    Dr. Axe refers to Vetiver oil, Rosemary oil, Cedarwood oil, and Lavender oil. These are essential oils that help calm the nervous system and the brain to focus. He suggests mixing 2 drops of each oil and rubbing them on the back of the neck and temples.
    Hint make sure you use a carrier oil (like olive oil, jojoba oil or coconut oil to name a few) when mixing the essential oils otherwise it can smart and burn.
    He suggests to use a diffuser. Brilliant. 🧸

      Has has a doctorate which gives him the title doctor(Dr.) But he isn't a physician or Medical doctor. He is a nutritionist and was/is a chiropractor. Also, ADHD is a spectrum disorder. Some people with ADHD are highly functioning and some are not.

      It’s like having a phd in geography and calling yourself Dr and start giving medical advice.

      i totally agree with that & i don't wanna be lumped in with people who force their kids on ADHD prescriptions but sadly when your uneducated & going through have complex family issues, you fall into the health system (not saying it's right). In saying that though a lot of the holistic approach is buried depending where you live in Australia & the internet! But its been 7yrs of various health journey for my family & probably still have more to learn but have gotten onto a fair few supplements that have changed all our lives!

    Interestingly the French don’t treat ADHD as neurological but social. However I am 100% in support of nutrition to treat with every issue in life! Your health is in your gut!

    Have been diagnosed with ADHD since age five. Started on Concerta at age 56. On keto|intermittent fasting and watching my diet carefully (to push type 2 diabetes into remission). A noticeable side effect has been the reduction in my ADHD meds.

    bacopa, fish oil, pro-biotics, vitamin B complex including B12, protein powder from bone broth, essential oils like vetiver for better focus... rosemary oil and cedar wood and lavender oil... all calming or memory boosting. mix all these oils in a diffuser or apply on body... coconut is good for concentration and hormone balancing, exercise

    “Back in the day,” we fed our infants breastmilk [only] and at 6 months added foods ONE at a time to see if the baby was allergic to them. A single vegetable for about 5 days, then another vegetable for about 5 days. After vegetables, the we introduced fruits one at a time. Grains came after fruit…first rice, then barley or oats. Wheat, meat, and dairy wasn’t introduced until the child was about one year and possibly starting to wean from breastfeeding. It was very apparent if the baby was allergic to a specific food. They would have stomach aches and their bowel movements were not normal. Moms that cheated the process and introduced, for example, rice cereal into formula to make the baby sleep longer I believe probably paid the price later.

      Unfortunately the food that is available now is genetically modified and has so many chemicals in the growing and storing process, it barely resembles the food we ate 50 years ago.

    As a child I struggled in school, social interactions, etc. It wasn't until I was an adult and decided I had suffered enough that I went to a doctor and told them I couldn't focus. Finally after being diagnosed with ADHD I was given psychotherapy and medication which has changed my life! Without my medication I couldn't implement the many tools given by my therapist or even the material I had studied in psychology at university. Sometimes medication is necessary. However, I do agree that a healthy diet, exercise and in my case therapy can be extremely beneficial.

    The things that help me the most manage my adult ADHD are number one managing sleep I will not have coffee after 9:00 in the morning any day now because it disrupts my sleep cycle number two we have to keep the intestines free flowing so there has to be some type of fiber to help move the food through the gut because when my gut gets clogged up I feel sluggish and unmotivated and ADHD symptoms are quite severe number three vitamin D3 in the winter time when we're lacking sunshine if we're any northern state I find to be very beneficial for winter time ADHD. Number four normalizing a sleep schedule is critical I shoot for 10:00 every night and I have traditionally been a night owl throughout my life but once I normalize my sleep my career took off. 5. Waking up at a set time and exercise first thing 6. Routine fasting, either IF or at least a 3-5 day fast at minimum once per quarter, but ideally once per month

    I really enjoy your helpful videos. I have 3 adult kids that were diagnosed with ADHD as children. My 2 girls took and currently take Adderall and Concerta. They also both have Hashimotos's thyroiditis. One daughter recently developed allergic reactions that sent her to the emergency room twice. After allergy testing, she went gluten-free and corn-free. Her latest blood work showed no evidence of anti-thyroid antibodies and her liver enzymes were normal.

