It is a scary time to buy a kayak. The advancements in fishing kayaks has been so huge in such a short period of time. Next year they will probably have a model that is solar powered and reads your mind to go where you want.

Great info as always... for myself i think id still prefer the negative titan 12 then add front mount spot lock. For a couple reasons first still having pedal drive as a back up still and the internal storage. I hope in the future oldtown will add a much larger internal storage area to this platform

Aliex, I love my kayak. It is a 120 pdl Hybird eition. I have the 46lb thrust cockpit factory fitted trolling motor. And I just added my Bixpy J2, and purchased the vibe gravity rudder, because my rudder is a toe control. Nothing is hacked, it's all factory. But if I had to save again, I would've definitely decided on that vessel. I fish freshwater and gave had big large mouth, pull me into, trees or grass, and brush. Awsome boat!! 🤟🎣🙏

Omg who would buy this and not want spot lock! So I commented on another vid saying I want a trolling motor or a Pedal. I have to say I’ve never been more excited to get something in my 40 years of living than the Autopilot lol. We are in good times as kayak fishermen! What funny a lot of reviews talk about the spot lock for rough water and conditions. I can’t wait to use it on my glass smooth lakes and large ponds.

Great review Aliex! It really seems like an incredible boat. I wish there was a way to swap the pedal drive so if the battery dies on you and you're far from the launch, you don't have to paddle this beast... it would be sweet if Old Town found a way to make a compatible system so you can swap the motors (just bring the PDL with you in the tankwell). But you can't have everything you want in life!! One thing.. do you know if the new seat works on the Topwater series? It looks like it might, but I haven't heard for sure yet. Thanks for the great review Aliex, hope you can get out fishing soon!

  • @Obxhatman

I just got a 13.6 coming , I got a 100 ah lithium ion battery as well. Now , How batteries are , lead versus Lith Ion. Lead has a gradual slope downward on voltage as you use it throughout the day so you start out at say 12.5 volts , and 30 minutes later , you are at say , 12.2. How this effects performance is as the day gos on , speed setting two in the beginning was giving you say 1.5 mph , well now speed 2 gives you 1.4 mph after 30 minutes. This is basically how lead acid works. So the longer you go , the less PREDICTABLE the outcome is because so many variables are changing. With Lithium Ion , it gives you a solid 12.5 volts at the beginning and for about 87 percent of the charge in , then after that , it drops fairly dramatically , not slow. This allows you to get the same performance and expect the same performance at certain settings for the whole day. Which is super important.
On Lithium or any other type of battery , its important to note that if you run a trolling motor at max speed , all of them will die fairly fast. The key to using any battery driven device is knowing how it draws current. There is an exponential gain from cutting the speed from say max to 50 percent. So if on a full charge , a battery gives you 2 hours at full speed. If you just cut the speed in half , you do not gain only 4 hours , you gain like 8. So , simply being patient and efficient with use , you can gain a lot of hours just lightly cruising around. In fact , I would say any battery , if you run this setup on a 100 ah battery , and run it at say , 1 mph , there is no reason you should not be able to get a solid 16 to 20 hours of use on one full charge.
The worst thing about Lithium Ion is the sharp fall at the end , and when that comes if you are 2 miles out , guess what , you are paddling. To allow you better judgement , get a gauge that more accurately gives you a meter to look at with percentage of battery life left. Then you do not get to far out , and get out of power.

While I think this thing is great and I wouldn't mind owning one, I got a 16.6ft alumacraft deep v bass boat for $2500 in excellent condition with 40hp Yamaha 2 stroke engine. Kind of hard to justify the price of this kayak when I could purchase a boat. Don't know, its probably the trolling motor with spot lock that jacks up the price.

Why would you say motorized kayaks are the same as man powered? They aren’t and shouldn’t be considered the same. One is run by literal man power and the other is run by a trolling motor and batteries. They might want a division for powered kayaks but they aren’t the same at all. Most anglers on big boats use their trolling motors almost constantly so why turn into that? Not trying to be a jerk, I just don’t understand how they’re the same.

No way. Trolling motors don't last very long. Especially in salt water. Neither do batteries. So basically in 5 to 7 years at best you'll be replacing both the motor and battery. Can you imagine spending all that money and having to invest another 2k in 5 years otherwise your kayak is useless ?? No way. And Spot Lock on a kayak isn't all it's cracked up to be. There's always wind out there if you fish the salt. And on Spot Lock you'll always spin around and wind up facing into the wind. Always casting straight into the wind. Unless your on a quiet lake.. that sucks.

Bro 99% of the people keep their yaks for like a year then upgrade, spot lock works amazingly and iPilot is just magic

That's funny. For the people out there that don't plan on buying a new 4k kayak every year...replacing a trolling motor and battery in 5 years is insane. Sorry. Not only are you casting into the wind... you're pissing into it at the same

@@jasonbowden1422 I don't know about you but I still have my trolling motor from 2014, I really don't see your point here, At the end of the day buy whatever you want, if you don't wanna spend $3800 on this kayak don't, there are plenty of people out there who has and will.

I have no problem spending 4k on a kayak. I've got 2. Spending that on one that will need 2k worth of upgrades in 5 to 7 years or else it sits in the garage... yes I think that's stupid. How much do you think you'll get for it when you want to upgrade to something else but it needs a new trolling motor and battery ? This is hard to understand ? If you think trolling motors last much longer than that Alex you haven't been fishing very long. And even if they are still working they perform like crap. Same exact thing with the batteries. People that are given expensive fishing kayaks don't care about about 5 years down the road... but the rest of us do. Does it always bother you so much when someone has a different opinion about one of the kayaks in your unbiased reviews?
