I recently went to a temporary samurai showing in a museum, the collection was from the Mueller couple from Dallas their collection is one of the biggest private collections. In the museum I had the chance to put on a hand made samurai armour specially made for guests to try on and it was so cool to wear it and it looked totally badass.
That place looks incredible! Too bad they do not have a section discussing the construction of purpose of the various armor pieces. It could be like a mini museum with a small token admission price. I suspect hat it would draw more people and once they know more about the armor, they will want to try them on.
Agreed. Like explaining how Shogo's first set armor that he wore was what was called an o-yoroi and was constructed of lots small plates laced together and had big shoulder armor (side?) to act as shields. Then in later periods the o-yoroi was replaced by different armors, as shown by the second suit Shiogo wor and the one that Kazu wor both times, that were less boxy and tended to have cuirassses made from far fewer plates, often just a breast and back plate.

tozandoshop.com/collections/yoroi-armor/yoroi+armor+kabuto+samurai+bushido My recommended company and website where you can buy the samurai armor! What’s great about their armor is that you can actually put it on yourself😎
@@AtomicEnder In early 2020 I went to Tozando in Kyoto where you could try on one of their sets of armour. It inspired me to make or buy pieces of armour until I had put together a suit of my own armour that I can use for either Samurai or Ashigaru impressions. Obviously I wear a cotton ski mask and a menpo to hide my european facial features when I wear the armour at public events.
I just came back from my first trip to Japan and Kyoto and was able to go to Kouzu with a friend! I chose the Honda Tadakatsu armor and my friend chose Takeda Shingen's. The details and attention to armors is absolutely insane. We loved being able to experience and see how you wear a real samurai armor piece after piece and how everything comes together! The staff was exceptionnally friendly and helpful, incredible people! Even if they don't speak English well, we were able to translate via Google in real time without any problem. They were shutting down the current place 2 days after we came and as I understand it they start a very ambitious new project in a bigger and better place! I hope to come back soon to see that! Thanks alot, Shogo, as you made me discover the place a few months ago!
My favorite are definitely Takeda Shingen and Date Masamune. Takeda Shingen armor is iconic because of his fur helmet. Takeda clan was my first to play in Shogun 2 Total war game. I like him from this moment. Date Masamune looks badass too. The black / dark blue armor with that "half moon" datemono looks very cool. I like that too.
The first time I played Shogun 2 I remember picking the Date clan as they were kinda isolated to the north so would be easier to learn the game with that clan due to the AI having difficulties flanking the Date clan through geographic perks of the clan. But having watched, read and researched more about the Samurai culture/history and more specifically the Sengoku Jidai, I must say that Date Masamune is a badass Daimyo/Samurai. If I ever go Japan, I'll definitely visit this place just to put on his armour.

I saw videos similar to this before, and I was so inspired I attempted to make the basic components of samurai armor out of cardboard 😂 (didn't have the means to purchase a real one) it wasn't perfect but people recognised what I was trying to be😁👍🏼 U really do feel powerful wearing it😂
This place and experience is so professional, talented and fun! I’m sure it costs a fortune, but so worth it I’m sure. Thank you for doing this for us 👏🏼👏🏼
Love it!!!! The manufacturer of that armor, Marutake, made the armor for the movies Ran and Heaven and Earth. They did a fabulous job; very realistic looking. I love that Momonari style kabuto you wore with the Oda Nobunaga armor. That style is growing on me instead of the traditional hari-bachi. Very nice video, I only wish it could have been twice as long for twice the fun!
Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin should have become allies, look at what Shingen did to Ieyasu as Mikatagahara, sadly Shingen was dying from most likely TB, modern medicines would have cured him, Shingen and Kenshin would meet each other 5 times at Kawanakajima in the space of 11 yrs, imagine if they had just had a couple of battles in the space of 3 yrs, that would have given Shingen a further 8 yrs, 8 yrs would have been plenty of time to take over the country..
I met a person who was directly related to Uesugi Kenshin and the family has their own museum. I would like to see their museum if possible. I also met someone who was related to Tokugawa family and they also have their own museum. My grandfather's family served Kaga han and lived with the former Maeda warlord in Tokyo over 110 years ago. I have seen a number of famous Japanese castles and many are very large.

Hello gentlemen, what a great way of spending an afternoon. The authentic samurai armor was beautiful and you guys looked great, very impressive in each set of armor you both put on. Sorry to say but you guys were regal samurai lords for a brief moment, but left as a pair of ordinary citizens again. Great video.
Awesome video Shogo, once the whole Covid situation is more controlled (and when Japan allow mexicans to enter your country again, of course) I'll be returning to Japan, and this place look really interesting for samurai and Japan's history fans. Saludos desde México!!!
I absolutely LOVED this video!! Now I really need to travel to Kyoto!! I got really dazzled as I watched you guys simply become these warlords! And you really became awesome!! Both of you changed completely into these powerful men! I admire lord Nobunaga, but Lord Shingen’s armour is really impressive! Sensei Shogo just seemed to “fit” in it! Yet, when I go to this place, I must try Lord Masamune’s armour!! The legendary crescent over the dark armour made such a mythical aura! This was really enthralling! I would like to thank you very much Sensei, for showing this on your channel! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Date Masamune's armour really looks awesome i think thats my favorite. I like Takeda Shingen's armour too its so majestic, I dont want to go to a battle on it. Thank you so much for sharing one of my bucket list when I go to Japan.
Watching the detail of the construction and how its put on, you can't help but marvel at the how the Japanese craftsmen can up with the design and details of how to create and construct such armor in such early times. The number of hours to construct everything with such detail and materials must have been awesome. I noticed the footwear and how tying the sandal to the foot was detailed to ensure that it stay on. Most people putting on shoes take it for granted on our footwear and how such designing something to protect one's foot for battle in natural terrain in all weather conditions is ignored. Mahalo for the video. Most impressive. I really have to credit the early warriors as, my first thought watching it, was how does one function during bathroom breaks. It must have been brutal for those samurai.
