Since you're playing Iron Teeth Skye, you do have access to a kind of vertical power shaft: rowhouses! Houses transmit power on all sides AND top and bottom as well, so you can just stack them. Also great for building factories on top, and it enables you to eliminate the need for most power shafts. And I love the platforms, I feel like verticality is kind of the Iron Teeth thing, having skyscraper-like structures and industrial cities and such.
I've been doing this for ages, I absolutely love the color scheme and windows it adds to things as well, I used them way too much in my previous playthroughs
Well instead of dying slowly from a bad water leak, they can go out with a bang. Skye looking out for his beavers. A quick painless death instead of cancer
Hey Skye, when you put the number cruncher up against the control towers at 21:28 you can see the control tower is sharing power with the number cruncher. That means you could always hook the power shafts into the control towers and use them as vertical power shafts to transmit power up to the floating platforms.
25:40 you should build one of the big metal platforms then cover it with single high platforms so you can run paths and power under the platforms and still build on top
I think adding the dynamite/badwater storage looks great as part of the skyline but you've ended up flattening the rest off too much especially adding storage under the plank and gear factories I'd argue that maybe the bad water needs to go along the back row of platforms to keep as part of the highest levels or that the metal factories needs raising up even further (maybe even alternate so not all 6 are level to eachother) to create a more gradual but distinct layering of building roofs but the wood workshops deifnately look taller than the buildings behind them With the rest of the layers going down each row those will work themselves out, but it's really important to use storages and platforms to really stagger the buildings on those top rows
At 33:08 you can keep the fencing if you connect the tank by adding path through the extra space behind the reinforced planks building Water tank entry Stairs Path>Stairs>Platform Builfing
An idea for power - you have a 1 tile high gap at the back of every platform - could you run power on wooden platforms directly underneath the metal platform? To save ground tiles, it could be on top of the existing paths that run from front to back. This will give you power into the back of whatever building is placed at the back of each level of platform.
Everything is looking really great, Skye! My one piece of advice: mirror the staircase up to the large badwater tank. Then move the path on the metal platform to directly behind your treated plank workshop. Should still leave some room for decor nearer to the large warehouse.
I'm only 13 minutes in so I'm sure this wont matter. But on the off chance it does, I'd suggest blasting pockets in for the base of the platforms so that the tops match the back terrace height. That would make getting power over much easier. As the terraces step down, keep the platforms the same height by terraforming in single tile wide columns for them to sit on. That will make laying out the industrial facilities on top much easier.
I think it could do with even more verticality. Like a proper multi-level factory complex with a maze of paths all throughout it. Definitely fits the iron teeth vibe.
Remember with the ladder mod: the beavers need to be able to reach each second ladder. So need to build 2 high platforms next to the ladders. Can delete after. But, being the beavers only moving vertically, it’s a hell of a lot more efficient than stairs.
David Attenborough narrates: "After some extra deliberation - and a suggestion of my own for safety added to the mix - the Iron Tooth Lake colony has begun work on the industrial sector atop the newly terraformed wing they've dubbed 'The Green Monster'. As this new sector of the village will be run exclusively by the robotic members of the colony, blending form with function is a must, and even I cannot fault them on that logic. Whatever your thoughts about these magnificent creatures, one thing they cannot be claimed to lack is clever ingenuity." Certainly a tricky undertaking here, Skye. That said, one suggestion I have is that if it's possible to build one of the metal platforms on top of a regular platform, then you could set up however many platforms you need on top of the mine's stairway to make the metal platform stand flush with its brethren. That would also give you a bit more room to play with.
if you want some verticality, when you get to the agricultural centre, stack up hydroponics as a either a central hub, or, a series of different height hydroponic stacks to add texture (like a city centre) with the food buildings around it/them
Sky with this faction you can pass power through the building themselves. Just connect a power shaft to the other side of the building. You can do that with multiple buildings. Even the living quarters can pass through power.
I've been watching you play this game for quite some time, and you've inspired me to buy this game and give it a go. You make this game look way easier than it is. lol
Add platforms under the lower terrace iron platforms, It would help you see underneath to those details as well as making more sense for iron teeth, they after all are pretty advanced and flat would be more efficient
Skye recreating the plate system from FF7... next he's gonna have the rich beavers live on the top plates and the poor beavers living in the slums below the plates..
