gen 1.
@@DrewX86That made me so angry
This is one of the most god-awful Pokémon main line rankings that I have seen in my entire life. LMAO. Any to say he hasn't played through some of the main line games before ranking them is icing on the cake.
My top three are B2W2, Platinum, and Emerald. I haven't played Legends yet, but seeing how similar your ranking is makes me even more excited to give it a try!
It's really good n interesting
The tutorial is actually somewhat necessary to understand the mechanics because they are very different
I have one for ya: pokemon battle frontier
Yessss, sequels of Black and white getting the place they deserve,it will be my favorite pokemon game,PWT is a feature that should be in every game
@@barry101ish Quick question: I don't know how to download romhacks on computer. Do you think you could teach me how to do that? I want to at least see older generations, and revisit a few.
That and the battle factory
X and Y are iconic they changed the franchise forever. I really wanted them to make sequels to fill out the game.
I was waiting for Z ngl
@@GothJedi they were going to release it apparently but they couldn’t because I think the anime had finished and so they needed to add sun and moon. That’s why zygarde is in Sun and Moon.
Yeah they really should get a sequel like black and white 😭 I would love a game with an open world but more like exploring cities, towns, and other urban areas like assassins creed ya know. I love the wild areas n all but they are not doing as well graphically as the cities and towns are. Plus it would be a cool change in environment
X and Y are my personal favorite games, and they definitely deserved better.
x and y desperately needed third version or sequel type like bw2. justice for best snake mon zygarde.
I feel like having a good story is a add bonus that brings the game to life with the characters, the cool pokemon, and having a region to explore.
Nahhh, Pokemon stories are lame
You were meant to play a bit everyday, go on a walk with the pokewalker come back and do the next thing that gets unlocked for the day. I AM SO PROUD I GET TO SEE B2W2 ON THE TOP OF YOUR TIER LIST ❤️❤️❤️ Oh man, I still remember the gut-wrenching method of capturing a Beldum since I killed it on my first encounter and I saw it as a cool addition to my team, and well it took me 3 hours since I didn't know about False Swipe plus it is my first pokemon game. Man, I wish I could salvage my old save.
I love mega evolution, I really wish it would come back every year we get new Pokémon I keep wishing for megas
@@adammorin2955 i can see that, it was annoying some people would abuse certain megas for sure, i only used to do wifi battles on my DS lol

@@Skeloperch hey I am a doubles player and is still has sword and shield as low as you lol
I despise dynamax.

Agreed ORAS was honestly amazing
And their soundtrack is just 👌👌👌
RBY's story is so great because it's experienced organically and via the gameplay and environment around you, rather than being spoonfed to the player via cutscenes and dialogue. Compared to Sw/Sh, there's a lot less going on, but the gen 8 games never make you feel like you played a part in anything. Just a bunch of people talking to you everytime you turn the corner.

The storyline had that balance between cheery and sinister that BW did so well with, and Necrozma's opening of the wormholes makes sooo much more sense on why tf "aliens" are suddenly in this world
I don't get why everyone complains about usum and then don't complain about pokemon yellow, crystal, emerald and platinum like tf
@@Walrus5 FR
ultra moon was the first pokemon game i got, and i had and am still having a lot of fun with it, but there are definitely a huge number of drawbacks.
Yeah, the story in Sun and moon was good. But the ultra games ruined it.
I've never heard the argument of "I hate when there's post game or actual interesting elements to the game". This was a very, very weird list, but makes sense for a, first and foremost, competitive player.
I’m sold by the fact you described potential subscribers and current subscribers as “ soon to be chads” and “omega chads”.

It's literally one of my favorite
