My dust cap popper off when removing my crank. I put it around the spindle and whacked it with a rubber mallet. It cracked and about 1/3 of it is gone. I put it back on, and no creaking so far, but I submitted a warranty claim to SRAM through the dealer and they are sending me a new BB under warranty. My son has a press-fit SRAM BB, and had creaking, so I took off both dust caps, removed the seals, and packed in a bunch of grease. Both dust caps broke during re-installation, but the creaking is gone. If the BB is creaking, it's done. You can get a bit more life out of it by re-greasing, but you'll break the dust caps in the process. it's a dumb design. but, if the BB is done anyway, you really don't need the dust caps to protect anything, so, you can run the BB with broken dust caps and it works the same.
I've took mine apart then regreased the bearings and seems much better , so to finish iv cleaned the full Bottom bracket , and 2 blue o ring seals came out into the tissue but I can't find where they go , can you remember?
JB did you find a suitable replacement? I did the same thing and just see aftermarket kits. Everything is back together just wondering if it will make a noise or feeling when pedaling. Thank you for the video!
I don't remember seeing any blue o rings, I switched to Shimano when the bb started creaking again and put the sram setup on my sons bike. He rides with airpods anyway, a perfect match. :)
I upgraded my 9s Shimano crankset to a Sram Dub set. The Dub BB started creaking after 1500 km, a couple of wet and muddy ride as it is a gravel bike. I will try regreasing and see how it goes. In where I live, a Dub Bsa BB cost twice as Shimano BBR60 Ultegra BB. If the regrease attempt doesn't go well I will change to Shimano GRX crankset.
I replace dub bsa bearings all the time. 2 6806 bearings are much cheaper than a new unit. I use a Stanley blade to eek the dust cover off and then a bearing puller to remove the old one. The press fit dub are integrated into the cups so that’s a regressed or replace. I prefer the hope 30mm bb with the dub reducer kit.
difficult to find that shiit dust cover, easy to damage when you remove it.. the reason why i replaced sram with shimano which is very easy to service and replace bearings...
I found this video after doing mine and also breaking the same part at 2:11 using the same method. Wanted to see if anyone has a better way of popping them back in lol
I 've been riding it "broken" for 2 years, it made it a lot easier to service the bearings and the grease is clean when I pop off the dust seals. I use a grease from Shell that is designed for ocean going sea planes. I suppose there is a couple watt loss from the heavier grease but it does a good job keeping everything out.
the 2 bearings were damaged ... I need replacement pair ?? SRAM DUB Bottom Bracket English Threaded 68 - 73mm Do you have the information on the measurements of the bearings or the reference?
Sorry I didn't measure them when it was apart. I don't like the system at all, it is assembled in a way to make user support difficult and breakage very easy. Cost wise I guess it's considered disposable. My taking it apart was an ill fated hope of stopping the creaking which has only gotten worse.
I upgraded my 23 year old Cannondale to BOX 2. I ride twice a year. It should be maintenance free forever now if I only ride 5-10 miles a year on that bike.
Do you mean the dust seal on the cartridge bearings? GCN has a video on cleaning and greasing sealed bearings. th-cam.com/video/nxBWBT2lmR8/w-d-xo.html

Yeah SRAM components seem as serviceable as a bic lighter.
Bro ur a life saver
Thanks, just the info I needed 👌🙏

maybe the blue o ring turn to black already.
Are those bearings standard and can be purchased from any bearing store? Assuming you can even remove them from BB?

I think removing the bearings would be very difficult. It is hard enough to grease the bearings without breaking the cheap plastic parts.

try using plastic card like regular ATM card opem it at the top
I’m off to look for After market rebuild able ones, surely Hope / Phil / Paul etc have better versions

I recently measured the bearings on my dub bb and they are not a standard size.
@@nicholasalary8495 that sucks.

There is a way in which the plastic is not damaged ?
to be more careful than I was. I hurried when I was making the video. SRAM tried to make it difficult so you would always replace the whole assemble.
@@JohnBooth what a sram, the easiest solution should be to change
@@JohnBooth th-cam.com/users/shortsnViKrkjyxjQ
That's what it sounds like to me, I think it will have to be replaced.
Are the cups reusable? (Swapping out the bearing cartridge)
They should be. The inner sleeve is plastic was brittle so be careful.
@@JohnBoothI see aluminum aftermarket BB's. Lil pricey but hopefully easier to service.
@@mikeburgh3956 I bought a new BB and moved the whole setup on my 2000 Cannondale I ride twice a year. I've only been road riding so far this year.
Is this possible with the bb in the bike?
No you need the cup out to remove the plastic shim/flange.
BB removal tool is cheap mate and you'll need one to tighten it up anyway after a few months.
La même chose que moi ça a casser

no no no. don’t ever take seal off the bearings. if you see one that does that then you se a non mechanic.
