How to RESET the SERVICE Light on a BMW 3 Series E90, E91, E92, E93

- Hi, this video shows you how to reset the Service Indicator on a BMW 3 series when you do your own servicing. It also shows you what the different symbols mean and how to check the service information on your car. The car used in the video is a 2013 BMW 318i E93 (coupe). This process will be the same on the E90 (saloon), E91(estate) and E93 (convertible). Other BMWs might also follow a similar process.

My 14 year old E92 N54 only has 70,000 miles, some people just don't drive a lot lol

Hi Vince I have a 2005 BMW 320i E90, I had the oil and filter changed last week as well as the air filter and brake pads also rear brake pad wear sensor.
I have the amber engine management light showing and the car had a fault code of 2B63 camshaft sensor, exhaust.....I have since changed the camshaft sensor and the light did go off and came back on after a few seconds, could you advise me as to what the problem could be or is it possible that the light will go off itself after the car has covered some miles?

This was a huge help. The dealer did the "vehicle check" and did not reset the meter. This worked perfect and saved me a trip 15 miles away. One difference: I had to start my car in order to get the same menus you had. I have a 2011 E90 and when I went through your steps, the menus never came up. After I started the car, everything worked perfect. Thanks!

Anyone know why when I put the key in and push start/stop mine beeps at me telling me the ignition is on. I'm not pushing in pedals either. Doing EXACTLY the same as this video. Mine is a 320D M Sport Business Edition 2008. Any help would be great!

No icon for the "Service Engine Soon" notification though, so even though i reset all the options, the "Service Engine Soon" notification still shows on the dashboard
Means you have a functional problem with the engine. Need to have a diagnosis done ASAP.

I tried to drain the oil via the dipstick and now the red oil light keeps coming on. Any ideas what has happened?
Here's the code that i got from dealer:
The code was: 0x002B DMTL, system fault. The DMTL pump/module is what needs to be replaced. It detects leaks in the fuel system.
It went away with dealer tech reset ONLy temporarily.. will replace if light back on ..
Is there a way to rest ourselves?

I took it to the dealer and they ran diagnostics and said the oil sensor electronic module is returning error code. Estimated $675 USD
I requested them to reset for now via their tool and paid them for other repairs ( valve gasket and oil filter gasket) only. They waived the diagnostic fee $175
One year ago the same thing happened and the dealer said one ignition coil failed and i just replaced one coil and put new plugs since it was due anyway
In summary the issue can be anything so think before you spend and ask dealer or mechanic for reset and give it time before u spend money.

I have the X5 E70. I am guessing this method will also work?! Mine is currently flashing “vehicle check” but all the components (brake fluid, oil, front brake pads, rear brakes pads) are all showing “OK”. Does this mean that I don’t need to bring in my vehicle for any component change? Therefore resetting the “vehicle check” is valid to do now? Be great to get some insight.
Just replaced the rear brake sensor on my E91 here in the UK, and needed to reset the service lights.

I couldn't get my brake sensors to stay put, they kept falling out no matter what I did so I just cut the wires and soldered them together and reset the brake warning. now I can never get a code ever again because the circuit is normally closed and now I don't need the sensors. I think it's pretty obvious when your brakes are worn out. the sensor is useless.

Cant get this to work for my back brakes. everytime I try to do the reset, next to milege/KM there is only a dotted line and nothing changes. Any idea how to fix this?
Did you get the solution to this, i am suspecting the sensors, i could be wrong and i would love to hear from u if you managed to resolve it

Thanks so much man, just adding also make sure all your doors and boot is closed otherwise it wont let you access that screen. I bought my e92 330d recently and couldnt work out how to turn the vehicle inspection light off so this video was a god send. Cheers
Didn't work on mine. 2010 M3-spec wagon. If I pushed the starter button with no foot on the brake it just came up with an exclamation mark. Not the one in the triangle. If I have the engine running I and hold the odo reset I get the exclamation mark in the triangle but nothing else.

Brake wear indicator is on. Had brakes checked and there is plenty left. Must be faulty sensor. Can I use this procedure to reset the brake wear sensor indicator?

I have a 2012 328i (N52 engine). The local BMW dealer wanted around $800 for Spark Plugs, Microfilter (air cabin) and brake flush. I replaced the Spark plugs and filter myself for under $100 and then had a local Goodyear shop flush the brakes, all for less than $225. Reset the Service and brake fluid light. Took less than 5 minutes and worked perfectly. Dan from Kansas City

Thanks a lot! Had my car MoT'd and they didn't reset the 'roadworthiness check' warning light. Not critical, as MoT info is now online, but warning light was annoying.
When I attempt this a triangle with a ! Above pops up and don't give me an option to reset anything. Solution ?
Haha a garage once told me they had to connect some sophistated BMW specific equipment to do this and charged me 20 quid.

My 2008 335XI Chimes a few times every time I start it. Is there away to turn those chimes off. I don't mind a chime if there's an alert, but would rather it not chime if nothing is wrong. Thanks.....Nice video also.
Thank you just had my local mechanic tell me I would have to go to the BMW dealership because they could not reset the service indicator for having replaced my micro filter aka cabin filter. They kept saying it was catalytic and never said catalytic converter. Again confusing because I was like what does the cabin filter have to do with catalytic.... . Either way it was one of those you are a woman probably don’t know much about cars situation. So I got home found this video less than 10 mins later was done thank you.

Hi, what does your yellow engine symbol mean? I have the same situation with my e92 335d. The symbol light is on when engine isn't started up and when I start the engine up it goes off after couple seconds. Thanks for your reply in advance. Is this alright or is it reason to worry about?

Hi mate hope you can answer but I have the same car as was wondering if it’s normal for the engine light to be on while ignition on like it is with yours but goes off when engine started or is there a problem.
I'm in the US, have a 2008 650, I had to push the start button twice or none of this worked. Also don't have the switch on the stalk, or the little clock animation during reset. I just used the trip button for everything. Thanks for the video would have been clueless how to do this.