      Sounds like they could use some zeolite. That they have too much heavy metals in thir bodies. Zeolite is a game changer

    I had blatant symptoms of adhd my whole life. But several years ago I came down with labyrinthitis and since then I’ve lost the ability to read books - it made my adhd symptoms worse. I wish I could find a fix for that as I miss reading massively! I can cope with short articles but just can’t stay focussed long enough to read more than that.

    Thanks Josh, there's a lot of very helpful information in your video. There's not much info available on natural remedies for ADHD. I can't believe how many parents are quite willing to medicate their young children with very strong drugs.

    Thank you for this great information. We are definitely going to try this. We have done gluten free and red dye free for years but need to really do more. The hardest part is the social culture, we already have a hard time with her diet and it’s not that restricted yet. They have sooo many parties at school filled with sugar and junk. But it’s worth it to keep her off meds. She’s 7 year old.

    If you felt like a zombie the first week of your medication, your dosage wasn't right. You needed to consult your doctor and adjust. Your advice is very helpful and I will be taking them, but I'm also not quitting my meds.

I am from India.. a mother of 9 yrs old adhd boy... u can easily understand the struggle of being a mother to an adhd child... many people told me to get my child on medication Luke non stimulants but I always refused... was in search of such kind of information u hv given through ur vdo.. m grateful to u sharing it... in India the most eaten food with organic vegetables is wheat chapati.. should I eliminate it from his diet though it's bit difficult as we all Indians are used to having it at least twice or thrice a day.. plz help me out!

    This is very helpful. I have adhd and found its linked to trauma and bad diet. I Was prescribed aderrall it destroyed my life and health so bad. Never give your kids that poison or take it yourself.

    Long story short- Go on an elimination diet. You'll have to look online further but basically you cut most food out and just eat foods that are very unlikely to cause allergies in people. Slowly add foods back in to see if anything causes a reaction.
    Supplements bacopa, omega 3s, and probiotics.
    I found going on keto diet(low carb) and starting to excercise in the morning helped me a lot to where I dont need my meds. My blood sugar stays steady instead of spiking and dropping which made me hungry and tired all the time.

    I have ADD, and lavender helps my mind quiet down enough to sleep, and peppermint helps me focus. So does sweet orange.

      You don’t have to put your child on medication! I have gotten off of all my medications. I have helped friends get there children off of medications as well. There is hope! Would love to share some of the things you can do to help! So many of the things he is talking about we use!

      Absolutely not true! Natural supplementation has been found to work just as well as meditation! I am add and I am telling you they absolutely work! I wouldn’t ever push people to put anyone on chemically altering medications. I won’t sit here and arguing with someone who is not open minded. It will be pointless. But I wish you would open up and do some research ❤️

    Just to clarify, xylitol and sorbitol are not artificial sweeteners. They occur naturally in fruits and veggies. That being said, consuming processed forms of them in high dosages is not wise. I'm only clarifying this b/c I recently found that my Kirkland farm fish oils have sorbitol in them, but only trace amounts on the outer coating.

    Thanks so much. My granddaughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD and my daughter reluctantly had her Dr. prescribe medication. She has extreme memory problems and is really struggling with Math. It is so difficult to control their diets when children are in school. She will discontinue her medication during summer vacation. Your information is so helpful. You asked about essential oils, I work with pregnant and breastfeeding mums and their newborn babies so always use lavender oil on my wrists and shoulders as a way to project some calm into what can sometimes feel like a stressful situation for Mums.

    Dr. Axe is always spot on and when it comes to diet and overall well being, I take his word as gospel. He has helped me through a kidney cleanse, and has helped me improve my overall lung health. Now I am taking on a much more challenging task in addressing my child's ADD/ADHD. Thanks for everything Dr. Axe!

