    Rotten soybean story: When I was about 12, I was walking a railroad side track rail by a grain elevator in the town where I grew up. There were soybeans spilled along the rail where they had been loading out rail cars. Yep, I slipped off the rail and stepped in rotten soybeans. OMG!! You wanna talk about nasty smelling!! Somehow I managed to clean most of it off my tennis shoe without throwing up. I'll never forget that!!

    Yes...nothing any worse than walking up on a bin pad to open a bin to fill it and step in wet mushy feed. We have one grower that is very ocd. Washes her bin pads to keep them clean. Have one grower that has standing water on his bin pads...plus feed. Never seen metal feed tubes on any of our farms we service. 82 farms.

    The original flex auger,back in the 60’s,was all galvanized steel tubing and elbows. The noise was horrible! I can show you flex augers that have been in continuous use since 1966. Every time there has been a remodel the tubing has been replaced. I had a man who would braze augers together for me.

    Never seen those quad boots on the bins. All of ours are just 2 lines. Generally Duct tape is the repair of choice for everyone. Also, what size are your bins. Here, 30,000+-pounds. Some alot smaller.

    That steel probably works better than duct tape

    I’ll be interested to see if the auger inside will hold up or if it will wear and then slow pushing feed through. The old plastic ones seem like they would wear before the auger (issues you had) but the metal on metal, one is probably softer metal than the other. I’ll be looking for an update down the road.

    Yeah guys , we’ve replaced most of our elbows with steel over the last 10 years or so . Noisy as hell when it runs empty but that’s a small sacrifice . We have chore time fyi

    Do you all grow your own feed for yalls hogs or does your grower furnish the feed

    Plus the steel won't deteriorat from the sun like the plastic and become brittle.

  • @typete01
    @typete01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You won't be sorry with steel, used all the time with chicken feed. The biggest thing is to make sure your pipes are true and the flex is tensioned correctly or your elbows usually wear out first. You knew those bins were leaking for a bit, corn must be cheaper there.

    A feed system only goes down when it’s raining to beat hell or cold snow and wind blowing. Best to fix now when it is pleasant weather 😊

    You need to take a lesson from us poor chicken farmers a piece of flashing and some duct tape and you could have gotten another 5 years out of that 😂

    No considering HDPE? High Density Polyethylene pipe. They use sheets of this in dump truck bodies for wear resistance and non sticking.