Loved this build. Felt like it was in full flow. Was watching thinking things at the same time it felt like. For me, For that extra bit of height at the back, swap the medium storages for your storage system and build the buildings on top rather than roves. I'd then also build the towers up at the back in platforms to make it look like a radio mast. That might look very cool imo :)
Well, some buildings can have power coming from higher spots on the buildings. For example the food processing can have a platform above the doorway to have power coming out. Can help with the step downs
Probably a little late to say it now. But you could dynamite down one tile where the posts of the platforms are and your back row would be flush with the back row. Would let you avoid all the power and access troubles. 16:45
You're missing a smelter or two for the bot production in your list of everything that needs to be on the platforms. Also you could send the power up the center staircase on wooden platforms above the stairs instead of from the back and the future aqueduct. With leaving the bad water centered on its platform the weight is centered on the column, the beavers must have been worried about structural integrity. Also, you can place the fencing underneath the wooden platforms up to the bad water storage.
The badwater pumps are quite nearby, maybe you could also put them on a high platform and pump it up from higher up. This saves the beavers/bots quite the traveling distance to the explosives factories.
As you can build under the metal platforms .. for each layer down, you can feed power between each gap when it drops to lower levels. making it just a tad cleaner when it transitions down
Looking very cool! The bad water tank on top of the empty warehouse looks like a water tower. Try putting a tank on 2 or 3 empty (or not) warehouses with a spiral staircase.
When you start putting in the other buildings on platforms you should leave gaps and have like 1 or 2 districts so its not just one giant metal platform, youd see the green underneath along with the crops in between and you could have bridges going across it and the like
you can elevate the metal platform by itself, creating more contrast, maybe the elevated ones resemble importance, maybe monuments or a storage with roof or anything that comes to mind. to add: maybe use the second metal platform to descend even more, u can use explosives too; to be straight forward, play more with the highs and lows, starting from the foundation.
Skye, you can use housing to tranfer the power between hights. Just pause the housing so they don't use it. Its the nice way to tramfer power between hight without mods.
Connect a few of the platforms with bridges (especially over the mine crater!) so you can end up with a more symmetrical design. You could also use the 3 wide metal platforms smackbang in the middle of your industrial area with a path in the middle on those with room for decor and charging stations on the sides and have bridges to the bigger platforms
Since you put the large tank in for bad water, I think when you do the farming buildings and cool design would be having 2 or 4 hydroponic gardens with a larger water tank on top, if you rotated each building 90 degrees you could have a cool winding path way around them eventually leading the the water tank on top. It would look cool and be rather efficient as well with storage or the fermenters or food factory's near by
Using dynamite to lower the metal platforms at least at the upper part by one so it aligned with the back wall would have been cool and helped with ramps and power
I know it's something you haven't used yet, but are you planning to use the suspension Bridges? I'm wondering if you've thought about doing raised islands in the remaining map, and using bridges to connect large bodies of raised map? While the tiered section is being used for crops, maybe you could have these sort of, pillars of dirt where different trees are being grown for wood (or sap). with pathway around the entire edge meaning they can be linked with various lengths of bridges (so A to B uses a pair of 5x1's and B to C used 3x1's) while the rest of... whatever the bots aren't making, is laid out in the twisting gaps between these raised islands
maybe you can put a battery storage (lots of gravity batteries) in your industry...like in your last series, maybe a bit smaller. just in case there is a problem at the "HUMP" power plant. then you would have a fail safe and it would probably look cool
@Skye Storme - not sure if you have done this already but worth try out a small challenge: A colony of Robots only so its like after Humans Bevars made colony but even they died and only robots now rule the world. Would be nice fun to watch - may be a small one not too big map so efficiency take over
I was looking at mod to cover the mining hole. Maybe arches. I know you don't want to use mods unless there is no other alternative but these would maybe help put everything symmetrical for you centerpiece
For the next series you should build a huge stepped pyramid slap bang in the middle of the map with all the forests and farms on the terraces and the huge beaver statue right on the top.
12:28 you can have good balance with mods. Mods also can make a game harder (like adding more needs/penalties...). It is up to the player to decide, what they want.
Hmm, could have bought that central staircase to the platforms forward one square, then run high power shafts from the water channel up underneath/where the current stairs are.
Love how it is turning out. I think you should put a similar of the tall liquid storage on the one on the other side for grease. Your bots will appreciate it! 😁
I think you should have the tower citizens as their own separate district. It imports pine resin, wood, and badwater then exports bots and metal blocks. All industry and no squishy beavers.
Thanks for all the great content Idear for the "bad water poll concept sky talked about. Could you rise the sides up so it becomes a raised water feature of bad water, coming down over the sides of it?. Use some of the water feature designs sky didnt get to use in the big waterfall and you can still have pumps at the bottom. Would it work and would it look good ?
To the left on that empty platform near the top just below the first level that is empty at the end of the video. I wonder if small tanks would look appropriate like a grouping of six or so