    I feel so bad for my son. I hate that he has to take medication I tried taking him off the pills but his grades really suffered. His teachers have always struggled with him. I'll try to implement this over the summer and see if this works. I asked his psychiatrist if there was a natural way to handle ADHD and he told me there was not. That only medication would help.

      Deserie Drew Thier full of crap Change his diet.No wheat , sugar ..ceraels etc.No fruit juices.My twin grandsons were borh with ADHD...since birth they were on a very strict diet.Lota of pure clean water , no fruit juices.So Organic foods., fruits , fish , and organic bars for snack.

      Deserie Drew. I am older with bad ADHD that affected my life. In school, it made me look real stupid one term and a genius the next (as long as I liked the material). My mom was terrible for not putting me on medication, and I was hyperactive in school, never had friends and never reached my potential. Never was able to hold jobs long. But your son could try Green Teas. The Lipton Green Teas taste pretty good and they help me concentrate. Good Luck to your son!

      Deserie Drew with my son cutting out video games and wayyyyy back on tv time, implementing epa/dha cutting way back on sugars and giving him Charlottes Web drops has changed our life.

    It really does work! It works so well along with vitimins. I am so glad I found out about essential oils. It got my 37 lb 4 year old grandson off of a pill and a half a day of
    clonidine. He was never tested just put on medicine just because the dr thought he was to hyper in the exam room. So thankful I discovered oils!!!

      Meg Murphy in using oils you have to be consistent. I will send you the info later today or tomorrow. Staying away from dyes in food helps. Yellow and red for us is the worst.

    Did not like it
    And then my doctor switched to Lexapro for more anxiety but I truly believe that I don’t need it.
    I heard you can’t really miss a day or bad side effects will happen…

    With all due respect Dr Axe - you haven’t addressed the high costs associated with thez natural solutions X a family. I’ve been attempting to live a life with MS without medication. Am fresh raw foods oriented; my supplement costs are becoming unaffordable as retirement income getz eaten as cost of living and gentrification run rampant.
    I practice what you preach but we need to adjust with the the economic down turn. Thank you-

      Make your own sauerkraut and other fermented veggies for a probiotic. Eat sardines or salmon regularly (no mercury). I have the same concerns with our big family and trying to supplement everybody.

    I agree with others to make sure that when using essential oils to delute them with a carrier oil instead of putting essential oil on direct. Some oils direct with cause irritations or burns especially if the person is already sensative, or dealing with skin issues. Most important with infants & children there are many essential oils that are dangerous to them in different steps of their aging. Highly recommend parents research that well before using anything on their children. Elderly too will be very sensative. Certain carrier oils will also be beneficial to what your purpose to the cause is for. There are "essential oil delution charts by the ages" online, they do have ones that are infant through elderly. Plus, look for an "essential oil delution chart" with the carrier oils. There are many medical website to see which essential oils will effect your medications. Look at several some have more information then others. Many aromatherapist recommend that essential oils should not be taking internally. Just be safe, essential oils and herbs too are just as stong if not stronger then many medications. There are "dosage charts" too available online. Be safe, always do your research and do what is best for you. Thank you Josh for all your teachings! This video is very helpful. I will be sharing with others.

    my daughter was recently diagnosed at only 5 I don't want to medicate her as there so many bad side affects so looking for alternatives, before watching this I'd just ordered omega oil supplements and essential oil and diffuser as I've had good results using lavender oil at bed time, my daughter is also doing gymnastics twice a week plus multi sports plus lots of outdoor time at home on the trampoline and in the pool, really great to get some other ideas to implement thanks

      I'm really happy and excited for your son. And, I just bought me some vetiver. Just heard that you need a "carrier" oil?!!? Do I need a carrier oil?!!? And, if so, how do I use the two together?!!? Do you mix the two together and then just apply the liquid behind the ears or something like that?!!? Have never even used it yet. Just really confused about how I would use it. I have severe ADHD!! Thanks!!!

