    THANK YOU for answering in this video *my* question about how to service my new-to-me GM1600. I followed your apparent lawn-care advice and just bought one without a fully-baked plan; it's nice to know that I can fall back on Reinders.

      I'm gonna be completely honest with you, I have no idea if this is sarcasm or not. Thanks for watching, regardless.

      @@JasonSeiberlich Sorry, not well worded. (I can see how this might have come off as sarcasm... it's not.) I bought my GM1600 with a plan of figuring it out once I had it. Total leap of faith. It's gone really well so far, but I have no idea where I am going to get new reels or grinding done. All the lawn mechanics I've talked to have said they can't help me. Reinders is just down the road... I had no idea they were a Toro golf dealer.

      Excellent. I love that kind of energy and if your approach is to figure it out as you go I'd be pretty confident you will. Just be prepared for a pretty sizable bill from them. Also, not all locations are their mechanic type places. Some are just fert, lights, and irrigation.

    Great video, best thing is managing expectations on what can be accomplished by a normal person with everything that goes with that.

    A good plan Jason😀👍. I can't wait to get started again and watch the bentgrass spread! great to have something like that! anything else would be kind of boring🙄😅

    I also made a green, and three tee boxes using tifgrand in Dunn NC. You can see my efforts at Home Golf Course Volume 1/2/3/4/5. I sodded, and have used various combinations of N/P/K recommended by various websites. I have sprayed grubworm killer and anti fungal as well. I have too dressed twice since the sod was laid in April. My biggest mistake was not leveling the underlaying dirt better, which has resulted in the edges of my greens mower scalping a little along any uneven edges. Other than that, it’s grown in nicely. Had two tournaments over the summer. Oh yea, I mow every 3-4 days.

    You should look into evapotranspiration rates and field capicity as a way of estimating irrigation requirements, and more infrequent watering will definetly help with rooting. Another thing I've come across recently that I found really interesting was MLSN, minimum levels of sustainable nutrition which allows you to estimate fertiliser requirements based off how much the plant is using and what is already contained wihtin the soil, or at least STERF which is demand-driven fertilisation so applying the grass with exactly what it will used without taking into account the nutrients already in the soil. I think what you'd find being on slightly heavier soil is that you would only need to be apply nitrogen and maybe a bit of potassium without sacrificing any turf quality. There is a lot of info on the asian turf grass website which also looks into managing organic matter.

    Thanks for sharing your journey. I have successfully grown a backyard green in the Northeast. I use a Jacobsen Greens King. cutting at 3/16th. i found that i was getting thinning around the edges where the green stayed a little more wet than the rest of the green. It does crown a bit as the green is elevated. I thought it was the mower being a larger and heavier mower. Does the Toro GreensMaster mower make a difference over the Jacobsen? I will be working on the watering and when i mow.

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Toro was quite a bit heavier than the jac. Otherwise no difference. Likely because you're just going over that spot the same way every time. Or turn damage. I have the same thingon the perimeter.

    I realize this isnt a new video so I hope you're still active. I live in coastal NC with plenty of heat and humidity. Bent grass isnt an option for me I dont think. You mentioned common Bermuda not withstanding cutting this short. What type of Bermuda is recommended? I currently have centipede and intend to plant my green this spring with a Bermuda of some kind. Any suggestions on the type I should target?? Thanks for the helpful videos!

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In that climate you probably have a chance with bent. However bermuda likely safer. So you would be looking for a hybrid dwarf bermuda variety. I'm admittedly not a bermuda expert, but I would say to reach out to your nearest sod farm and ask for either sod or sprigs. You will not be able to seed hybrid bermuda.

    I see when u cut your green and u get to the end of your pass u turn the mower right on the green. I worked on courses for 15yrs 30yrs ago and still remember the first thing I was taught about cutting, never turn the mower on the green itself, go off onto the ringcut/fairway/apron and make your turn or in time youll end up ripping up the edges of your green. We used to top dress in the spring and fall when we airated, we'd remove the cores and then spread a sandy topdress mix and fill in the core holes by pushing the topdress over the holes with a 6ft push broom that sat on a frame and then we'd pull it across the green with a golf cart, the broom pushes the mix right into the core holes, works great

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea would never turn around on the green. I have a fringe/chipping area that I'm turning around on. I did that all manually this spring. Manual aerator, spread sand with a shovel, and swept in. Plan to do that next spring again. Thanks.

    Great videos bud! So with my new (this year) bent grass green I basically only used fungicide (bio advanced for lawns) and milo. The fungicide was about once a month and the milo was about twice a month. I never had any issues with my green and it’s in amazing shape. Also fertilizer high in potassium helps green it up. I did that about once a month or so. I have not top dressed yet.

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome. The potassium helping with turf quality probably points to a deficiency more than it inherently greening it up. Just a guess. What height of cut did you maintain at?

    I think you’ve done a great job with your practice facility. Similar to myself you do research and try to apply the best practices possible while maintaining a full time job / family life not to mention filming and editing content for your viewers . You’ve done a great job balancing everything! 👍🏻⛳️

    Great video great content really enjoy it getting ready to do this in my backyard with piranha and T-1 bentgrass , going to section each of them off to see which one produces better (i’m located in Louisville Kentucky and those were to while performing in the NTEP in my area). ,was just wondering do you have a particular brand of herbicide that you use which is safer for bentgrass? Thanks

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spectracide with the yellow cap. Label specifically notes safe for bent. I'm sure there are others but thats what I've used.

    Jason? Can you grow bent grass in July and August!

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure can. Not easy and gets harder the further south you go. But it can and is done all over the place.

    What NPK ratio do you use for you green fertilizer? Creeping Bentgrass

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bent and right now just N. Don't need P or K. But general recommendation is 4-1-2 long term if collecting clippings.

  • @lvond555

    You should have a regrading project next season for your green

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's fine enough. Gives practice with some heavily breaking 4-6 footers. Also plan to have a second green where the gravel is currently and that's much flatter. Plus for the usability of my back yard it wouldn't make any sense to cut it into the hillside.

    Can you use Saint Augustine grass to cut it real low?

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can be cut low, but probably not putting green low.

    What about transplanting plugs from a green off of an already existing green?

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure the golf course you're playing will enjoy you taking plugs back to your house lol. If you have multiple greens at your house, I don't see why not amd also that's awesome. If you're actually managing a golf course, I'm not your guy to ask for advice.

    Anything over 80 degrees in the summer you have to let the green grow a little taller or it will all turn brown.very upsetting.

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely true as it certainly can be done and is done by golf courses. But, yea for homeowners I think the recommendation this year is definitely going to be let it grow up a bit in the summer.
