His work with that instrument inspired him to push further and invent the musical synthesizer in the 1960's.

+thiruvetti I'm not sure about the bee sound but it was used in the opening credits to Star Trek: The Original Series.
Thanks for the comments and the hints about the usage of the instrument. Will look for them :-)
I remember watching a disney or a looney toon cartoon about an episode with a bee, and the music used for the bee (the sound it made when it was happy or sad, etc) was exactly the same. When I listen to his video, I could feel the bee speaking ;-)
it makes me cry
Oh it's not that bad really.
What a unique sound, Played by a virtuoso, The number of things that have had to come together to create this, A beutiful composition, Leon therenim creating the the instrument and clara rockmores dedication to the instrument, She somehow has the control of your emotions in this peice, just how the composer intended.
Gorgeous performance.
For me the theremin when played with this skill is one of the most beautiful sounds ever.
It is like violin/viola/cello meet soprano.
I remember hearing about this instrument before. They use it to make those spooky tunes in old movies and cartoon. Thanks to Google for reminding me about it and its creator!