    I'm sure that certain people are still predisposed to have ADHD that isn't caused by environmental issues. I'm under the impression that the increase in ADHD it is in large part due to nutrition, culture, and technology. I also don't believe ADHD is a disorder, I just think it becomes an issue when the ADHD is getting to the point where you aren't functioning in life properly. So, if you're really trying to avoid medication and find a good fix to an ADHD problem these are the things I am nearly certain will help.
    #1. Meditation - I believe this is the best place to start based on personal experience, and especially if your child is low in trait Conscientiousness. If your child seems unmotivated and their attention is too scattered to properly organize and get started on their daily activities, meditation will be a great aid. It helps quiet the mind that is normally moving at a thousand miles per hour and makes you more present and in control of your actions. Also, ADHD individuals are more predisposed to developing low serotonin issues which is believed to be the root of depression. When a child is having trouble getting started on tasks and staying focus it usually leads to procrastination in nearly every area of their life, which is constantly putting them into high-stress modes in which most of their serotonin is used up. Meditation will aid in more control over the body and not getting caught in the aloof state that your thoughts can put you in. Not to mention the science on meditation only showing more and more positive benefits from practicing regularly. I'd look up brain MRI studies with meditation.
    #2 Technology - I believe this is the biggest cause for immobilizing ADHD children and adults. Tech companies design their applications to essentially hijack the brains reward system and offer rewards we are used to getting from hard work and patience and giving it to us in an instant. A cell phone equipped with Instagram, youtube, and Facebook is crack for a person with ADHD. Being already dopamine deficient, we are able to get our fix from constantly engaging in these addictive practices and the what can make this drug (technology) even worse than dopaminergic drug addictions is the fact that they are becoming addicted to their own narcissism. Which will lead to a host of new issues. So, get that phone out of your kid's hands.
    #3 Nutrition & Exercise - I'd say the information this video provided is sufficient if you want to avoid any foods that will cause ADHD negatives to polarize. I've heard of people having success with a Keto Diet. Exercise is extremely helpful for those with ADHD. It especially necessary in children. A lot of the hyperactive symptoms of ADHD have been linked to socialization issues in early childhood. Get your kids around other kids, and if they are boys, encourage safe rough and tough play. It is how they learn what is okay and what goes too far. As well as getting rid of their excess energy that drives everyone insane. Not unlike a puppy being locked in a cage all day. A study has shown that when male rats are not engaging in rough and tumble play properly, they develop ADHD symptoms that can be treated with Ritalin.
    I currently take Vyvanse, and have great effects from it and cannot deny that it has definitely improved my ability to function in life. But the negatives that come with it are sometimes difficult to manage and the effectiveness certainly wears off over time. That is why I have gone on to seek other remedies. I've found the most success treating these issues. One last thing I would mention is looking into the studies of ADHD rates in Amish societies because I believe there is a lot to be said about it. They test lowest out of any other group in the US in ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety.
    Some interesting reasons for this may be the fact that
    #1 - They are engaging constantly in meditative activities
    #2 - Technology is absent forcing them to properly engage their friends and environment and seek long-term rewards
    #3 - Organic and healthy diet, no trans fats and to my knowledge I don't believe they used refined sugars.
    #4 - Most daily activities require substantial physical activity throughout the day
    #5 - Culture and Environment. It is reported that in Amish societies, when a child has trouble focusing in a classroom setting and their attention is impossible to hold on to, THEY TELL THEM TO GO PLAY OUTSIDE. THEY DON'T FORCE THEM TO COMPLY AND MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE there IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM. THEY GO ONTO TO DEVELOPING FULLY IN THEIR OWN INTERESTS AND BECOME VERY PRODUCTIVE, CREATIVE, AND NECESSARY MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. KIDS WITH ADHD ARE NOT STUPID - THEY ARE NOT CARED FOR PROPERLY.

