    Just a tip. Don't print from an RGB file. RGB is Screen colors, whilst CMYK is Print color. Go to Image > Mode > CMYK color to convert your file. Whilst in CMYK mode, you can work from the CMYK palette to get the colors much closer in print.

      Baard Østergaard An excellent tip.

      You also might have to tweak your colors a little as switching to CMYK can change the color data.

    I know a graphic designer who swears by illustrator but I don’t have it so I use Photoshop.
    Basically any image manipulation application that uses layers can be used to reproduce artwork like this.
    As you say, Dave, it’s best to practice as much as possible.

    Love your website and channel, it has led me on many restoration missions I would have been afraid to try otherwise. What’s better matte or gloss paper for replacement vintage decals ?

      Thanks. The paper choice depends on how you want the final stickers to look and what toy you are working on. Cheers

    How would you fix a sticker that has lost its stickiness? I was thinking super glue or rubber cement glue? Whats your thoughts? Thank you so much for your time.

    I've got some stickers and was wondering if you could help me recreate them. I've got a scan of them I can send you if you'd like.

    Do you need a pigment printer to print on glossy paper? Did you use a vinyl cutter?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use an inkjet printer and cut them out by hand.

      I use a canon PIXMA inkjet printer. It's old, but works fine.

    Great video. Never used PS before so this was really interesting to watch. I need to get PS on my PC but can't justify the subscription just yet. Are there and good free alternatives? I've heard of GIMP but wasn't sure if that was any good.

    • @toypolloi

      I've not used Gimp either. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you.

    Would be easier to use the Path tool rather than the lasso/selection tool as you can create the path and use bezier curves then tweak as desired.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KillerTonk On something this small I find a quick lasso works fine. If it was bigger then a path is better.

    Very good. I do however think Adobe illustrator would be easier to use for this because of the trace tool. However you do a cracking job with your restorations so that's irrelevant.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends what you are used to and what you currently own. I use photoshop everyday, so for me it is my go to. I don't use illustrator and don't have it. Use whatever you feel comfortable with.

    • @SharpblueCreative
      @SharpblueCreative 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toy Polloi this is true. As a designer I use both daily. As stated your restorations are awesome. I have a few to do as well. Any hints on a Dinky Shado mobile unit?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Finding the tracks for the Shado could be hard. But you may find a lego alternative. Like I did on the Micronauts Microtron I just fixed.

      Toy Polloi oddly enough I've had this model for sometime and managed to purchase tracks and rubber bullet from the same guy I purchased die cast parts for a couple of Eagle transporters I restored. It's more the removal of the wheels for dipping and reprinting I'm not sure about.

    I wish I had skills.

    • @kjamison5951
      @kjamison5951 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheNightBadger skills come with practice. Don’t try complicated things first, learn the basics and build on those.
      While Photoshop is a very powerful industry standard application and costs a lot of money, there are free and low cost alternatives.
      Most of the operations I do in Photoshop revolve around cutting, copying and pasting.
      It’s useful to have a ruler handy when you start so you know what size the final image will be.
      Most printers operate at 300 dpi (dots per inch) and setting your image to 300 dpi is important.
      Measure your label or box or whatever and make a sketch on paper what it should look like if you took it apart.
      You could practice by taking apart empty boxes for cookies or potato chips. When flattened out, this forms the ‘net’. Use your ruler to work out the dimensions and you will end up with a total height and a total width. For folding edges, add an extra millimetre or two depending on the thickness of the card you use.
      Check out videos on cardboard box making.
