How To Reset A BMW Service Light Without An OBDII Scanner

- ►On BMWs roughly 2006 and newer, you can reset the service reminders (also known as service lights or service indicators) manually through the instrument cluster. Reminders such as the oil service, brake pad replacement, and vehicle service are displayed on both the iDrive system and the instrument cluster; however, they can only be reset through the cluster or with an OBDII scanner such as the Autel MX808.

👍🏻 keep getting the unsuccessful message, didn’t know about the different stage brake pad wear sensor off to change them now! Although I never had the service light for the rear pads until a week after I changed them? Is it also looking at mileage?

I've done my oil change on my 2017 g30, b58 engine, I reseted the oil change in my intrument cluster just like you did. My question is, every time I jump in the car I have the pop up, Oil service due to 1200 miles even if in the idrive its been correctly reset and its shows that next oil service is in 12000 miles. Or even if I try to reset again on the instrument cluster, shows the same , next oil service 12000miles.
How can this pop up can be stoped as everywhere else, even in the bimmer app shows the same 12000miles next service?

Is this applied to 2018 x1 ? And X1 oil change is every 10000-15000 miles. Right ? Your dashboard says other number.

Is there a way to reset the ECU without a scan tool? When you change the battery on BMW you need to reset ECU so the alternator does not overcharge the new battery.

Doors shut, level ground and handbrake down for manual transmissions models. The handbrake thing is supposed to stop home-mechanics from doing the reset, because who would know not to pull the handbrake?

When I turn on my 2021 X1 it says “service due in 900 miles” I tried to reset after an oil change but it says “reset impossible” oil level checks good but when I turn on the car it does give me that message. Anyone dealing with that?

Hi Ego, you may want to try and reset the service lights _with_ a scanner instead, and see if the issue persists.

that will depend on the recomended milage of the oil manufacturer, in new cars you should always use premiun oils and the appropriate grade
Worked great. I got my car serviced at a non BMW garage due to the extortionate prices. Half the cost but the garage didn’t perform the reset.
Two minutes, did it myself. Great money saver.