      You do realise that ADHD is a medically proven ailment which is recognisable in the brain's chemistry?
      You do realise that you "not believeing ADHD is a disorder" is heavily damning to peoples' perspective of ADHD?
      You do realise ADHD is not just hyperactive kids?
      I appreciate your attempt to put time and love into the care of your child, but do not see this as a springboard into lecturing people here on how it's "not really an issue" should you simply 'let them go outside' and meditate. ADHD in adults turns into a very, very difficult issue of inattentiveness, frustration, and lack of focus which people don't just grow out of. The world we live in isn't built to simply 'let us go outside', and in any case that's not what we want to do.
      We want to focus.
      We can't.
      We want to want to do the work, but we're at the mercy of our own 10,000 subjects of interest which we have no control over the priority of.
      We get what we CAN done, but in no order of importance and without the ability to see anything through.
      Please be very careful when posting onto a forum regarding ADHD and using phrasing such as " I also don't believe ADHD is a disorder", because people who are also backwards in their education regarding ADHD will allow this to swing their bias and more, and countless more people suffering with ADHD will have to endure medical practioners and people around them rolling their eyes and telling us to just "stop being lazy" or "get on with it."
      Keep your love for your child, keep your enthusiasm. However, do not damn those with ADHD because your child is responding well to your methods. I'm glad it's working for your child, but that does not make it appropriate to dismiss peoples' struggles outwith your own personal understanding of your beloved child.

Getting more rest, better nutrition, fresh air, sunshine, and exercise can improve your overall mental, emotional, and physical health along with prayer and self-discipline. But still distracted in the mind. I try to create new healthier, organized thought patterns and behaviors but still struggling. I pray we get healed of this. It's not normal.       As it appears nicotine, caffeine, alcohol and other environmental noxa can lead to ADHD when the mother gets exposed to it during pregnancy....and there are measurable differences in adhd People compared to healthy individuals...check those mri studies.

    What are your thoughts on PINE BARK "pycnogenol " .....I found that they use this in France for ADHAD ......I also think exersice /sports is also very important, plus 8 to 12 bottles of alkaline water a day.....I personally like Fiji Water.... It also has magnesium in it.....
    I also think pollution and human hygiene products have a big effect on our health also ....
    So a good idea is limit your body to theses things ....
    1. Water purification system on your home...
    2. Air purification in your bedrooms so you can breathe clean fresh air while you sleep....
    Just think they're 600 million cars on the roads today world wide ......
    And always keep this in mind ...your body can go 4 days without water and 3 weeks without food .... So intermittent fasting is very important.....
    And keep routers away from you and turn off all personal electronics when you go to sleep you don't need them......

    The fact that he would suggest "journaling food and paying attention to the symptoms of the food" or " make an appointment" tells me he either doesnt have ADHD or at best a limited grasp on the struggles of people with medium to severe ADHD. Ive need to "make an appointment" with a dentist for 3 weeks now... ive "started a journal" many times and never made it past the first 4 days... 12:23

    Ezekiel bread has gluten... so.... I loved their bread but they need to switch to ancient grain wheat that is not double chromosome and take out soy... with a bible verse of grains listed... notta once did it include soy!

    my add medicine always upsets my stomach. I’ve talked to my doctor and she said it’s because I don’t have a big breakfast. I had homemade Pancakes this morning and my stomach still hurt. I also had a panic attack today. Someone PLEASE help me I’m desperate.

    Instead of a 20 minute video, you could’ve done a five minute video. I just told them what to eat instead of what not to eat because after all all the ingredients you listed, the only thing leftover would probably be lean meats, vegetables, and fruit.

    this is great info thanks. 34 and got my diagnosis this year. been on ritalin a few months. i do feel its helped and that meds have their place, but certainly in a more flexible way in times of need. this info will certainly add to a holistic approach, thanks!     If you want actual advice on ADHD just stop watching this. As soon as he says he's been diagnosed every year with both add and ADHD you should have backed out as anybody that has ADHD knows you don't get rediagnosed, you have a brain condition, not a cold or a broken arm that just flat heals over time. Your conditions tone down as you age purely due to gaining more control over the brain's triggers and can be more controlled in certain conditions, but not just magically gone by not eating sugar and putting oil on your neck. Medication is not addictive I've been on and off meds for 10 years pure based on what I've needed to do. I can do classes and school work without them, but not well, however in an office, I can fiddle and have my own space I don't need them so I have stopped. Something that does help slow the brain activity: reduced sugars like mentioned and snacks. Fatty and protein snacks as they process slower and stimulate brain receptors. String cheese and nuts, apple slices and jerky, oranges and full-fat yogurt. I have a small snack every hour or so as attention is needed. Don't be afraid of meds, actually be tested, and don't be this guy and make a video 2 years before this sounding like an idiot in both giving basic diet advice.

      Golden Retriever combined with a healthy lifestyle most adhd drugs are completely save, however they don't all go well with other medications. Most people overestimate the side effects. It is much helthier for example to take ritalin than to selfmedicate with caffeine which has the same effect (600mg caffeine =20mg ritalin). However there are adhd med with heavy side effects out there and some of them are even personality altering, but that does not mean that meds are entirely bad, because they usually help to keep ones life together.

      Bryant Durfee Incorrect. I have to disagree. I've been rediagnosed every year until I was 20. Each year you should get reexamined to see if your symptoms get worse or subside. So if he says he was diagnosed every year then he went about it the right way. Unlike someone who gets diagnosed, take medication for life. Don't get offended, try it out. You'd be surprised. I'm cured.

      CBD oil really helped me. And, just a small amount of THC (.3%, I think). Anyways, it’s called Full Spectrum CBD oil. I get mine from Mary’s Nutritional’s (or something like that). Or, from Lazarus Natural’s (and they give a really nice discount for their products if you are low income, disabled, or a veteran, which I think is awesome).

    brushing my teeth with silvadora presica before sleeping helped me
    with my add i believe...
    sage leaves tea helped me but i drink like 2 to 3 glasses a day for a month now it really helped
    yogurt was helpful...
    i also belive high oxygen intake such as exercise before sunrise by an hour due to high oxygen present and good sleep pattern of early sleep early wake up and drinking alot of good mineral water would help

    Dr Axe, very informative. One thing that would be great is to pick some packages from stores with ingredient and translate on a lower level what some of the ingredients typically to stay away from because some times the ingredients have words that I can not even pronounce and I am an English speaking from birth. Because just to say stay away from it if you don't know what it means, I have to say is just about every label in the supermarket. Which means don't eat. However, this is a necessity in life. Also, going to a organic store is not the answer either because I still find miss leading information. In sum, I guess what I am saying it there is so much miss leading information on any label of the food that are bought whether from a so claimed organic store to your local Walmart. How do you distinguish?

    Hello, dr. Josh Axe. I need your opinion. Dr. Mark Hyman says ADHD isn't a psychiatric diagnosis. Does it means that epilepsy isn't a psychiatric disorder too? Because I know that my ADHD is a result of my epilepsy. Or it is rather my ADHD is not a usual ADHD form ?

    This has revealed to me another problem; food alternative poverty areas (a regional deficiency in choice of foods to avoid unwanted chemicals). There just isn't the local logistical framework in many areas, requiring long-haul delivery for those needing to cut out those harmful chemicals. And with one particular food, I would really like to increase my kids' fish intake without increasing mercury and micro-plastics within the body; How does one do that when it's in all fish?

      Bkek fish, i am autustic adhd super selective with foods. A quality omega 3 gel capsules taken daily logically will have more benefit as not likeky we can eat enough fish to get the amount of omega 3 as with supplement. Quality is key ive used "Nordic Naturals" brand for years. They test all throughout making product , dont see that with ithers. I get mine via Amazon, less $ then vitamin shoppe. 1/3rd if our brain is omega 3. Clunically proven to help adhd.😁🙃

    is this safe to use around small pets as well?
    Also if i empty without cleaning the defuser, can I add more oils, or would that not be a good idea. or would that be like adding more oil on=top of the oils i already used? Also after i clean with vingear, do i just rinse with water?
